Mas de Bazarde

Mas de Bazarde is a farmhouse built at the end of the 18 Century. Originally set in open countryside, the house is now part of the village of Orgon, which, with its walled fortification and its church sanctuary retains a unique rural atmosphere. The Mas has been refurbished to the highest standards and offers 4, superb self-catering apartments with a choice of one, two or three bedrooms. Local craftsmen and materials have been used in refurbishing the apartments which has ensured that the Provencal style has been retained whilst providing modern facilities.

Rock Climbing: ORGON is the ideal location for the rock climber who wants to climb all year round. A short walk through the village opens up to a large valley with somewhere in the region of 300 graded climbs, from 3 to 8C plus. The atmosphere is idyllic as the valley runs East-West and allows the climber the option during winter or summer to be in the sun or the shade.

Within 15/45 minutes drive are other excellent climbing areas such as Les Baux, St Remy-de-Provence, Mouries, Mausane, Fontvielles, Auraille and Buoux.

Cycling: Just a quick look through the Visitors Book at Mas de Bazarde will reveal the names of many British cyclists who have come here over the last 10 years to enjoy the riding, whether training, touring or just simply pottering around the quiet leafy lanes. And they keep coming back because this is a cycling paradise.

Whatever your expectations of a cycling holiday, Provence can be guaranteed to provide just what you are looking for, be it the rolling countryside, challenging hills, sleepy villages, flat plains or car-free country lanes and you don`t have to stray far from Orgon to enjoy it.

Walking : Spring and Autumn are delightful times to walk in most Countries, however, the clarity of light and the gentle warmth of the sun makes Provence and ideal location for a walking holiday.

We enjoy walking ourselves, and over the years we have collected many routes in the surrounding countryside, which we will be happy to share with our visitors if they so wish. We can offer advice and help where necessary and offer local maps.

Typically French holiday home

My family and I stayed in August 2008. The owner was excellent, and able to be flexible on our arrival dates as we were booking late and had limited flight availability.

Two bedroom apartment was big enough for our family of four, although the shower room was small and the shower leaked onto the floor. It is a ground floor apartment, and there was quite a lot of noise from the rented apartment above, but this is unavoidable on tiled floors.

There was a general smell of damp in the property but this is due to the fact that there is a small stream running right next to it. This problem was easily overcome by leaving the windows open - they have security bars.

The owner lives on site with his family and is extremely friendly.

The swimming pool is not heated, and even at the end of August did not get over 22 degrees which was a little cold for our 4 year old.

The village is quiet, but has the essentials such as pharmacy and bakery. There are restaurants in the village but we did not try them. There is a large supermarket in Cavaillon and fantastic pizza restaurant in Plan d'Orgon.

The location is ideal for getting onto and off of the autoroute linking Marseilles and Avignon. It is less than an hour from to water parks and beaches of the Marseilles area, the Pont du Gard and the Roman theatre in Orange. We also were within easy reach of Mont Ventoux and the spectacular village of Gordes.

Closer to hand are the beautiful village of St Remy de Provence and the towns of Avignon and Arles.

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the location for families who are prepared to travel for their sightseeing.

A car is essential at this property.
