On the West Coast 100km north of Lisbon.There are direct flights to Lisbon on BA from Heathrow, Easyjet from Luton, Monarch from Gatwick and TAP from Gatwick and Heathrow, bmibaby from Birmingham and Aer Lingus from Dublin. Location, Location, Location! The house occupies one of the best positions on the complex (overlooking the tenth fairway) conveniently situated between the Clubhouse, the beach and the hotel. The clubhouse, in one direction, the Marriott and beach in the opposite direction, are about 250 meters from the house. Both the clubhouse and the hotel offer casual and fine dining. There is a taxi rank at the hotel. Groceries can be bought at the shop in the resort. From its slightly elevated position, the house commands magnificent views over the golf course and the Atlantic Ocean. Inside, it is light and airy with access from all main rooms to the patio or 3 private balconies. It is situated by the large (approx. 18x 9m) shared pool and has been furnished by the owners' personal to a very high standard

Golf and Tennis: Both golf and tennis are available on the Praia D'El Rey complex. Golf tee times can be booked ahead of your visit directly with the Club and up to date charges can be provided by the golf reception staff. A set of golf clubs and a golf trolley are provided in the house. Clubs, trolleys and buggies can be rented from the Golf Office.

'Clube Adventura' outdoor activity centre and games room offers Paintball, Surfing, Archery, Orienteering and Quad Biking to the under 16's. Packages vary from half day rate of 25 euro to the 5 day rate of 120 euro. (Please, contact owner).

The Marriot Hotel, 150 meters away, has a Spa where you can have all sorts of beauty treatments and massages. For a small charge you can spend the day at the hotel and use all the facilities including the various swimming pools.

For Internet Access the hotel business centre is the nearest, costing 3.5 euro for 15 min or there is free wifi at the golf club. There are internet cafes in Peniche and Caldas.

Other attractions: Whilst golf is a major attraction, there are plenty of other reasons for spending a holiday here. Relax and unwind in the sun by the sheltered pool, do some leisurely sight-seeing round the many fascinating nearby historic sites, browse the local shops and markets, play tennis on the all-weather, floodlit courts. The beach boasts unspoilt golden sands as far as you can see and the Marriott provides a lifeguard in high season. Water sports: sailing, windsurfing, surfing, game fishing and diving are available at other centres close by, some in the calm and protected waters of the Obidos Lagoon. For daily groceries and barbecues, there is a small supermarket on site and there are several larger supermarkets within easy driving distance. To ensure you can totally relax, included in the rental are the services of the locally-resident, English (Portuguese fluent) villa managers. They are available as required to provide any help or advice you need during your visit.

About Catrina

The owner, Fergus, lives in London and often flies to Praia del Rey for some sunshine golf. He is the third generation of the family to play golf and with two very young sons is intending to introduce them to the game.

Catrina purchased this house in 2004

Why Catrina chose Praia D'el Rey

After spending 6 holidays in Praia del Rey we decided it was time to buy our own property! The golf course is one of the best in Portugal and the house is in a great position to watch golf as well as play. It overlooks the tenth fairway and green but there is no danger of stray balls reaching the garden or house.

We have had non golfing members of the family to visit and they found plenty to do. The teenagers went to Surf school at Baleal, the Foodies went to the fish and produce markets in Peniche and Caldas de Rainah and the 10 year old joined the activity club run by the Golf Club.

What makes this house unique

The view of the tenth fairway and green decided us to buy the house. After playing it is fun to sit with a glass of wine and watch the golfers trying to get their ball onto the green and not in the pond that protects the green. It seems such an easy game when you are watching with a glass of wine in your hand!

This beautiful house has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and provides a wonderfully comfortable and relaxing holiday home. The large communal garden provides plenty of space at the back of the house and the pool is accessed via a gate that is about 25 paces from the house. The barbeque is built in by the kitchen door and the village (Ferrel) butcher will provide excellent steaks and sausages at a very reasonable price! The dining area opens through French doors to a patio area where there is furniture for outdoor dining and reclining. Towels for use in the villa are provided and coloured towels for use by the pool or on the beach are also provided. These are changed weekly. Extra maid service can be booked in advance if you feel that once a week is not enough. An album of extra photographs can be emailed to you if you want to see more.

Very bad experience with the manager

My previous appreciation has been removed... I wonder why... The place is very nice but the management of this house is a nightmare.

We arrived at the house and the cleaning was not made at all. We lost the day of renting and could not have diner at home until they finish cleaning. They suggested to pay us the restaurant and have booked on their own the restaurant of their choice (we even did not know which restaurants were around and which prices they was offering). They have accepted by email the bill and asked us to be provided with the contact details of our bank. This was in August. Now, we are still expecting to be provided with the repayment.

For our departure, we have been told that we could leave at 14pm and finally at 21h41 you informed us that we had to leave by 10am. I answered at 22h57 that it was very short notice and that we have not prepared our luggage's because they said 14 pm. Finally, we left at 11am which is very good.

Owner's Response: Our Managers have been fantastic over many years and just once in all those years the cleaning team turned up late at the property hence it was not ready for the next guest. They suggested that the guests should go and have something to eat while the house was cleaned and they would pay. It all went wrong when an excessive bill was presented. The managers have offered a reasonable amount of compensation to the party but the problem has not been resolved. The guests then decided, without permission, they could leave late on their departure day and prevented the cleaners starting to clean the house for the next group. This would have had a domino effect. I support the managers who have never slipped up in over ten years.

