About the property

2 Bedrooms, Large Bright Sitting Room, Great Terrace With Wonderful Views

Casa Amendoeira is a newly renovated town house within the historic town walls of Lagos and only a few minutes walk to all amenities and beaches.

It is not the usual 'holiday' accommodation: the Casa has been lovingly restored, furnished and equipped to create a beautiful and comfortable 'home from home' for our guests. Warm colors, paintings by local artists, a gentle hint of Moroccan furnishings and lamps greet the visitor on arrival. The two bedrooms (double and twin/double) are quiet, cozy and have very comfortable beds. The kitchen is well equipped, upstairs is a bright and spacious open plan sitting room with dining area, with a cozy wood fired stove (for the winter months!) and from there outside steps lead from a balcony up to our wonderful 360° view roof terrace which is perfect for relaxing, sunning and 'Al fresco' dining, using our BBQ. Perfect for all year-round sunbathing as Lagos receives over 300 days of brilliant blue skies per year.

That said, the electric power of the Casa Amendoeira is mostly gained from a solar panel on the roof that is able to produce 1700KWh/per year. Further the house is equipped with an A++ washing machine and an A+++ refrigerator and dryer. For keeping you warm in winter, we just installed infrared heaters that are also powered by our solar panels.

About Uta & Marc

We are a couple with two children (17 and 4 years old) living in Germany. Our favorite destination for holidays was the Algarve, so for us the Casa Amendoeira is a dream come true.

Why Uta & Marc chose Lagos Centre

We purchased this house in November 2014, because it is in perfect condition, cozy and lovely. It felt like the perfect home from home for us, so we decided to only change some very small details, like gaining sustainable energy by installing solar panels on the roof and infrared heaters to keep you warm in winter.

What makes this house unique

The roof terrace allows a wonderful view to the ocean and the old city of Lagos. You are really in the city centre, but not in a main street. Therefore the location is quiet but close enough to be in the next good restaurant within 2 minutes. And it will feel good to know, that all energy you need comes from the solar panel on the roof. Go green...

Lagos is the Algarve's loveliest, most historic town and is home to Casa Amendoeira, situated in a typical Portuguese street within the ancient Roman walls of the old town, and thus quiet day and night. We are just off the much beloved 'green tile square', Praca Luis Camoes, and as such within minutes of Lagos' famous daily fish market and its best cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. Within a few minutes walk you are on some of Europe's most romantic beaches, Lagos Old Fishing Port and Harbor, the beautiful award winning Lagos Marina and endless water sports opportunities. Some of the world's best golf courses are within a 10 min car ride. But the best thing is that Lagos is still essentially a thriving, local Portuguese town, with interesting markets, with the old town being a maze of interesting quirky fashion and craft shops. Faro Airport is an easy 50 min car ride away. Easy and free parking near house.

Other Activities: Horse riding, about 20 min car ride away, surfing at the wild west coast with huge atlantic waves about 30 min car ride, diving, kite surfing, hiking (Serra da Monchique, 30 min by car), Sailing, Boattrips (we recommend Bom Dia boat trips), dolphin watching, kayak...

Discover the beaches in the Algarve, choosing either the moderate sea (Lagos direction of Portimao), or the Atlantic side, Vila do Bispo, Carrapateira, Aljezur.

Notes:
The house is very close to all town facilities including hospital, doctor, dentist, chemists. etc..all within short walking distance. A 'House Guide' setting out all facilities, house information and tourist information, is provided to our guests upon arrival. WIFI throughout the house, IPod dock, flat screen TV and CD/Radio available. A 'welcome pack' will be made available on request, at a charge of €10, for late / very early arrivals. This will contain fresh bread, butter, eggs, bacon, marmalade, coffee, tea and milk. Small Children, very elderly or infirm: As the property has several stairs both inside the house and outside leading to the roof terrace we recommend that this property is not suitable for small children, very elderly or infirm.

Wonderful Urban Gem

My husband and I recently returned from our stay in Lagos, Portugal. We can highly recommend Casa Amandoeira. The house has been beautifully renovated and lovingly decorated. The beds are of high quality and super comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well equipped for cooking complete meals. The house is very well located both within the city and within Portugal. It is part of the historic centre very close to many restaurants and an easy, pleasant walk to the waterfront, fish market and small supermarket. You can walk to beautiful beaches right in the city. With a car, there are easy drives to the West coast for wind blown Sagres vistas and more beautiful beaches.

