Exclusive Rural Retreat for 17 Guests, 6 Suites, Horse-riding and infinity Pool
Setting foot in Quinta do Monte is like instantly switching into holiday mode. A hideaway bench from which to enjoy open views over the countryside, a well-needed infinity pool (about 9mx5m) to refresh yourself after sun-bathing or horse-riding, as well as a large and very green garden to play football in... Quinta do Monte has it all! There are 6 en-suite bedrooms to accommodate 17 guests: a 6-bed dormitory, a 3-bed children bedroom, 2 twin and 2 double bedrooms. There are also 2 lounges, a dining-room and a fully equipped kitchen, as well as a wonderful sheltered terrace for outdoor meals and relaxing breaks. The house comes with daily maid-service to make your life easier and, for this extra touch of comfort, breakfasts and meals can be ordered in advance for an additional fee.
The Alentejo, one of the worlds largest producers of wine and cork, is one of the most beautiful regions of Portugal. The villa also overlooks rice fields in the area, which extend at the foot of the hill. The Alentejo is home to some of the most beautiful beaches of Portugal, such as Comporta, a stunning stretch of white sand and pretty calm turquoise water unlike anything you've seen in Europe. The villa is located halfway between the beach and the historical town, UNESCO World Heritage of Évora, which is also worth a lengthy visit.

Peace, privacy and countryside
We are frequent travellers, and this is one of the best getaways we have ever found in Europe. Apart from the amazing natural surroundings, our overall impression was one of perfect privacy, great service and a house one feels is much loved . Rooms are spacious, the marble dining table has amazing views over the serene Alentejo plains, and the swimming pool is the best ever for a relaxing afternoon with friends/family. With our rented car (at Lisbon airport) we explored Evora, Alcacer do Sal, Estremoz and the Comporta beach. Great location between the sea and the countryside. Great smart shopping in laid-back and international Comporta and fresh sea food everywhere. Tranquillity and good taste. Definitely to come back again.

We'll be back!!
We stayed in Quinta do Monte for a week in August. There was 12 of us and we loved the sheer space and the cosiness of the villa. The children had LOADS of space to play outside and the garden, with the view, the lawn and the beautiful pool area was so relaxing...
I read the negative review and I couldn't disagree more: there are mosquitoes, of course, because this is the country side! We had our repellent and we didn't feel that they were spoiling our holiday at all, quite the opposite: we were very sad to leave.
The caretakers were very attentive and friendly, it was great to see the house so well taken care of and to have our bedrooms done up everyday. We didn't have the issue that were complained of in the other review, the agency must have addressed it. They were respectful and asked permission before coming in the only time that they had to.
In a word, Quinta do Monte is a 5-star accommodation, very quiet, that deserves to be recommended. My best advice is to book it and then, just enjoy...
Peace and freedom in a wonderful property
The feeling of freedom and space coupled with the authentic atmosphere of a truly lovely Portuguese country-home farm was very liberating and reposing.
Our meals were eaten on the wonderful terrace overlooking distant rice fields, the river and hills. The views are simply breath-taking!
The inside is furnished with charming Portuguese antiques and art works in perfect taste. We were comfortably installed in the six bedrooms and spoilt by the attentive staff who prepared our breakfasts and cooked our dinners.
It was wonderful trekking in the surrounding countryside with its endless views of cork oak, olive and pine trees, and carpets of wild flowers, and never to meet a soul!
There is a charming near-by Pousada to visit for lunch by a spectacular reservoir (à la “out of Africa” scene!). Also trips to Evora, the attractive town with its important Roman remains and the glorious beach of Comporta were very appreciated. The on-beach restaurants are a must. For golf lovers, there is a fabulous 18-hole course, also near Comporta.
To experience the night-time cacophony of insect and wild-life, fills one with a feeling of peace and utter relaxation. A fantastic get-away from the stress of today’s life.
Peace and quiet in laid back Alentejo
We are frequent travellers and have visited most European countries with our children (and sometimes extended family). Seldom have we found a more complete holiday destination: a beautifully decorated house with all comfort niceties, a fully equipped kitchen, a terrace to die for and a swimming pool with panoramic views over the Alentejo plains. Plus silence, complete privacy, two idle horses and an easy service performed by a discreet couple. The location is perfect too as it is only 90 kms away from Lisbon (we rented a car at Lisbon airport) and not far from World Heritage Évora and Monsaraz, laid back Comporta and its endless coastline where the breeze is gentle and the sand white. This is also an area where wine is grown and gastronomy is particularly good (though slightly on the heavy side....) A kind of haven in the Portuguese "Tuscany". We will definitely come back in the next year or two.
No. No volveremos. Por el dinero que cuesta tienen que avisar del enorme problema que suponen los mosquitos. Una pesadilla de semana.
