Nestled in a peaceful spot on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Yearle Mill is an enchanting conversion of an 18th century corn mill. The Grade II listed mill has a captivating history with many carefully-preserved original features which tell the story of its rich past. The result is a wonderfully warm, characterful home with plenty of space for a really rather special holiday with family or friends.
Set in a peaceful position within pretty grounds, the mill is a substantial three-storey detached property offering spacious, comfortable accommodation for up to 11 guests. The heart of the building incorporates the original water wheel and applewood mill cogs which sit as an outstanding feature in the open plan dining room. Together with low beamed ceilings, antique furnishings and an immense dining table, it provides a superb entertaining space for atmospheric dinner parties.
The kitchen space is beautifully rustic in a French farmhouse style featuring freestanding units, wood panelling and a wonderful stone-flagged floor. The kitchen is well-equipped to meet all your holiday requirements, including a super Aga Rangemaster which provides a cosy spot to potter around, prepare supper or simply relax and enjoy the views across the mill stream from the large arched feature window.
Upstairs, the integrity of the original building continues to shine through with quirky features and period details around every corner. The timber-beamed, second floor sitting room is classically furnished with deep comfortable sofas set around a large freestanding wood burner, while high backed wing chairs offer snug reading corners for catching-up with a good book. The property features six delightfully appointed bedrooms (three doubles, one double / twin, one twin and one single) over the second and third floors including a master bedroom with a sumptuous four poster bed and flowing drapes and a pretty twin bedroom featuring two large milling stones as an impressive centrepiece. The heritage detailing continues into the three bathrooms, including an Edwardian WC, period wash basins and a Victorian cast-iron bath.
The property sits in pretty grounds with plenty of space for children and dogs. There is a patio and furniture for outside dining. Access to the mill is through an attractive natural wildlife habitat of light woodland bordering the Wooler Water. Within the secluded site are several stone and timber outbuildings, attractive gardens, a large pond, mature woodland and a mill stream, offering plenty of space for children to run around (although parents of young children should note the adjacent mill stream and close proximity of the river, lying only 50 yards from the property).
The mill sits just one mile from to the charming village of Wooler which offers good local amenities, including small independent shopping, and a fine selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants, including the highly regarded Milan Restaurant reviewed by renowned food critic AA Gill. Recently, the owners of Milan opened ‘No. 1’ on the High St, where you can relax in comfort and sample some spectacular tapas dishes with a fine wine or a draft Morretti. For provisions, you will find a bakery, two high quality butchers, a small co-op supermarket and ‘The Good Life’, a wonderful deli selling cheeses, cured meats and health foods. More extensive shopping can be found in the historic market towns of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnwick and Kelso which are all within an easy half-hour drive.
