About the property

Mountain cottage Magallotes ideal for hikers, birdwatchers and nature lovers.

We would like to share our unique place, a cottage integrated in Nature surrounded by a forest in the proximity of El Teide National Park but only 15 minutes away from the beach. You will have access to the whole property included in a 17.000 m2 land. It has it all, tranquility, peace and access to northern Tenerife. Our home is ideal for hiking, birdwatching and stargazing and made for those who love traveling experiencing the real thing but like to stay away from crowded touristic areas.

Our Tenerife cottage, traditional Canary Islands style home, is integrated in a forest of pine trees within a 17.000 m2 property, right at the limits of El Teide National Park. It´s a 2 bedroom with 2 complete independent bathrooms one in each bedroom. Main bedroom has a queen bed, a double sofa bed and full bathroom. Next to the main house building a second bedroom with 2 single beds and another full bathroom. There is a big kitchen-dinning room (best part of the house :)) with barbecue and a porch with a confortable sofa excellent for reading or just sitting watching the views of our beautiful forest.

There are many trails for hiking around our house that will take you all over the CORONA FORESTAL, from Arenas Negras Recreational Area to Los Realejos. It´s a fantastic opportunity to discover nature, bird watching, hiking, mountain biking and enjoy spectacular views, yet we are only 15 minutes away from the city of Icod.

To get to our house you will need to rent a car. Any car can make it there (depending on the load) although we recommend to rent a diesel engine car or medium size car to drive to our house and around Tenerife. A small car with 4 adults and 4 big suitcases will have difficulty to make it up as few turns are a bit steep.

Recommended visits:

1. Cueva del Viento. This Long Volcano tube (70km) is near our house and guided tours are provided in various languages. Please for more info check their web site and make sure you make reservations ahead of time.

2. Beach San Marco, only 10 minutes away.

3. Garachico, about 20 minutes away, beautiful old downtown and natural sea pools. Excellent pizza at Bacco restaurant :)

4. Don´t miss visiting Volcano of El Teide and its surrounding, Las Cañadas. There is a cable car that will take you from the base to 3.555 meters. If you feel like climbing the last 200 meters make sure you get a permit at "reservasparquesnacionales", click on the option language. Again, make sure you plan ahead of time and make reservation through their web page, only very few people are allow to climb up those 200 meters every day, small groups of 8 to 10 people.

5. Loro Parque, dolphins, killer whales, seals shows, alligators, tigers, gorillas and impressive Pinguin and sharks aquarius. It will take a whole day and excellent for kids.

6. Masca. Excellent views and breathtaking road. About 40 minutes from our house.

7. Taganana. Part of Montes de Anaga in the other side of the island, certainly worth the drive. About 50 minutes from our house.

8. La Laguna old downtown, excellent for a walk with the family, La Laguna Cathedral and La Concepción Church, and in between small stores and cafeterías. Excellent for coffee and a snack.

Some other information:

Mini market, 2 km away.

Supermarket, 15 minutes away.

Closest restaurant, 5 minutes.

Downtown, about 15 minutes away.

Nearest hospital, 15 minutes away.

About Sergio

I´m an engineer married to a great women Yani and we have two wonderful kids. We love having people from all over the world come and stay in our beautiful and charming cottage. Magallotes has been a labor of love and the realization of a dream for us, unique and magical place and a "get away from it all".

Sergio purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Sergio chose Icod de los Vinos

When my wife Yani and I arrived at this home the first time we felt in love with it. Even though we had a lot of work ahead to really give the touch we wanted, our enthusiasm put us through this project that turned into what is now our beautiful charming cottage. The views, the forrest around it, fruit trees, and trails bring us deep into nature the moment you walk out of the car.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is a wonderful retreat! The area feels quite remote, and very peaceful. Hiking trails are all around the house. The village of Icod was a short drive, perfect to pick up groceries or enjoy an afternoon barraquito. There are attractions to discover relatively close: Cueva del Viento (Lava Tubes) and the cable car to the top of El Tiede. So many things to do. The home itself is beautifully furnished and decorated. It had every amenity we might need. The large kitchen is perfect as a family gathering room.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Others have said many very good things about this cottage and I can confirm that it is all true. We stayed in the house with 2 persons for 9 nights and had a wonderful time. Our visit was in March 2015. I met Sergio at a restaurant in the nearest village. The directions he gave me were easy to follow. The house itself is very remote in the mountains, at about 900 meters above sea level. You can only reach it by car and it is hard to find, but Sergio will lead the way as you arrive. The ride uphill to the house is a steep pathway and quite exciting, but our Seat Ibiza made it, even in the hard rain that we once had. To reach a restaurant or supermarket you will have to drive about 10-15 minutes. The house is very well equipped with everything you need: kitchenware, gas stove, TV (which we never used), heating (which we were glad to have), internet connection (which works really well even though you are deep in the woods), fireplace, comfortable furniture, towels etc. Everything is in very good condtion. The main house has a bedroom for two, a kitchen and a livingroom that has a nice view towards the forest. There is also a seperate smaller house next to the main building which will have space for 2 more people. Sergio is a very friendy and helpful host. He gave me a thorough explanation on how to use heating, WLAN, fish-feeding duties etc. He will gladly give all kinds of recommendations on sights, restaurants and activities on Tenerife. Sergio will usually reply to any question you have within a couple of minutes. If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere and a good base for your trips across the island, I'm sure you will enjoy your time on Tenerife in Sergios house as much as we did.

