NEW - Cosy, traditional cottage, Quiet location between Dingle and KiIlarney

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Dec-2016
Wild Cherry Cottage has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and sleeps seven people

Wild Cherry Cottage is a completely original 19th century Irish cottage which has been lovingly and sympathetically renovated and completely restored in the last year or so. It comprises the original slate floors, wooden beams and original fireplace. It is situated in its own grounds of mixed shrubs, trees, lawn and woods, comprising just under an acre. It provides a perfect getaway from the noise and stress of modern city living, with birdsong abound. It also has a large enclosed garden and a section of woods where children can play happily and safely.

The cottage is located in a small hamlet on the lower slopes of the Slieve Mish mountains which provide the 'backbone' to the Dingle Peninsula. There are wonderful walks from the door of the cottage and there are views of Carrantoul, Ireland's highest mountain, and the Magillicuddy Reeks mountain range from the garden. However, civilization is not far away and Castlemaine, the local village, can provide a choice of four pubs, a restaurant and a few shops, a post office and a gym. Live music can be heard at the weekends. Killarney, the National Park and the Ring of Kerry is only 20 minutes drive away and Dingle town itself - a 35 min drive in the other direction - a perfect location for those who wish to experience both areas - and you Must!

The cottage itself exudes 'olde worlde' charm and has two large double bedrooms, one of which features a beautiful four poster bed that the owners had made whilst in Sri Lanka. The living room, with its large open fireplace, is a very cosy and comfortable place to spend the evenings and the conservatory is ideal for catching the morning sun and for eating in in the evening. A bright 'roomy' kitchen with a large rangemaster cooker , dishwasher and views over the garden completes the original part of the cottage. Next to that is the old attached stone 'cow shed' which has now been converted into two bathrooms and two further bedrooms. Both bathrooms have toilets and one boasts a bath whilst the other a shower.

Location

From the Owner

Wild Cherry Cottage is a ‘one off’ experience. It combines ‘history’ with the ‘present day’, offering an experience of staying in a traditional Irish farmhouse cottage whilst also enjoying all the comforts of modern day life. Its location allows easy access to most of Kerry’s best known attractions, being equidistant between the towns of Killarney and Dingle, and also the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Way. It is near where the Slieve Mish mountains meet the sea and both are no more than a five minute drive away (indeed you can walk up the Slieve Mish mountains from the cottage door).

Facilities

From the Owner

There are not too many traditional Irish farmhouses left in Kerry, let alone one that is in fantastic shape and which has all the modern amenities that one would expect of a high quality rental cottage. Wild Cherry Cottage is a real ‘one-off’! The slate floors, old beams and pitched ceilings give the cottage an air or 19th century originality and authenticity whilst the large original open fireplace provides the cosy feel to the living room. Large bedrooms, one with a four poster bed, provide ample space for a large family group and the privacy and quietness offered by the large well maintained garden, with its mature trees, lawn and terrace creates a wonderful homely and private feel to the whole place. The cottage has been decorated so as to accentuate the original features as well as providing light and warmth. An additional south west facing conservatory , off the main living room, gives additional space for relaxation and as a possible dining area.
