3 Bedroom Apartment Finished to a Very High Standard 100 Meters from Ski Lift

Apartment Prarion II has been finished to a very high standard and has many additional features and comforts you wouldn’t normally expect to find in a holiday home. The overall feel and appearance is similar to a country hotel. The location is superb for both Summer and Winter with both the Prarion and Bellevue cable cars within easy walking distance.

The ground floor comprises of an entrance hall with space to store winter clothing and boots, a spacious lounge, dining and kitchen area, one of the double bedrooms with a “jack and jill” bathroom with shower cubicle, basin and WC. The kitchen is very well equipped and includes a large American style fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The dining table accommodates 8 and there are 6 comfortable lounge seats around an enclosed log burning fire. Doors from the lounge area lead onto a good sized balcony.

On the first floor, there is a bedroom with a double bed with single bed above and the third double room which has an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin. This floor also has a family sized bathroom with bath tub, basin and WC. The ceilings in the en-suite bedroom and the family bathroom are low in places so anyone who is tall, may prefer to use the bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor.

Fantastic apartment, great location.

We had a fabulous stay in this apartment over New Year. Despite the lack of snow the stay here was helped by the spacious apartment, the comfort of the living area & the convienience of its situation.

The pretty village of Les Houches is located at the foot of the Mont Blanc in the Chamonix valley, 6km from Chamonix town. It has an altitude of between 1000 – 2000 meters and offers 360 degrees of stunning panoramic views across the Haute- Savoie. Each year it is home to the men’s world cup down hill ski race held on the 3km long ‘Kandahar’ ski run. No winter holiday to Les houches would be complete without skiing or boarding down this piste following in the tracks of famous ski racers like Bode Miller and Didier Cuche!

Les Houches is an old village dating back many centuries and it is still a working alpine village today. Much of this old farming history and culture is still here with pastures, farms and old Savoyard chalets dotted along the hillside, giving this quaint little village an authentic rural and rustic French feel.

The ski slopes of Les Houches offer something for everyone. Beginners will enjoy the specially set aside nursery slopes and green runs which allow for safer learning away from the other pistes. Intermediates are spoilt for choice with a wide selection of long open tree lined blue and red runs. And experts won’t be disappointed either, they will love the 2km Kandahar race piste and the acres of wooded off-piste, much of which remains untracked after fresh snowfall far longer than other resorts in the Chamonix Valley. Everyone will enjoy the mountain restaurants in Les Houches, beautiful old farm buildings that serve some of the best traditional Savoie food in the valley.

The ski pass for Les Houches is real value for money and covers the whole area. With 2 main cable cars; the Bellevue and the Prarion from the village, plus 17 ski lifts, 2 Black pistes, 13 Reds, 7 Blues, 4 greens and two set-a-side beginners’ areas, there is more than enough for a one or two weeks holiday. However, those wishing to explore other nearby areas can purchase the ‘Mont-Blanc Unlimited’ ski pass which will allow you to ski in the whole of the Chamonix Valley (see our About Chamonix page).

Winter here isn’t limited to down hill skiing and snowboarding though. There are over 15km of marked cross country ski tracks and endless snowshoe trails through the high open forests. And if your feel a little more energetic you could try your hand a speed riding, a cross between paragliding and skiing….not for the faint hearted!

During the summer the Les Houches pistes are given back to the local farmers and they become alive with alpine flowers and the sound of cow bells. It is an ideal base for outdoor activities and there are miles of well marked foot paths, ranging from easy strolls along rivers and forests trails to high mountain walking up to glacial view points and lofty peaks. And don’t forget a ride back down on the ‘tramway Du Mont Blanc’ at well over 100 years old it is one of the oldest mountain railways in the Alps. Les Houches is also the start for many people attempting to climb Mont Blanc and the cable car in the centre of the village runs from early in the morning whisking climbers and walkers up the hill side. For faster paced mountain bikers, there are also plenty of dedicated down hill mountain biking trails that are marked and separate to walking paths, plus a large area with a biker-cross circuit for practicing your jumps and tricks.

Being on the border of Italy and Switzerland there is more than enough to do for a non mountain sport holiday. A visit to the Haute-Savoie wouldn’t be complete without a day out in Geneva or Annecy where you can walk round the old medieval towns, visit the Châteaux’s and enjoy lunch on the lake side. Then spend a lazy afternoon wandering the cosmopolitan shopping districts looking for that special holiday treat. For real pampering and relaxing there are several hot water spas in both Italy, just 20 minutes away and in Switzerland, which is 40 minutes away.
