About the property

Beautifully fitted one double bedroom flat in the heart of London

This enchanting apartment, fitted out to a very high standard (like a high quality hotel suite, only lovelier), is perfect for a couple or a single person and works well for holidays, short breaks, or for business-visitors. A third person can be accommodated on a small sofa-bed which will be very comfortable for a person up to 170 cm (5'6'') tall.

This apartment is on the first floor (one storey above street level) of a lovely Victorian townhouse, built in 1846. The staircase leading to the apartment is seventeen steps, with a landing after the first thirteen. The neat accommodation comprises an open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room, with ‘Smart’ TV and Apple Box. Unlimited wireless broadband is provided, as well as pre-paid access to Netflix. Making the most of every inch of space, there is a small desk area, a two-seater sofa and a comfortable armchair, as well as a dining table that can fold out to accommodate six people for a dinner party. There are a range of different lighting choices, to suit every mood and need. Linen is provided for both the main bed and the sofa-bed, as are towels, face cloths, toiletries and a welcome pack of groceries.

The kitchen/dining area, which has underfloor heating to complement the apartment’s gas-fired central heating system, is fitted with every modern convenience, all of high standard: refrigerator, freezer, stove, ovens, microwave, extractor fan system, kettle, toaster. Plenty of high quality cookware and tableware is provided; and if you don’t feel like cooking, there are bakeries and a wealth of restaurants literally round the corner.

The bathroom is small but perfectly fitted, with a powerful shower over the bath and atmospheric lighting. A separate utility area houses a washer-dryer and laundry baskets, iron and ironing board.

The delightful bedroom is quietly situated at the back of the apartment (in fact, there's not much noise from the street at the front of the apartment, either). The bedroom contains a full-sized bed for two people (5’0” or 150 cm wide - called a Queen in the US and a King in the UK) made up with high quality bedding. There is ‘mood’ lighting, a phone-charger/radio/alarm clock, drawers for underwear and a well-lit dressing table area and, in the adjacent small hall, plenty of wardrobe and storage space. A hairdryer is provided.

From the bedroom, a door leads out onto a charming sun-trap private deck, with table, chairs and barbecue – perfect for outside dining on a summer evening.

Cleaning and maintenance are to the highest standard. This is a real home-from-home with every detail attended to by the owners, who keep a sharp eye on the whole operation.

The street in which the house is located is the most highly-sought-after in the area: small, quiet and as pretty as a picture. The local district, Pimlico (in Westminster), is one of London’s most acclaimed ‘villages’, with a pleasant local feel and a wonderful array of shops and restaurants yet in the heart of this great city. The location is unmatched in London. You can walk from this apartment to most of the main tourist attractions (see LOCALITY on this web-page), or go jogging along the Thames, which is just five minutes’ walk away and find yourself in the green spaces of Battersea Park, with its ‘peace pagoda’ rising up beside the water. Bikes can be hired in the area, and if you bring your own bikes, these can be stored in the basement (ask us).

The property is a few minutes’ walk from excellent supermarkets, some of them open 24/7 and the transport links are amazing. There are taxis galore and you are two minutes’ walk from the nearest Underground (‘Tube’) station (Pimlico- Victoria Line) and one minute from the best bus in London (the No24, which carries you past the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, No 10 Downing Street – the residence of the Prime Minister – and Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, on its short ride into the West End). Victoria Mainline Station and Victoria Coach Station are both 10 minutes’ walk away, providing quick and easy links to all airports and the overground rail network, as well as car-hire collection and drop-off points (parking is free in the street over the weekend and garaging is nearby). For drivers, there is easy access to the A3, leading out of London. For visitors from Europe, St Pancras Station (where the Eurostar ‘docks’) is a 10 minute direct tube ride away, from Pimlico Underground Station.

About Adrienne Burgess

We are a couple who have worked mainly in the theatre and the arts, although Adrienne is now a writer/researcher specialising in fatherhood and Martin works as a communications coach. We have been renting out properties for almost 40 years.

Adrienne Burgess purchased this apartment in 1983

Why Adrienne Burgess chose Pimlico

This was actually the first apartment that Adrienne and Martin ever owned! it was Martin's to start with. He knew the moment he walked into it that it was for him: light, compact, well laid out and situated in the best street in this delightful district.

What makes this apartment unique

The remarkable thing about 'Pimlico' (the area in which this lovely apartment is situated), is that it is quite like a village, and yet it is right in the heart of perhaps the greatest city in the world. Neighbours know each other; the three intersecting streets that make up 'the Moretons' (also known as the Moreton Triangle) contain many family houses and have an active residents' association, the people in the shops are friendly, and yet the district is cosmopolitan and exciting. In Pimlico you can be peaceful, yet never feel that life is passing you by. . .

