About this property

LaPorcilaia Holiday heaven in the heart of Italy Large sunny breathtaking views

The villa is located on the border of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio, surrounded by green hills and meadows and fronted by an unforgettable view of Lake Bolsena. The exquisite apartment has stunning views from every window, with Lake Bolsena to the front and provides an impressive 130 mts, 2 bedrooms - 2 bathrooms of living space, beautifully furnished and comfortable. It is the ultimate Italian experience, an ideal situation for a romantic week away from it all, but is large enough for two couples sharing a holiday or for a family wanting to introduce their children to nature, history, culture, good food and fantastic hours spent on the shores of Lake Bolsena

Our villa is set amongst the hills of Umbria, near Orvieto and has breath-taking views of Lake Bolsena to the front. It is located in between Bolsena, Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio, a fairy-tale hill top hamlet where time has stood still, which has been designated a "unesco world heritage site."
We live in England, but we try to spend as much time at the villa as possible and we plan to move there one day! The ground floor is our holiday apartment and we rent the large luxurious first floor apartment that has its own independent entrance. The apartment is large (130 square metres) and it has been beautifully renovated by using local materials such as cotto, basalt and chestnut wood. It has all the comforts of modern life, home from home, including dish washer, washing machine and free wi fi connection. There are magnificent views from every window of the apartment and the large loggia is ideal for lazy lunches or long suppers or simply to sit and watch the sun sets on Lake Bolsena and the skies on fire, with a cool glass of Orvieto or Est! Est! Est!

If you come in the summer the lake is deliciously clean and warm and it is always possible to find a secluded beach around the lake, safe from the Italian summer bank holiday. The late spring is beautiful and it makes you want to take up painting, when the hills become yellow with the “ginestra” in flower and the fields around the house are turned to purple by the clover and red by the poppies and to all the other vivid colours of the palette by hundreds of wild flower in competition with each other. The autumn is warm and makes you feel good to be alive and sample the fruits of the land, the porcini and truffles, the boar stews, the grapes and the chestnuts. This is one of the best regions for the Italian traditional cuisine, based on fresh local ingredients and what is in season. However it is still good value and the local wine is excellent around five euros per bottle at the restaurant.
The area is in between 3 regions, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio and although we are away from it all in a hidden corner of paradise, we are really close to the main Italian railway and motorway network. This makes the villa an ideal base to explore the wonderful sites in central Italy and visit Rome which is only 50 minutes train ride away. However there is so much to do and see that you will be hard pressed to travel further then half an hour radius if you stay for a week. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Rural Setting in Lazio
An excellent property, somewhat isolated, but never-the-less in a stunning location. Our hosts were most welcoming and assisted us throughout our stay.

Great property within lovely surroundings
A large, comfortable, fully equipped top floor apartment with excellent extensive views over the surrounding countryside and Lake Bolsena beyond which is a short drive away. We arrived during a long period of very hot dry weather. We were delighted to find that gentle breezes from the direction of the lake helped to keep things comfortable during the many hours we spent on the balcony for meals or just relaxing with a glass of wine taking in the sunsets over the lake. The property was a good base for exploring the many picturesque hill-top and lakeside towns and villages like Orvieto, Bolsena, the delightful Civita di Bagnoregio which are relatively near and Cortona, Spoleta, Assissi and Pienza which are a couple of hours away. The property is in a lovely secluded location. Situated at the end of a long drive, you won't be disturbed by passing traffic. Malcolm and Giulia , the owners use the lower apartment when they visit and are discreet and unintrusive hosts. They are excellent company and are always available for guidance on places to visit. They have owned LaPorcilaia for several years during which time they have been carefully and expertly transforming a run down former agricultural property into the lovely property with landscaped grounds that we see today. We enjoyed our stay at LaPorcilaia immensely and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

Amazing location with a beautiful view.
A beautiful house in a location secluded yet near to everything. The house is well equipped, modern and homely. We enjoyed visiting all surrounding villages , with views and restaurants, bars. Then enjoyed cooking at home with the beautiful views of lakes and sunsets. Near the autostrada so Florence is only 2 hours drive. Orvieto is stunning as is Montefiscione. Both on the doorstep. We had a fabulous time at this property.

About the host

We have bought the villa about fifteen years ago when it was in a total state of disrepair. At times it has been a struggle to get it completed and a battle against the Italian red tape, but we have done it and the journey has made us grow and find many new friends on the way. We hope to be able to retire there one day and in the interim we love to share this little bit of paradise with our guests.

Why they chose this property

It is a wondrous place of intense beauty, peace and tranquillity. Please contact us and I will send you lots of photos.