Amazing villa...amazing owners

This is a brilliant villa in a fantastic location. It is even better that what you see in the pictures and the description.

Where shall I start???

The villa is very spacious and really has everything you could wish for. When we arrived it was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. The tea, coffee, milk, bread, fruit, butter etc were very much appreciated on arrival.

The views of the golf course are fantastic and you can spend many hours watching the great, the good and the awful players making their way around the course.

The pool area is also very good. It was so clean and the pool in enormous (similar size to our leisure centre at home!). Even when we visited in August it was very quiet and you felt like it was a private...rather than shared pool.

The location on the PdR resort is also one of the best. Beware many other villas on this complex are a long way from the hotel, the beach and the golf. THIS villa on the other hand is right in the middle of everything and you can easily walk anywhere in 3-5 minutes.

We have never booked a "town house" or "shared pool" before but we honestly felt that this was 99% as good. The level of privacy is high and the location is very private.

FINALLY...the owners (Catrina and Fergus) could not have been more polite, friendly and helpful. It made a big difference to know they were interested in us having a great holiday.

For golfers....use the clubs in the villa if they are available. Book the T times via the web not in the shop and you save about 30%. If you want to play 3-4 holes in the evening that should not be a problem :)

For teenagers....there is a small bar on site (Zanzibar) which the kids liked but it is expensive at 6-8 euros/drink. Not much else for kids to do unless you join up at hotel.

We have visited lots of villas in lots of countries. This is one of the nicest for all the reasons stated above.

Golfing holiday in April '09

Five of us, all ladies, had a great stay at this property - we liked it so much that this is our second visit. It is in a lovely location overlooking the 10th fairway of Praia del Rey Golf course and has a shared pool. Unfortunately it was not used this year as it was a bit cold. There seemed to be no-one else nearby and it was extremely quiet. The house had all mod cons and is nicely decorated and very comfortable to lounge around in and watch dvd's and the news etc.

It is an excellent place to stay for golfers as we drove to Golden Eagle where we had two rounds and to Bom Sucesso which is a new golf course 10 minutes north of Praia where we had one round. The golf at Praia itself can be rather slow, we got entangled in a roll up of mens foursomes who seemed not to use the fairways at all - times should be chosen fairly carefully. Our second round at Praia was clutter free as we started out in the rain.

Having looked at Praia on Google Earth it was interesting to see the landscape and make a good choice of places to visit and the beaches were lovely to walk - we found one beach just north of Peniche which seemed to be the surfers paradise - I have never seen so many black suited people bobbing around in the water and the waves were spectacular.

Having golfed together for several years now we have decided that it is cheaper to book you own accomodation and flights and book the golf though an agency - divided by five of us we get much better value.

Upon arrival at the house all beds were made up and there were plenty of towels and a welcome pack of food and essentials which was greatly appreciated.

We have recommended other golfing friends.

Golf in may 2015

We are eight men (+ 55) from Sweden that traveled for the first time to Praia del Rey in May 2014. And we come to exactly the right place. The house was welcoming, clean and with a fantastic view over 10 fairway of Praia part Rey Golf course.

All of ours expectations on the house, golf-courses and the weather was met and we will be back next spring.

Ein Haus wo man sich sofort wie zu hause fühlt

wir sind zwei Familien mit jeweils 2 Kindern,in dem sehr schönen geräumigen Haus ist ausreichend Platz für 8 Personen . Für die Kinder war natürlich der riesige Pool das

schönste ,den auch wir Erwachsenen ausgiebig nutzten. Die Terasse mit Grill und Garten ist ebenfalls herrlich zum Entspannen und Relaxen geeignet.Den Strand erreicht man zu

Fuß in wenigen Minuten. Als Einkaufsmöglichkeit nutzten wir den Supermarkt in

Peniche,die Stadt erreicht man mit dem Auto in ca. 20 min.

Der Kontakt mit dem Hauseigentümer funktionierte wunderbar.

Also rundum war es für uns alle eine Superwoche an die wir uns noch lange erinnern werden.

The Praia D’El Rey complex comprises 200 hectares of pine-forested terrain and sand dunes fronting a 2.5km long beach. Local places of interest include Obidos, a medieval walled town (15 minutes’ drive) with several good restaurants; Lisbon, an hour’s drive, with all the attractions of an ancient European capital; Caldas da Rainha, a market town 20 minutes drive north, providing many cultural interests, good shopping and restaurants as does Peniche, a fishing port 15 minutes to the southwest. Boat trips to the Berlenga Islands, a nature reserve renowned for its birds, sea life and diving, can be taken from Peniche harbour. Baleal is a 'surfers heaven' and is 15 mins from the villa. It is possible to hire all the gear and have tuition at several surf camps. The variety of restaurants in the area is endless with all price points being covered.

Golf: The Praia D'El Rey course has been voted best in Portugal twice by the Peugeot Golf Guide. It has spectacular views of the ocean from the holes above the cliffs and it provides a challenge to both experienced and novice golfers. The English pro is there to give lessons and there is a driving range and practice ground available. There are several other golf courses within easy driving distance. A set of clubs and a trolley are provided with the villa, extra sets (including left handed ones), trolleys and buggies can be hired from the golf office.
