Stunning, Deluxe 2 bed/2 bath Rural Retreat - Hot Tub, Tennis, Fishing and Golf
This beautiful, super-deluxe 5 star holiday Retreat has it all! The most picturesque location, set back off the road in wonderful mature woodlands, it is very private (no other buildings are visible from the cottage). Without stepping in a car, visitors can enjoy many wonderful walks through private woodlands and along the River Earn, where they can see fish jumping, deer, pheasant, partridge and red squirrels crossing woodland trails and birds of prey soaring overhead.
It is very romantic; a haven of peace and tranquillity where you can relax, unwind and soak up the spectacular views and the surrounding wildlife ... birdsong is the only noise to be heard!
Guests at the Retreat are able to enjoy a wonderful Hot Tub, the use of a new astro tennis court (located close to the cottage) and also benefit from free access to three beats on the River Earn (a short distance from the cottage door).
The cottage is a superb, listed example of Georgian architecture. It has been lovingly restored to successfully marry the charm and character of a traditional stone house with the best progressive eco-build practices. Relax and enjoy the benefits of sleeping in a breathable, allergy free house with solid oak wooden floors and underfloor heating.
'Wow!' is the first word that springs to mind when you step inside this amazing cottage. The beautiful interior has been renovated to the highest speculation and is full of style and character.
The entire interior has been newly renovated and modernised to incorporate a very large open-plan contemporary living space. The ceilings are incredibly high and the unique central sandstone chimney is a striking structure which facilitates the definition of the three living areas in the heart of the cottage. A stylish, fully equipped kitchen complete with all mod-cons and a Caithness stone worktop leads to the bright, wooden panelled dining area. The large oak table seats 8 comfortably, and offers fantastic South views out into the garden and beyond.
A wonderful atmospheric and cosy lounge is created around the wood-burner, where comfortable leather sofas are perfect for stretching out on in front of the fire. Beautiful Georgian windows have shutters and window seats and are the perfect place to enjoy a book or get the binoculars out and study visiting wildlife.
There are two spacious, bright, South-facing bedrooms: The Double (en suite) Room is beautifully decorated with an extremely comfortable kingsize bed, made up with crisp Egyptian cotton linen. Both bedrooms have more than ample hanging and shelf space and come with hair-dryers. The en suite is bright and high-ceilinged with a large Shower and window to the rear. The Twin Room is also high-ceilinged and extremely bright, with windows to both the South and West. There are two twin beds which can be made into a double if necessary.
The Family Bathroom is large and spacious with a generous doubled ended bath, separate walk in shower and is stocked with organic shampoo and soap. The lighting is high-tech; enjoy a romantic candle-lit bath bathed in stunning blue light!
Adjacent to the back door is a separate Outhouse/Utility Room, which is the perfect Washing and Drying Room. There is a large stainless steel sink, washing machine, plenty of cupboard and hanging space, an overhead pulley and underfloor heating. Spacious, airy and warm, it is the ideal place for pets to sleep when they are not in the garden. Please note that, due to our allergy free status, pets are not allowed in the house at any time.
For your Entertainment there is a 57' Smart/HD flat screen TV with a sub-woofer sound system and DVD player. There is a good selection of maps as well as interesting books on Scottish wildlife, history and culture.
Enjoy the picturesque location, wonderful views and sunsets from the sheltered decking area. The perfect place for a BBQ and to take a relaxing soak in the traditional, Swedish-style Hot Tub, as the sun dips down over Ben Vorlich and the Crieff hills in the West.
Guests at the Woodland Retreat can also enjoy playing tennis on a new astro/artificial grass tennis court. The court is a short distance from the cottage and has the same stunning views across the Strathearn Valley. See photo gallery for a photograph of the beautiful court.
Guests are also granted free access to three beats on the River Earn (a short distance from the cottage door).
The Woodland Retreat is the perfect location for a holiday cottage in Perthshire, quiet and secluded with amazing views over the Strathearn valley, yet only 10 mins from Auchterarder and the Gleneagles Hotel Resort and golf courses. Glenturret whisky distillery, Drummond Castle Gardens and Crieff are 15mins from the cottage. The city of Perth, Scone Palace, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument are all easily accessible in under 30mins as is Loch Tay and the Scottish Highlands. The capital city of Edinburgh and Scotland's largest city, Glasgow are both reached within an hour, making the Woodland Retreat the ideal base for a holiday in Scotland.