Lovely cottage in the woodland area

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage at the end of December and had a great time walking, exploring woods and paths above the cottage. The cottage feels very homely, warm, cleaned - the kitchen is the highlight! (See pics). We loved listening to music on the iPod while cooking meals! We walked on the path (just next to the cottage) all the way up to the ‘crossroad’ and did walks in both directions on two separate days. You can walk to La Montaneta from the cottage to explore the volcanic area around there. It was our second time in Tenerife so we tried to do things we haven’t before - our best walk was from Santiago del Teide to Masca (on the sunny day) - the views were amazing! We would recommend the cottage to couples, families and anyone who loved walking! Thank you for letting us stay Sergio and Yani! 😊

Great cottage well taken care of

  • 5 of 5

The only challenge is the road there, which needs a bit to get used to. Otherwise nice house with a barbecue and fireplace, in the middle of a forest

It's the best place to spend a vacation.

  • 5 of 5

It's a best, most wonderful place to stay we've visited ever. On top of the rest, surrounded by trees, deafening silence, tranquility and endless calmness. Breathtaking views, hiking trails and a stone's throw from all North insular attractions. A perfect place to hide, relax and taste the flavour of Tenerife's stellar nights and sunny days. Wildlife we couldn't discover before, e.g. wild rabbits crossing the road while you drive uphill to the house in the night or in an early morning. Exciting kitchen, as described, it's really the best part of the house. In-house barbecue will take you to the tour of the taste of tuna steaks, grilled asparagus and local giant bell pepper, bypassing traditional burger meat and other ordinary grilled dishes. Morning ritual of feeding domestic fish in the tank - is an excellent addition fun. The black-sanded beach is about 15 minutes away. We thought that if it's North we should go to the South part of the Island, but it suited our needs to swim. Excellent and friendly host knowing English as a native speaker.

Perfect hideaway for walkers and stargazers.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is well equipped and comfortable, we are a couple, the cottage accommodation will sleep up to 6 but we found it just the right size for us (did not use the additional fully serviced self contained outbuilding that sleeps 2).

Getting to the cottage, we were met by the owner at a restaurant and followed him up the steep forest road first time - we would strongly suggest you ask to do the same, its not showing on Google maps! Also, the inclines are such that you should rent a mid-sized and powered car as a minimum!

The walks directly up the mountain trail from the front door are very good and we intend to return to explore further. Like all walking in Tenerife you need to have some fitness and wear proper walking shoes, and we also use sticks for the assents, but we are of a certain age! A basic food hamper was waiting for us but we would suggest you find the Super-Dino or Hyper-Dino supermarket in Icod on your way to the Cottage to ensure you have enough food of your choosing for the first day or so, its a 20 min. round trip food run by car.

There is a wood burning stove in the bedroom (a room large enough to double as a cosy sitting room) and plenty of wood ready for the stove outside - we had several cosy evenings in after day walks in front of this stove, along with a bottle of wine! There is central heating as well - so the wood fire is an additional luxury to enjoy, if your that way inclined.

The other reviews here are all pretty much spot on, the pictures do seem to show the interiors rather smaller than they are in reality. Our only slight issue was with the internet access which was almost non-existent at times; we both need to keep in touch with work when on holiday - which is our problem and hopefully not yours. 4G phone worked OK for email so no big issue really.

We had several cloudless nights and the moon / stars are indeed very bright. There is a good quality telescope in the Cottage but we were so tired each night we just went out and looked up at the stars before bedtime.

All in all, a refreshing, relaxing and delightful stay in a lovely remote but accessible and ideal location on the Island for us. We will return.

Owner's Response: Thank you Laura and Michael for such a well explained and detailed review. We are glad you had a good time and of course you are very welcome to return to our cottage :) Regarding the 4G modem, it probably just needed a reseting.

A stunning, peaceful spot

  • 5 of 5

Sergio’s place is a wonderful hidden gem on a busy island, What great Air B&B–we were so pleased to have found this refuge. High up in a beautiful, quiet pine forest, the house is still very close to towns and sights so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. We really appreciated kind gestures like a basket of food on arrival, toys for our little one to play with, and great communication and advice. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

Sobre las nubes de Tenerife

  • 5 of 5
