Surpassed our expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We had an 8 night stay at Cleugh Manor for my 50th birthday celebrations. We needed somewhere that would accept a large party of guests and their dogs and had all we wanted.

A very comfortable and beautiful place within sublime grounds.

We especially loved our walks around the Manor, the river was a surprise and the dogs and children loved the plodge.

We had beautiful weather throughout our stay, the swimming pool was a disappointment even with the best of intentions to help heat it, we only ventured in a couple of times before the teeth chattering got a bit noisy.

The rooms were gorgeous, all our guests had to pull straws on who got which room as there was something in each for everyone.

The men loved the games room, it was hard some days to get everyone together as they had all gone into different areas of the house, but that was all part of the fun.

If I was to have a constructive critique about certain aspects, I'd have the hot tub outside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The gazebo was a great idea but it was too hidden away to enjoy the gardens, however we had such great sunshine, we brought the furniture out onto the lawn.

Maybe a welcome pack with instructions on how to use certain things in the house.

Thank you for the bottle of fizz too that was a very kind touch to make the beginning of my special birthday sparkle.

We all had a great time, the enclosed court yard was a blessing for the dogs to enjoy their holiday too without any stress of them escaping.

I don't have a bad word to say about this property and would wholeheartedly recommend it for the perfect retreat.

Thank you for having us.

P.S. A walkie talkie would be a great idea if we ever came back. It's that vast to find everyone sometimes :)

Owner's Response: The staff are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are going to be installing a second outdoor Jacuzzi next year so please check it out when you come next. We are going to have an instruction pack done up for Cleugh Manor which we will publish shortly. The pool was delayed in heating as it had just undergone some repairs so we were a bit late in getting it heated up. It takes about a day to increase the temperature by one degree, but we intend starting earlier next year so you can thoroughly enjoy it. Thank you for such a warm and lovely comment - we are part of a micro-economy here and your comments and business is a huge help to us. We look forward to seeing you soon. Kind regards, Cleugh Manor Staff

Lovely weekend away

  • 4 of 5

The house is lovely and was nice for our weekend away with friends and family.

It is spread over 3 floors but in my opinion not very well planned out and could have been designed a bit better although it was all very clean and tidy.

The Celestial Suite at the top of house was well used by all of us, as was the cinema room. The London Room on the ground floor was nice and cosy but not really big enough to accomodate all of us.

Heating and hot water was a bit hit and miss throughout the building. I am unsure whether this was because the house was so big but some bathrooms had hot water whilst others did not.

We did have an issue with the drains while we were there but we reported this and it was sorted within a couple of hours - so no real problem.

The kitchen is a good size but the cupboards and drawers were stocked a bit haphazardly and we also found that the dining table was a bit small for our 14 guests.

We did not get to use the swimming pool and sauna as they had been closed during our stay but I would imagine that in the summer months it would be amazing.

The house is quite remote which is lovely but you will need to either have shopping delivered or take plenty 'supplies'.

All in all we had a good weekend.

Fabulous house, so well maintained and the facilities are brilliant.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have wanted a more perfect place to stay. There were 12 of us for a long weekend, plenty of room for eating and socialising together. Comfortable beds, more bathrooms than you can shake a stick at, a kitchen so well equipped for all types of requirements and the steam room, hot tub, gym, cinema room and snooker room/bar kept everybody entertained. Will certainly be booking to stay again!

Wonderful weekend at Cleugh Manor

  • 5 of 5

Our family group stayed for the weekend at Cleugh Manor to celebrate a family members birthday and we all had a fantastic time in what is a wonderful house. Adults and children alike were amazed with the character and space in the house, the mix of old and new works really well together and nobody wanted to leave on Monday morning. Our grandchildren really enjoyed the pool. It was a great weekend and we all now have fantastic memories to remember our visit. The bedrooms were all different and amazing, the kitchen had everything needed to cook for a large group of people. The house is so large there was room for everyone to have their own space however we tended to congregate together in the common areas. The gym was well used by the younger generation and the cinema and popcorn machine was a big hit too. Everyone enjoyed walking in the extensive grounds. We hope to return again as a family group however my aunt and uncle were so impressed by the house they have already booked for their family next year.
