Surpassed our expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We had an 8 night stay at Cleugh Manor for my 50th birthday celebrations. We needed somewhere that would accept a large party of guests and their dogs and had all we wanted.

A very comfortable and beautiful place within sublime grounds.

We especially loved our walks around the Manor, the river was a surprise and the dogs and children loved the plodge.

We had beautiful weather throughout our stay, the swimming pool was a disappointment even with the best of intentions to help heat it, we only ventured in a couple of times before the teeth chattering got a bit noisy.

The rooms were gorgeous, all our guests had to pull straws on who got which room as there was something in each for everyone.

The men loved the games room, it was hard some days to get everyone together as they had all gone into different areas of the house, but that was all part of the fun.

If I was to have a constructive critique about certain aspects, I'd have the hot tub outside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The gazebo was a great idea but it was too hidden away to enjoy the gardens, however we had such great sunshine, we brought the furniture out onto the lawn.

Maybe a welcome pack with instructions on how to use certain things in the house.

Thank you for the bottle of fizz too that was a very kind touch to make the beginning of my special birthday sparkle.

We all had a great time, the enclosed court yard was a blessing for the dogs to enjoy their holiday too without any stress of them escaping.

I don't have a bad word to say about this property and would wholeheartedly recommend it for the perfect retreat.

Thank you for having us.

P.S. A walkie talkie would be a great idea if we ever came back. It's that vast to find everyone sometimes :)

Owner's Response: The staff are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are going to be installing a second outdoor Jacuzzi next year so please check it out when you come next. We are going to have an instruction pack done up for Cleugh Manor which we will publish shortly. The pool was delayed in heating as it had just undergone some repairs so we were a bit late in getting it heated up. It takes about a day to increase the temperature by one degree, but we intend starting earlier next year so you can thoroughly enjoy it. Thank you for such a warm and lovely comment - we are part of a micro-economy here and your comments and business is a huge help to us. We look forward to seeing you soon. Kind regards, Cleugh Manor Staff

My parents golden wedding anniversary

  • 5 of 5

It was brilliant, the on-line images do not do it justice.

Loads of rooms and space plus lots of things to do even if the weather is not great!

All the rooms are very spacious, the property is very well appointed with lots of luxury items you would not expect in a rental.

Amazing place would recommend to anyone only a couple of things to change

  • 5 of 5

We had a family weekend of which there were 12 of us 6 adults 6 children and we all loved the house all had something to do and plenty of space so never felt we were on top of each other the pool games room and cinema room were a massive hit with everyone the kitchen amazing and the beds all so comfy the only criticism I would have is that the drawing room is wasted and not a room any of felt comfortable sitting in so a suggestion would be to put some nice comfortable sofas and atv in this room because when you have large parties like ours there aren't enough comfy seats for everyone to sit together and the indoor hot tub should definitely be outside and maybe heat the pool but apart from that well done cleugh house it really is an amazing place you have and we will definitely be back thanks

Fantastic property its like being in a fairy tale. This house has all the facilities you can imagine, including a swimming pool, hot tub, steam room, full sized snooker table, darts and other lots lots of games. We found the house nice and clean and even got presents when we first arrived. The staff are friendly and polite and were able to resolve things immediately. Thank you for a wonderful stay we will be back very soon.

Beautiful house. However !!

  • 3 of 5

The house was wonderful but there were some things which were not up to the standards we were expecting.

1) The downstairs toilet and wash area had a drain type smell which permeated into the hallway and was very unpleasant

2) Not all televisions were in working order

3) The cinema room surround sound system was not working and therefore made use of cinema not possible

4) Internet was hopeless. You had to go outside to get a signal likewise if you needed to make or receive a call on your mobile.

5) Pots and pans were left filthy and had to be scrubbed clean before use as they were left greasy. The ovens were absolutely filthy

6) Conservatory roof was leaking

7) Unfortunately the week we were on holiday it was cold and wet, one upstairs radiator was leaking so couldn't be left turned on

8) Underfloor heating wasn't working properly.

9) Many appliances in the kitchen were disconnected

10) Many areas of the house were dirty and clearly hadn't been dusted for months.

Good points were the swimming pool. Hot tub ( You can't use Hot tub and Sauna simultaneously) Walks.

Family weekend

  • 4 of 5

Have just arrived home after staying at Cleugh Manor, 10 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs. This place has something to offer for everyone including the dogs! When I asked the children what they enjoyed the best they said definately the pool and what weather we had for them to enjoy it everyday, and they Had to go in just before we left this morning. Had shopping delivered as it's a long way if you forget to bring something. The house accommodated our party size very well, there's plenty to do and see. We ate in for two nights and had one night out at a local pub. There are some things that needed maintenance but nothing that would put me off staying there again.
