La Laurencie is located near a small hamlet only 5 miles from Monpazier, one of France's most beautiful villages, a Bastide village in the Dordogne with history going back to the 13th century. It boasts one of the most beautifully maintained market squares in which there are cafés, bakeries, restaurants, shops and lots of markets and events.

The property is only 35 minutes from Bergerac airport and approximately 2 hours from Bordeaux and Toulouse airports. There are also train stations close by. It is about 7 hours drive from Caen, 6 hours from Paris, 8 hours from Calais.

Monpazier is in the southern Dordogne, a region famous for its food, wine, caves, rivers and scenery. It is rightly well known as one of the most beautiful in France, enhanced by its medieval bastide towns and villages and fairytale châteaux rising from the mist of the River Dordogne.

There are many interesting towns and villages to visit - Beaumont, Issigeac, Villereal, Monflanquin, St Avit Senieur, Belves, Cadouin and of course Bergerac itself - all within each reach for day trips, either by car or on bikes! A little further away are Sarlat, Cahors, Perigueux, Villeneuve sur Lot, Eymet and Duras.

The area is wonderfully equipped for outdoor activities - walking, cycling, horse riding, canoeing and golf. Or for those a bit less sporty, there are vineyards and wine tours, châteaux, pre-historic caves including the world famous Lascaux and gourmet restaurants to visit and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at La Laurencie for two weeks and it is one of the most beautiful places to spend a holiday. The area is really, really picturesque, with lots to see and do. We played golf and tennis, and went for some wonderful bike rides. The house is a lovely, traditional farmhouse but with all mod cons - a really well equipped kitchen, lovely linen on the beds, and the pool is wonderful. We enjoyed lots of long lunches and dinners on the terrace. It's great that there's a covered terrace near the pool for days when it is too hot to eat on the terrace at the front of the house which is not covered. The property is really quiet and peaceful, and very private - the perfect place for relaxing holiday.

Superb, relaxing with great facilities

  • 5 of 5

La Laurencie is the ideal venue for a relaxing family holiday.

The house is beautifully equipped with everything that you would want and more to recharge the batteries. The pool area kept two active 14 year old girls amused when not sunning themselves. Monpazier is undoubtedly one of France's prettiest villages and the trip each morning gave me the excuse to collect fresh bread and croissants whilst enjoying a coffee or two in the square with my book as the village was waking up. Whilst about 5 miles away and mostly uphill my wife managed to run into Monpazier to meet me for an early coffee.

Simon was very easy to deal with and always responded quickly to emails. Although we didn't need it it was comforting to know that there was also local help at hand.

My wife and I have visited the Monpazier area many times in the past, although not for some years. It remains a great place for a break and this property is the perfect base for a holiday which included a days kayaking, typical local markets and great food as well as a days wine buying in the Beregerac area. I could not recommend it highly enough.

Peaceful setting, excellent villa/ farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

The modern, clean, well equipped and comfortable farmhouse is in a perfect setting with the feeling of splendid isolation accessed via a tiny populated hamlet. Worthy of noting is that the property has the opportunity to receive the sun all day into the very late evening (9:30pm at height of summer) in various seating positions around the footprint of the house and land. The heated pool was a wonderful place to relax under the umbrella with a good book from the well stocked bookshelf.

Surrounding villages very pretty such as Monpazier, St Avit S and Cadouin. Dordogne riverbank within 25 mins. Super food and wine available locally as one expects to find in France. You need a car to make the most of the geography.

In error I packed 2 of the ref maps (apologies) helpfully available at the property...oops...so these are now in the post on their way back home...

All in all the perfect week! Thank you

Beautiful farmhouse in idyllic rural setting

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely relaxing time here. The beautiful rural setting was perfect for us with small children - no roads to worry about. Also, the alarmed and fenced pool gave us peace of mind when we weren't in it. The farmhouse is well stocked with everything you could need, and the outdoor dining tables on different terraces gave us options depending on whether we could stand the heat at mealtimes or needed some shade! The housekeeper was really helpful and always on hand and the owner was keen to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay (which is a lot with a 3 and 1 year old!). I would most definitely recommend.

Lovely house near the beautiful town of Monpazier

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed twice, once with a couple of friends and once with our children. What a beautiful place! The house is full of character, and everything is very high quality – from the lovely crisp white bed linen to the well equipped kitchen and the gas barbecue on the terrace. We hired bikes and the kids loved cycling into Monpazier for the baguettes and croissants each morning.

Incredibly peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

La Laurencie is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. I came out with friends to escape the British weather and couldn't believe how beautiful the area is. It was a real bonus to be near Monpazier too - such a pretty town with lovely little shops, some very good restaurants and a great market every Thursday. I have to say we ate and drank very well indeed - and the seven course lunch on the terrace (accompanied by several bottles of wine from the local cave… ) was definitely a highlight! Book me in for next year please!

Fantastic Farmhouse near Monpazier

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time, taking it easy by the pool and lots of long meals on the terrace. The outside space is fantastic – there is a lovely terrace in front of the house where we had breakfast and dinner, and then when it was too hot to eat there at lunch time, there is a lovely covered terrace by the pool. There is lots to do in the area, and we took the opportunity to take the train to Bordeaux – a fantastic cosmopolitan city.
