Stunning rural location. Sleeps 6-7, ideal for fishing, birdwatching and boating

Approached by a narrow, short lane, beautiful Bank Cottage is but 20 metres from the River Severn. There are spectacular views to be seen across the river and the flood plain opposite, particularly from the patio, lounge and front facing rooms. It's like looking at your own personal Constable picture! Peace and tranquillity.

The cottage is 250 years old, and formerly used by the local ferry man to get people across the river. A number of original features have been kept, adding to its charm. These include exposed oak beams, old style doors with lift-up latches upstairs, and a small inglenook with a log burner in the cosy second lounge at the back of the house.

The garden runs parallel to the river, providing 70 metres of fishing and mooring rights. A jetty has been constructed with safe access down to the water's edge, along with a slipway. Bring your own canoe or small boat!

The cottage and its location are ideal for all wild-life enthusiasts, bird watchers and fishermen. In fact, fishermen could literally cast a line from the balcony if they so wished! You need your own fishing permit. Fishing season is 16 June-16 March. No fishing permitted out of season. Heavy fines and equipment confiscated.

On holiday here, you may want to just sit on the terrace and relax, read, or look at the view, perhaps waving to people on boats as they pass by. It is so peaceful and relaxing.

On the other hand, for those who enjoy exploring new areas, there is a lot of choice. The Malvern Hills are great for walkers and ramblers. Upton upon Severn and Worcester are both only a short drive away. Upton hosts various festivals, including the world renowned Upton Jazz Festival. The historic city of Worcester is well worth a visit. The Three Counties Show ground, only 4 miles away, also hosts many well known annual events. The Morgan car factory is 10 minutes' by car.

It is a 4 bedroom cottage but the fourth bedroom as a locked store room for landlord's needs. The holiday accommodation is arranged as follows:-

Master bedroom ('wow' room as it spectacularly overlooks the river) has a double bed.

The second bedroom is a large room and also overlooks the river and has three single beds. There is a lot of free floor space in this room which would possibly be useful for a cot. We can provide a cot and/or travel cot. We also have a high chair.

The third bedroom, also a large room, has a double bed and a large single sofa bed. There is room for a cot in all bedrooms . There is a large family bathroom with walk in shower cubicle and separate bath. All rooms are furnished to a high standard.

The cottage is advertised as suitable for 6 to 7 people but as you can see, with 6 beds and one sofa bed, there is ample flexibility with the bedding arrangements.

We have a balcony overlooking the river and this is accessed from the 'summer lounge' with its reclining leather suite. This lounge is open plan with the dining room containing a large oak dining table and chairs for 6 people. The kitchen is also open plan to this, and has an island breakfast bar that accommodates seven bar stools, and is fully fitted with all appliances. It also has a utility area, with a washing machine and also a downstairs WC with wash basin. This leads to the second lounge (we call it the 'winter lounge') has an inglenook fireplace with log burner and another reclining leather suite. This is a very cosy room. There is full central heating, and an ample supply of seasoned logs is provided.

There is a large balcony with table and chairs for 8 people. Its proximity to the river and the stunning views makes it one of the the main features of the property. There are also two other patio areas and a large lawn. A gas barbecue is also provided.

There is a TV in each of the two lounges, the kitchen and two of the bedrooms and there is free WIFI access.

There is easy parking for at least four cars.

About Alison Knight

I have been married over 30 and have three children. Our eldest has recently graduated from Plymouth and our son has just started at Hull. Our youngest is about to start studying computing and IT and will start Uni in a couple of years. We live only 20 minutes away from the cottage in Worcester, We are looking after our aged parents and have been finding it difficult to get away on holiday as a group. We have all enjoyed the cottage ourselves for visits, parties and holidays for over a year now. We find that when you leave the City of Worcester you seem to enter another world and we have realised that you do not need to go far to find such peace and beauty.

The cottage possesses stunning rural views, private river access and a jetty for fishing and boating. A slipway has recently been added which gives excellent accessibility to the river. Lots of varied wild life is accessible. An otter has been spotted several times, walking across the decking!!

The cottage was clean, tidy and great attention to detail, scenery stunning, Alison very welcoming, can't fault and already planning to return next year, I never want to stay anywhere else as I doubt it would be anywhere near as perfect !

We where so impressed with this wonderful riverside cottage. We found the location and setting idyllic the amenities and facilities are superb. We couldn't fault the cleanliness and everything is organised and in good working order allowing guests to settle in straight away, just like home from home." Perfect get away

We booked for a short break before Easter with our dog. Alison greeted us on arrival, the house is even better in reality and so well equipped. Waking up to stunning sunrises, enjoying the tranquillity of the location, perfect for walks along the river, or just relaxing in the kitchen. Our stay was idyllic. Can't wait to go back, for a summer break next time.

Superbly equipped and clean cottage set in a unique, idyllic and peaceful location right on river.

Beautiful cottage right on the River Severn that is even better in reality than in the pictures. Well equipped kitchen including double oven cooker that we made full use of. Relaxing views of the river slipping by from lots of the windows. Lots of luxurious touches like really thick, big towels, toiletries and all wood for the stove included. We didn't want to come home!

Wonderful Christmas at this beautiful cottage

This was our second stay at Bank Cottage, we loved it so much last time we brought the family to spend a week over Christmas there. As before, everything was perfect, 4 adults and our granddaughter (9 years old) had a fabulous time. Kitchen, Living room all perfectly equipped to cater for all.

