About the property

A spacious 2-bedroom fully furnished apartment in the old part of the town

This comfortable and well equipped apartment lies in the centre of the old town of Perpignan, in an historic building with fine views over the spacious Place de la Republique. The building was completely renovated in 2007 shortly after the refurbishment of the square into a large open pedestrian space.

The apartment is located on the 2nd floor of number 5, next to the Municipal Theatre. It has a large living room overlooking the square with dining area and fully equipped open plan kitchen. It sleeps 4 in two double bedrooms (single beds) and there is a modern fully tiled shower room.

The square plays host to a daily (except Monday) market and stages many live concerts and spectacles throughout the year. Locals and visitors alike congregate to shop or relax in the many cafes throughout the year.

Perpignan is a vibrant, colourful and multicultural town. It's soul is more in tune with Spain than France and it proudly flies the yellow and red Catalan flag. It is a place where winter is short and it boasts some 300 days of sunshine a year.

Perpignan has a year round calendar of festivals and entertainment and hosts the internationally acclaimed exhibition of photojournalism. The town pulsates to the sound of music in summer and sparkles in the Christmas lights.

Perpignan is passionate about rugby and the locals are keen supporters of both USAP and the Catalan Dragons.

Perpignan is also noted for the restoration of its historical heritage, which is evident in its many attractions: the Palais des Rois de Majorque, the Cathedral St Jean, the Castillet and the Casa Pairal Museum to name but a few.

Perpignan is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding region. It lies close to the sandy Mediterranean beaches of Canet en Roussillon and Argeles sur Mer.

Further south are the picturesque resorts of the Cote de Vermeille, the most noted of which is Collioure. Alternatively head north to the historic French towns of Narbonne and Carcassonne.

Inland lie the mountain of Canigou and the ski resorts of the Pyrennees, accessed by the valleys of the rivers Tech and Tet.

Along the former border between Spain and France lie the Cathar castles of Queribus and Peyrepeteuse.

Many of these are accessible by train or bus for a €1 fare.

Spain is now but a short journey South using the TGV and offers the delights of the towns of Figueres, Girona and Barcelona.

Nice big apartment, wonderful kitchen.

We stayed 5 days in the apartment on the Place de la Republique. It's a really good location but did mean parking in a car parking building a couple of minutes walk away. It was possible to offload and upload the car from the carpark just under the Place, but this would not be an economic place to park over a few days. The apartment is large and pleasant and has a 'proper' well designed and fully kitted out kitchen that allowed us to operate happily as if at home. The bathroom was also very good. The only downside was the bed. The master bed, probably a Queen, gave me a very sore back each night: although it was firm, it seemed to lack support. I think it's probably looking ready to be replaced in the not-too-distant future. Perpignan offered us a base to see the countryside and we really enjoyed hiking in the Pyrenees-Orientale and wine tasting in Maury. Otherwise, Perpignan itself was a little bit of a disappointment, however, being there in unusually 'bad' weather didn't help (and this was weather that hit much of Europe, so is not to be held against Perpignan, which wasn't its usual self!). I do recommend this apartment and location for a family, unreservedly with an updated master bed.

Comfortable city centre living

We have just returned from a three week stay (our fourth since 2011, all in autumn and winter), in this apartment. We have found it to be consistently clean, comfortable and superbly equipped. The owners have retained many original features and added modern furniture and equipment to create a genuine "home from home" holiday experience. It's central location is perfect for enjoying the unique ambiance of the square and old town. All daily essentials can be bought within 5 minutes walk. It is an ideal base, close to public transport, for enjoying the Perpignan area.

Die Wohnung liegt an einem zentralen Platz mitten in Perpignan

Das Appartement auf der 2. Etage ohne Lift ist schön und praktisch eingerichtet; es liegt an bester Lage. Der Ausblick auf den Place de la République ist ansprechend; dort werden täglich Gemüse und Früchte angeboten. Rund um den Platz gibt es Restaurants, Kaffees und diverse Lebensmittelläden. In der schönen Altstadt kann man sich verweilen. Die Bus-Haltestelle erreicht man zu Fuss in 5 - 8 Min. Der Service-Publique ist ausgezeichnet. Ab Bus-Bahnhof beim Gare TGV kann man mit dem Bus in die nähere oder auch weitere Umgebung ausschweifen. Ohne eigenes Auto kann man sich in und um Perpignan gut bewegen.