The owners, Uta and Marc, are very approachable and helpful with any questions. There is a local property manager, Ana, who is ready to help for any immediate needs that could arise.

I will echo what some previous reviewers mentioned- there are a lot of stairs. The kitchen is located on the first level you walk up to from the street- with the bedrooms and the bathroom. The living room and dining room are on a separate floor, so you need to carry your dishes up and down a flight of stairs. We got used to this but if there are any mobility issues, it is something to consider.

The rooftop terrace has spectacular views over the city centre and to the waterfront. It is truly a wonderful urban gem in a really fun city. Enjoy!

Great location in magical town

We stayed at Uta and Marc’s four-level apartment during the month of February. The location is fantastic; you can walk to everything (beaches, cliffs, shopping, bus and train stations). The weather was cooler and cloudier than usual so we didn’t get to enjoy the rooftop patio very much but the view is lovely. The kitchen is well-equipped especially with quality butcher knives. The owners provide a comprehensive guide to the unit and Lagos in general. There is a local property manager you can contact if you have issues or questions.

A challenge (for some people) would be the stairs you need to climb. The eating/sitting area is one floor above the main floor, which is one floor above street level. The stairs to the rooftop bbq and table are quite steep and narrow.

This was our first visit to the Algarve and we found Lagos to be an enchanting town filled with friendly people … both the locals and visitors.

Unique and charming apartment in an ideal location

We totally enjoyed our three week stay here. Every detail was exactly as promised online. The home is decorated fabulously and its location makes for excellent access to all things in downtown Lagos. We felt very comfortable here and the local caretaker was very helpful. Had some trouble with Wi-Fi connection the first couple days (it got knocked out with a bad rain/wind storm) but she sent good help right away and I was up and running in no time at all again.

We were there at the end of the height of tourist season so crowds were diminishing with each passing week but we enjoyed that fact very much and were still fortunate to have sunny and warm weather for most of our days.

I highly recommend this property and would love to return there again someday myself.

Excellent property. Ideally placed. Very well equipped.

We have just spent a fabulous week in Lagos staying in this lovely house.

It is just minutes away from all amenities-bars, shops, restaurants, beaches, marina. Couldn't be better placed. It has all the equipment you could need and all information you might need. The roof terrace is a bonus. We used it quite a lot to get a bit of breeze. The temperatures were in the mid 30's for our stay, so it was very welcome. Travelled to Carvalhal beach (up the west coast). Well worth the drive out - beware the waves are very strong. Finally made it to the top of Monchique ( it was misty last visit). Stunning views. Go early and miss the coaches. Another worthwhile trip and not too far away. Batista beach is lovely and only minutes away. Our 3 favourite restaurants were Portofinos at the Marina, Casa do Prago turn right at the bottom of the street and Abrigo to the right from Green Tile Sq. All excellent food at very reasonable prices. But, so many to choose from.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property. It is ideal. I would agree it's not suitable for young children or, perhaps the infirm or elderly (because of the house steps and the hill to the house-short but steep).

Perfect

We have really enjoyed our stay in your lovely house. It has been perfect for us, beautifully decorated, equipped with everything one needs ( even sewing things and first aid kit), centrally located ( only 2-3 minutes to the fish market and the bakers) but as quiet as if in the middle of the country. The roof terrace has be in one of the best positions in Lagos old town, it certainly has a fantastic view - across the town and out to sea - a great place for eating as well. The house and the environment were exactly as described on the net. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby.

We have enjoyed staying in Lagos which is real town not just a holiday town.

We have had a super month away from the cold Northern European winter.

A booking is secured only on receipt of 25% booking deposit of the required rental period. This deposit is non-refundable, because it reserves you the house for the time of your stay. The remaining 75% payment is due clear 4 weeks prior to the stay and not refundable.

A security deposit of €250 is payable with the 75% payment, 4 weeks prior to the stay and will be refunded within 14 days after departure, subject to any deduction for breakage or damage.

Each stay includes an amount of 50 € for use of electricity. Any higher use will be charged and put off the security deposit.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
