A Hidden Retreat In A Stunning Wester Ross Sea Loch Location. Pet Friendly.

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
A 3 Bed, 2 Bathroom Former Crofting Cottage With Mountain And Sea Loch Views.

Macdonald Cottage sits in a superb sheltered waterside position above and overlooking Loch Kishorn, with stunning views to Glen Shieldaig and the Applecross Peninsular. The Northwest of Scotland, Wester Ross in particular, is renowned for its dramatic scenery; breathtaking hills; secluded sea lochs; mature forests and wonderful beaches. The climate is balmy thanks to the warm currents of the Gulf Stream.

The cottage offers cosy accommodation for families or couples wanting to get away from it all in a unique and remote setting, affording views of the loch and rolling mountains from nearly every aspect.

The cottage has two double bedrooms and one twin room with two single beds. The master double has it's own en-suite shower, with under-floor heating. There is also a spacious bathroom with a roll-top bath and views of the surrounding mountains!

With two sitting rooms, one with an open fire and one with a multi-fuel stove, and a spacious kitchen breakfast room with an Aga and an electric cooker for the summer months, the cottage is well equipped with all of the amenities to make your stay a truly home from home experience.

The area is ideal for painters who like peace and beauty, but there is also plenty of boating, walking, cycling and other leisure and sporting activities to enjoy, if desired. For advanced climbers, Liathach and the Torridon mountain range is only a few miles up the road. There is a sailing club at nearby Lochcarron. Fishing on the River Carron, Loch Damph and other notable lochs, as well as stalking can be taken from local estates. Loch Kishorn is the southern boundary of the 70,000 acre nature reserve of the Applecross Peninsular, which is also famous for the highest road pass in Scotland, the Bealach na Ba, and recently for Monty Halls Great Escape adventure in 2008.

The village of Kishorn has a small shop and seafood restaurant which is seasonal, otherwise Lochcarron provides a larger range of general local amenities including a post office, butcher and award-winning Spar grocery and general provisions shop, garages and a hotel. The popular tourist destinations of the Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton have a wider range of shops and services. There is a train and bus service to Inverness and Inverness airport, which is otherwise approximately an hour and a half by car.

THE BEST EVER

  • 5 of 5

This holiday cottage is so much more than a holiday cottage! It's so comfortable and relaxing, the big windows in the sunroom and dining area mean that if the weather is bad you can still be in the outdoors and watch it all happening across the Applecross hills while staying cosy and warm, or if like in our case, you're in need of some rest and recuperation you don't need to feel as though you're missing out when you stay in.

The best stocked cupboards we've ever known in a holiday cottage meaning you don't have to buy a huge bottle of olive oil to use for a few days and waste the rest, and much much more... if you find yourself arriving hungry before you've done a shop you'd be able to make a great scrap meal with whatever you can find in there. We left our leftover dry goods behind for the next guests - great system!

Collette was a pleasure, we spoke to her on the phone and via text and she's such a lovely person! We wish her well.

We were really in need of a restful escape and this place was just perfect. Thank you Collette! We'd love to return one day.

Amazing holiday home in a fantastic location. Well equipped and comfy

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay here in September. The cottage is spacious, bright and well equipped. We had cosy evenings by the fire or eating out nearby.

There are great views out into the loch (which is at the end of the garden!). You can walk from the cottage it explore further afield easily.

Would happily stay here again and Collette was great in the lead up with good communication and tips

Thanks!

Wonderful house, great location, outstanding owner

  • 5 of 5

From reservation to deposit refund, this was the best VRBO experience we've ever had on three continents. The house is clean, comfortable, well stocked with kitchen supplies, games, and area books and fliers. The cottage is sited in a great location for day trips to Isle of Skye and other points around Scotland or snuggling in for the day with a good book around the fire. Collette quickly responded to answer our questions and concerns to our satisfaction during the rental process, while we were in residence for a week and afterward with a quick full refund of our deposit. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this property again and enjoy yet another week in Collette's good care while enjoying this wonderful area of the world.

This house was without a doubt the nicest house we stayed in on a three-week journey to Europe and

McDonald's cottage was perfect for our family of four: two children and two adults. The children felt free to run around the yard and the beach and the village, and we all enjoyed the immaculately clean but friendly, cozy, and well-equipped house. The views were amazing, all the appliances worked, and the kitchen was everyone's favorite room. Finally, Collette was very sweet and extremely accessible whenever I had a question. We stayed almost a week and cooked a lot on the lovely Aga stove, but also enjoyed the restaurants in Lochcarron, the Kishorn Seafood bar, and the café Bealach nearby. All in all it was a fantastic trip and the core of it was this beautiful house.

Wonderful 3 night stay

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is truly stunning, immaculate on arrival, spacious, warm, high quality and comfortable beds and bedding, excellent fully equipped kitchen, utility, bathrooms, plenty soaps provided and we could have stayed there for a lot longer than the three days to attend my brothers wedding 200 meters up the road in Achintraid ! Beautiful garden and views into the bargain. Owner Collette couldn't have been more kind and helpful. Thank you so much Collette. Hope to be back one day!

Home from home with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we loved the cottage. It really feels like you have stepped into home!

The kitchen is warm and welcoming with the lovely Aga, and everything you could want in the cupboards. It was very well equipped (quite possibly the best equipped cottage we have ever been to!). Lovely and cosy and always warm, although it was very cold outside.

The view from the big back windows over the loch towards the hills of Applecross is stunning. It was very difficult to leave to go out for the day! But there are lots of beautiful views and walks in the surrounding area should you so want to.

For provisions there is a brilliant small shop in Loch Carron, which is surprisingly well stocked. It is very easy to get anywhere as the cottage is a few minutes from the one main road through the area.

The garden is lovely, and it was fantastic having our own personal beach (although the steps down are not for the less able). The loch has beautifully clear water and we saw lots of otters. Lovely to sit on the beach, enjoy the complete silence (apart from the sounds of birds) and the water lapping at the shore.

Collette, the owner, was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

To sum up, a perfect cottage, clean, cosy, great views, quiet location - everything you could ask for in a holiday! We hope to return someday.