About the Owner
Lisa Roberts owns and manages the Woodland Retreat. Lisa lives on the Estate with her four children and husband, Jamie, who farms the surrounding agricultural land and manages the Fishing and Woodlands. The Woodland Retreat is their second holiday property on the Estate, both properties are 5 star, award-winning and top-rated in the area. They run a number of other successful long term let properties and wanted to give visitors from both the UK and overseas the opportunity to sample Scotland's wonderful rural life - somewhere they could come to relax, unwind and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Lisa used to run a tourism business out of the five star Gleneagles Hotel so is very familiar with the local area; the Retreats have a wealth of information for visitors to help plan their excursions as well as recommendations for dining in the area. Both Jamie and Lisa are sociable and well travelled and enjoy meeting the many visitors who come from all over the world to visit this special Retreat in a beautiful area of Perthshire.

Our family of 4 visited from California. This cottage was hands-down the nicest we stayed in. It was beautifully furnished, thoroughly equipped, with tons of extras. Our kids loved the sheep out front and even more loved exploring the pocket-sized forest behind the house. The village of Auchterarder did not hold us for long, but we liked Crieff (great kids' park) and driving around the area. The house was very convenient to touring much of Scotland. We never used the hot tub -- too inconvenient to have to stick around to heat it up via a wood fire. It rained every day of our visit, which made the lack of a clothes dryer an inconvenience. But the pluses outweigh those minor issues by far. Jamie and Lisa were excellent hosts, very kind and accommodating. We would return in a heartbeat.
Simply The Best
Hi Lisa and Jamie, we have rented many properties through Homeaway/VRBO.com before this one but this one is simply the best . . . definitely Better Homes and Gardens material. The property is exactly as described, well-equipped, very well decorated, and spotless. On top of that were all the unexpected extras . . . , travel books, bird books, whisky books, bathroom books, soaps, plants, fresh cut flowers, goodies, maps, a starter supply of groceries, etc. Also, found it to be a great base to visit the Highlands as well as the coast. The only thing that could have made our stay better was a bit more sunshine. Thanks again for letting us use your house and your pointers on what to see . . . especially enjoyed the St. Andrews area, Edradour distillery, and island tour of Staffa, Iona, & Mull. If I return to Scotland, I know exactly where to stay
heaven in scotland
THANK YOU LISA AND JAMIE FOR CREATING "HEAVEN" IN SCOTLAND
WE HAD AN ABSOLUTE SUPERB WEEK , WITHOUT DOUBT THE BEST COTTAGE WE HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF STAYING IN, SUBLIME . FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED TILL WE LEFT WE HAD A TREMENDOUS TIME , THE COTTAGE , THE TUB , THE HAMMOCK , THE GARDEN , , THE WILDLIFE, AND THE WALKS IN THE SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE , FABULOUS
A true Gem !!!
Dear Lisa and Jamie, Our 3 weeks stay was really wonderful, the cottage is a true gem!!!!! Thanks for everything!!! Mike and Edwin - The Netherlands
Don't tell your friends!
We watched this cottage being rebuilt as we stay at The Retreat (jJamie and Lisa's other hidden gem) on a regular basis. We knew that if the attention to detail, the sympathetic design and the homely touches were as good as their other cottage, then we would be in for a treat. We were not disappointed. This is a fabulous little bolt hole.
Luxurious but without the glitz, this place makes you feel special as soon as you turn up the drive.
It's perfectly located for exploring central Scotland, we been countless times over the years and still find new places. And we have our favourites, like the nearby Gloaburn farm shop for our groceries, or Delvinos in Crieff for dinner.
There's also nothing better than to spend a lazy day in the cottage to rewind and let the world melt away. Put the fire on, have a hot tub in the garden or go for a walk in the forest that Is quite literally on your doorstep. Discover what Scotland is really all about, lovely food, lovely scenery and lovely people. Once you have though, (I know, it's selfish!) please keep it to yourself.
Fabulous cottage in lovely setting
We stayed at The Woodland Retreat for 7 wonderful weeks as we were relocating to Scotland. We could not have wished for a more fabulous introduction to the area. Lisa and Jamie were very welcoming and couldn't have done more to make us feel at home in their beautiful retreat. The cottage was perfect in every respect; well appointed, great attention to detail with a blissfully calm feel. We would both have stayed for much longer had this been possible! I couldn't recommend it more for a relaxing, away from it all (yet close enough to lots of great places) break (or extended stay!). Thank you Lisa and Jamie
