Overview

About the property

Three bedrooms, one en-suite bathroom and two en-suite shower rooms. Sleeps six.

Middle Hollacombe Farmhouse, a stunning property, created from the ruins of an ancient Devon Longhouse. The immaculate interior combines a welcoming feeling of tradition with clean, stylish and eco-friendly living. The spacious ground floor features two original medieval fireplaces. Upstairs there are three modern en-suite bedrooms with full under floor heating.

Are you an artist? Would you like to use the artist's studio at Middle Hollacombe Farmhouse? It is a great creative space attached to the Farmhouse with good light and lovely views. Easels, boards and seating are provided but please bring your own materials with you. This facility is not normally available so make a request when you book and talk to the owner. For safety reasons this is a space for adults and not children.

The Farmhouse is tucked away in a gentle, secluded valley surrounded by traditional Devon farmland and set within its own landscaped garden. A true rural retreat and yet only one and a half miles from the bustling market town of Credition and nine miles from the cathedral city of Exeter.

Set in glorious countryside between moor and coasts, Middle Hollacombe is in the heart of Devon. The edge of Dartmoor is just 10 miles away, where lush countryside and ancient woodland gives way to the famous moor. From Crediton's historic station, with free car parking, Tarka Line trains run as far as the North Devon Coast at Barnstaple and to Exmouth in the South. There are good walks from a number of stations en- route. Journey time by car to either coast is approximately 40 minutes. The opportunities for walkers and cyclists in the vicinity of the Farmhouse are many and varied; the Coast to Coast footpath passes within two miles of the property.

DARTMOOR

There is plenty of information on walks on and around Dartmoor in the desk under the stairs, but the definitive source of current information is the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the website www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk and in particular the regular publication Enjoy Dartmoor available at various Information Centres and online. This gives a list of guided walks and all other activities organised by the NPA, as well as times when the firing ranges are closed to the public.

For serious walkers either myself or a colleague, Pete Cann (who lives in Exeter), may, given enough notice, be available to provide guided walks in the remoter regions of the moor, these tending to be around 10 miles in length and typically 4 hours in duration. Pete is exceptionally knowledgeable on all things Dartmoor and has devised and led more than 300 walks. His telephone number is 01392-679705.

For serious mountain bikers a local man, Ross Stephens (the builder who worked on the farmhouse), again given enough notice, is prepared to lead rides around virtually any challenging terrain in Devon, especially Dartmoor and Exmoor. He has a van to transport bikes and lives at the bottom of Chiddenbrook Hill as you drop down from Cromwell’s Cutting. His telephone number is 01363-775790 and is sometimes available in the evenings and at weekends.