Delightful one double bedroom flat, Zone 1 in Central London

Wonderful flat in a fab location

  • 5 of 5

This flat has everything and it is all maintained to the highest standard. I spent a very comfortable week here at the start of September. The street is 3 minute walk from Pimlico tube and about a 10 minute walk from Victoria. The neighborhood is full of grocery shops, pubs and restaurants but the actual street is residential and quiet as a churchyard. The shower is especially nice with high pressure and as hot as you want it. Lots of cupboard space for storage of your clothes, suitcases, etc.

Lovely stay in a perfect neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

The details were complete and instructions top notch from descriptions of the property to functions of every amenity and check in/check out procedures and expectations.

This was a cosy and spotlessly clean apartment with easy access to bus and tube stops. Wonderful neighborhood with great restaurants and pubs. Already missing it!

Ideal apartment for a week in London

  • 5 of 5

A great location for everything we wanted to do and see: Museums (National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate Modern), the Globe Theater, and cruise up the Thames to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. We appreciated the comforts and thoughtful provisions, including suggestions for restaurants, transportation, and activities. This is a neighborhood of wonderful restaurants - we especially enjoyed Grumbles (a 50 year old tradition with fantastic food) and Seafresh.

Adequate flat well located

  • 3 of 5

Nice place, clean, orderly, quiet and well located near the bus and Tube, simple to get anywhere important. Pleasant small terrace out back. Small and awkwardly cramped bath and bedroom, adequate closet space, 20 or so narrow steps up to the place hard with suitcases.

Not "exquisite" but adequate, better than a hotel room of similar cost.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that your expectations were not, apparently, well managed. We are very clear in our property description that this apartment is small (like a very neat hotel suite) and that it is situated on the first floor of a Victorian house, NOT on the ground floor. We have now added to our description the exact number of steps up - and pointed out that there is a landing after the main flight of stairs (pictured in our photos). Perhaps you did not read the description properly? We are glad you feel that the apartment is clean, orderly, quiet, well located, and less costly than equivalent hotel accommodation. That has been our objective. We are so pleased that virtually all our other ratings are Five Star, and that we have a huge amount of repeat business. Thank you for your comments..

Well-managed, conveniently located and quiet

  • 4 of 5

Everything was very nice and comfortable. The one deficiency was the lack of a light blanket for the bed. The doona was way too hot.

With its amazing CENTRAL London location (SW1V 2NP - Google it!), this quietly situated apartment is brilliantly positioned right in the heart of London for a see-all London visit.

It’s a minute's WALK from shops, supermarkets, restaurants, outdoor food-market, Pimlico Tube (underground) & 24-hour taxis, buses, car clubs, bike hire.

Fitness facilities are available at a number of locations within five minutes' walk (including at the Queen Mother Sports Centre). It’s a 10-min WALK to an intimate, brand new three-screen cinema and major theatres (currently WICKED and BILLY ELLIOT are running), as well as to the River Thames, Buckingham Palace, Tate Britain, Lambeth Palace, Westminster Cathedral, M16, Mi5, St James Park, Victoria Station & Victoria Coach Station (from which there are easy rail/coach links to Heathrow, Gatwick & Europe). And 15 minutes to the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, No 10 Downing Street , the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre and all the key government department buildings in this great city.

It’s a 20-min WALK to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, the King's Road/Chelsea. Short tube/bus rides take you direct to Harrods, the major Museums in South Kensington (or you can walk to them in 40 minutes), to Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, the West End, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, the National Gallery, the Imperial War Museum, the Festival Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe, the National Theatre & National Film Theatre, Hayward Gallery, IMAX, Waterloo Station, Tate Modern.

Local activities include fitness facilities, shopping and restaurants, (a fantastic selection), London bus tours and river boats. There’s an excellent health food shop and a public swimming pool/ fitness complex within five minutes’ walk, and you can jog through the backstreets up to St James’ Park (in front of Buckingham Palace) which then adjoins Green Park, or head south along the river for ten minutes to reach the wide open spaces of Battersea Park.

Victoria Mainline Station, just ten minutes’ walk from the house, has long been the stepping-off-point for Europe - and the magnificent Orient Express still leaves from there. During the two world wars, soldiers traveled from Victoria to the continent. The district then was full of small shops where tailors and seamstresses adapted uniforms to fit. Today, some of those shops remain – but now they’re haute-couture.
