Macdonald Cottage sits in a superb sheltered waterside position above and overlooking Loch Kishorn, with stunning views to Glen Shieldaig and the Applecross Peninsular. The Northwest of Scotland, Wester Ross in particular, is renowned for its dramatic scenery; breathtaking hills; secluded sea lochs; mature forests and wonderful beaches. The climate is balmy thanks to the warm currents of the Gulf Stream.
The cottage offers cosy accommodation for families or couples wanting to get away from it all in a unique and remote setting, affording views of the loch and rolling mountains from nearly every aspect.
The cottage has two double bedrooms and one twin room with two single beds. The master double has it's own en-suite shower, with under-floor heating. There is also a spacious bathroom with a roll-top bath and views of the surrounding mountains!
With two sitting rooms, one with an open fire and one with a multi-fuel stove, and a spacious kitchen breakfast room with an Aga and an electric cooker for the summer months, the cottage is well equipped with all of the amenities to make your stay a truly home from home experience.
The area is ideal for painters who like peace and beauty, but there is also plenty of boating, walking, cycling and other leisure and sporting activities to enjoy, if desired. For advanced climbers, Liathach and the Torridon mountain range is only a few miles up the road. There is a sailing club at nearby Lochcarron. Fishing on the River Carron, Loch Damph and other notable lochs, as well as stalking can be taken from local estates. Loch Kishorn is the southern boundary of the 70,000 acre nature reserve of the Applecross Peninsular, which is also famous for the highest road pass in Scotland, the Bealach na Ba, and recently for Monty Halls Great Escape adventure in 2008.
The village of Kishorn has a small shop and seafood restaurant which is seasonal, otherwise Lochcarron provides a larger range of general local amenities including a post office, butcher and award-winning Spar grocery and general provisions shop, garages and a hotel. The popular tourist destinations of the Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton have a wider range of shops and services. There is a train and bus service to Inverness and Inverness airport, which is otherwise approximately an hour and a half by car.
This partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
MacDonald cottage exceeded our expectations. The cottage was clean with good quality furnishings and plenty of fuel for the fire. The AGA in the kitchen was a huge bonus.
The cottage is a great base for exploring the Wester Ross coastal trail. There are plenty of great bike rides to do and if you are a keen runner then there are some magnificent runs both off and on road. Good eateries such as The Applecross Inn, The Torridon and The fantastic Plockon Inn are within a reasonable 40 minute drive. There are closer eateries too however the three mentioned are note worthy.
Communication from the owner was good and we would definitely return.
We had a lovely time in this house; it absolutely lived up to the website details. We were comfortable throughout and the sun room and kitchen were particular highlights of our time indoors. The house is especially homely, with the practice of guests leaving useful cupboard supplies a good way to avoid the potentially clinical feel of some holiday lets. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
This cottage is in a lovely setting by the loch side with wonderful views of the Applecross hills. The cottage is roomy with two small living rooms a sun lounge and dining area which allows guests to 'spread out' . Nice kitchen with AGA, which was surprisingly easy to use. Minus points living room and sun room furniture a bit 'tired'. This was a shame as the sun lounge had views 'to die for'. But wicker chairs old and uncomfortable. Lots of food left by previous guests. Great in some ways to get people started - but far too much some out of date - needs a good clear out with older items thrown away. Kitchen utensils and cutlery not so good or plentiful as in most other cottages we've stay in. husband very bothered with allergies in the house so future guests please note that well behaved dogs/cats allowed (we missed this in the info). Nevertheless this is a nice cottage in great spot with garden extending to the loch. lots of great walking and a lovely place for a relaxing holiday.
All four seasons every hour throughout our week. So many places to go and things to do. One high point was looking across to the dreich and mist covered horseshoe bowl of the Bealach Na Ba and finding it completely filled with a rainbow – pure magic!
We cannot put into words how fantastic this gem of a house is! We spent Christmas and new year here and what lovely time we had too! This cottage had literally everything you need for a comfortable stay, just like home from the moment we walked in. If you want peace and tranquility this is the place to come. Fantastic wildlife too, red deer, seals, mountain hares, golden eagles the list goes on, a photographers paradise. Collette couldn't have been any more helpful throughout. We would return here in a heartbeat so thanks again!
This holiday cottage is so much more than a holiday cottage! It's so comfortable and relaxing, the big windows in the sunroom and dining area mean that if the weather is bad you can still be in the outdoors and watch it all happening across the Applecross hills while staying cosy and warm, or if like in our case, you're in need of some rest and recuperation you don't need to feel as though you're missing out when you stay in.
The best stocked cupboards we've ever known in a holiday cottage meaning you don't have to buy a huge bottle of olive oil to use for a few days and waste the rest, and much much more... if you find yourself arriving hungry before you've done a shop you'd be able to make a great scrap meal with whatever you can find in there. We left our leftover dry goods behind for the next guests - great system!
Collette was a pleasure, we spoke to her on the phone and via text and she's such a lovely person! We wish her well.
We were really in need of a restful escape and this place was just perfect. Thank you Collette! We'd love to return one day.