My husband used the fishing platform and caught several large , various fish, much to his delight!

My brother and son went for a 10 mile hike over the Malvern Hills.

My daughter and granddaughter enjoyed sitting by the log fire and toasting marshmallows.

We highly recommend this cottage and the location for a getaway. We hope to be returning over Summer.

A lovely and relaxing weekend away....

What a lovely property. Quiet with some great views of the river and surrounding countryside. Very well equipped.

Clive's fruit farm is a must visit just down the road, a butchery, pick your own fruit, playground and great tea room.

For the fisherman out there the platform is fantastic, big and well built. I caught plenty of Zander up to 8lb, eels, bleak, rudd, roach and perch. The Barbel were elusive but we will be back there next year to try again. Always nice to see active Kingfishers.

This detached beautiful 250 year old cottage, with original oak beams & period features, with spectacular views across the river, makes it ideal for a relaxing peaceful rural holiday.

The cottage was formerly used by the ferry man and is located actually on the river bank, 20 metres from the River Severn. The garden runs parallel with the river and we have 70 metres of fishing and mooring rights. A new jetty has recently been constructed with safe access down to the water's edge. We are in a location of outstanding wildlife and in a select rural location. The opposite bank of the river is the flood plain and there are no buildings easily visible, so there are spectacular rural views across the river which will be ideal for nature-loving people who just want to relax looking at a 'Constable' landscape and watch the boats passing by, and who would like an interesting but restful holiday.

The cottage and its location are ideal for fishermen as you could literally cast a line from the balcony if you wish! All passers-by have told us how lovely the cottage and its surroundings are.

It is the sort of location where you want to just stay and enjoy and possibly won’t want to go and visit anywhere else, but it is located about 4 miles from the Malvern Hills, (voted the second most beautiful place in UK a few years ago) with walks on the hills and rambling easily accessible. We are also 4 miles from Upton which is a vibrant small town hosting various festivals, notably the world renowned Upton Jazz Festival. We are also only 4 miles from the Three Counties Show ground hosting many annual events.

Malvern is 4 miles away with theatres/cinema/winter gardens /swimming pool and the Morgan Car factory which is a very popular place to visit, watching them build cars by hand. Hiking to any of these local places is through spectacularly beautiful countryside.

The historic City of Worcester is 8 miles away with all of the city attractions, Cathedral and County Cricket ground.

We are 22 miles from Cheltenham and this cottage is very popular during the Cheltenham Gold cup & all other local events.

It is a 4 bedroom cottage but we keep the 4th bedroom as a locked store room for our own needs. The beds are arranged as follows:

Master bedroom ('wow ' room as it spectacularly overlooks the River) has a double bed.

The second bedroom is a large room and also overlooks the River and has 2 single beds and a single sofa bed

The third bedroom, also a large room, has a double bed and single sofa bed. There is room for a cot in all bedrooms (not provided, although we have a travel cot for use if requested). There is a large family bathroom with walk in shower cubicle & separate bath. All rooms are furnished to a high standard with wardrobes & sets of drawers/sideboards etc.

The cottage and its location are ideal for fishermen as you could literally cast a line from the Balcony if you wish! We have 70m of fishing rights but remember that all rivers have a closed season from 16th March to 16th June so it is best to book dates accordingly.

We have a jetty with safe access to it so it is ideal if you want to use it as a base for your small boat or canoe activities. Presently we do not provide any boats or other water craft, but it is a good opportunity to bring your own.

The location is spectacular and the rear garden is fenced off, but the closeness to the river means that small children should never be left unattended.

We also reluctantly prefer not to accept pets if possible. Our own dog likes swimming in the river and it is difficult to keep muddy paw prints out of the house. However, we are open to discussion especially for small non-swimming dogs, or where the owner will take responsibility for any mess or damage caused by their pet and are prepared to pay a larger deposit.

The River Severn occasionally floods, but the house last flooded in 1947. When the river is in flood, some of the garden sometimes also floods, Some people may enjoy the experience and the spectacular views! If we were at a very high river level that would cause inconvenience to the guest, we would happily accept cancellation with a full refund option, hopefully with a future rebooking. Occasional elevated river levels occur mostly during the depths of winter, so this is unlikely to be a problem as most people are looking for summer breaks although we make the house available for most of the year.

Visiting by car is essential due to its rural location. The cottage is accessed at the end of an unadopted beautiful tree lined but slightly bumpy driveway which is no problem throughout the year for conventional two wheel drive cars, and we have easy parking and turning for at least 4 cars at the property.

Notes:

  • HISTORIC CONNECTION There has always been a river crossing at the location of the cottage. The river used to be shallow enough to ford here, we believe that persons from as far back as the Iron Age settlements on the Malvern Hills crossed here and joined with what later became the Roman road the 'Foss Way' running north south about a mile or so away on the other side of the river. Also, before the the last battle of the English Civil War, the forces of Cromwell moved from Upton upon Severn where they were on the other side of the river, and forded the river here and then went to Powick. The following day they fought the last battle of the English Civil War at Worcester. They won and routed King Charles I who hid in a tree near Worcester, Oliver Cromwell then introduced democracy to England, which was eventually adopted world wide. Up until 1914 a ferry was operated from the cottage. The ferry man went to fight in the Great War exactly a hundred years ago and never returned.
