The house is a large, 4 bedroom family home incorporating 2 king rooms (one en-suite), a double bedroom and a large room with two single beds. There is the option to convert the ground floor sung into a bedroom to with a double sofa bed to accommodate up to 10.
The grand lounge has a wood burning stove, reading corner and stunning views of the moor, ocean and village.
The dining room has a large, solid wood, 12 seater dining table made from the reclaimed railway sleepers from St. Pancras station when it was renovated to make room for the EuroStar terminal.
The kitchen is large and modern and there is a utility area and internal drying space for clothes or wet walkers/fisherman/adventurers.
The large, gallery hallway, is also a great space to grab a book and read in silence.
All our bedrooms and our dining room and snug are equipped with digital HD televisions.
There is a large bathroom with a walk in shower and slipper bath which also looks out over the ocean and loch.
There is a toilet located on the ground floor as well.
Outside the property there are 4 distinct garden zones. There is the large lawn suitable for a whole host of your own sports adventures or relaxing in the sun and breathing in the refreshing sea air.
There is a fenced area which acts as a sun trap on warm days. It includes a rare example of a Monkey Puzzle tree, our kennels and wood store and the designated smoking area (our property is non-smoking throughout including e-cigarettes).
Then there is our vegetable patch. Here we grow our own potatoes, carrots, herbs and rhubarb. If there is any in season we will see what we can do for you!
Finally there is the old croft. This area, uniquely preserved, has the ruins of old croft buildings that you can explore and also, usually, has a friendly sheep or two that would enjoy a slide of toast in the morning or, their favourite, a donut (plain!).
We do allow dogs but we do restrict them to certain parts of the property eg the kennels, garage, utility area, kitchen and dining area.
The house is the perfect place to leapfrog into an amazing island holiday away from the hustle and bustle of life. You will feel the total relaxation and isolation our house offers you.
Strategist and business consultant my family's roots are in the wilds of north west Scotland on this island. With roots in Clan MacLeod I bought this property so that everyone, especially families, can enjoy the setting I had as a kid to grow up in.
Mac Walker purchased this house in 2014
Very nice and comfortable house, perfect for getting together with our family and friends. The Outer Hebrides are captivating and this was the perfect place for us to experience them.
This is a wonderful house in a fabulous location - views are amazing.
The house has every thing you could possibly need and is a home from home!
Mac is a pleasure to deal with and we would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful house for your stay in Lewis. We will certainly be back.
We had an amazing family holiday on this beautiful island. This property was fabulous! Accommodation exceptional - comfortable with everything anyone would require.
The house provided plenty room for our family to gather together and our dog was welcomed too. The area provided for him was more than adequate and close to the rest of the family.
The owner has thought of everything needed for comfort and the house is beautifully furnished and appointed.
It's in a great location on the island for exploring North and South and a day trip to Harris is only a drive away.
We would certainly recommend this property and location and will look to book again in the future.
Thanks for everything! We've fallen in love with Lewis!
The experience of renting Mac's Brue home was a pleasure from the start. Before we arrived communication was excellent and very professional. When we arrived we were met by Macs father who showed us around and told us all we needed to know. We have found the house to be every bit as lovely as the pictures, very tastefully decorated with quality furniture and fittings. There is enough space and separate rooms with things to do for those occasional rainy days! My kids have loved the TVs.... One big surprise was what the pictures don't show.... the beautiful sea and moor views that the property enjoys. All the rooms make the most of the fantastic location giving plenty to look at (surfers catching the waves off Barvas beach) as well as providing plenty of light.... I've never experienced a better view whilst taking a shower before! It really has been a perfect home from home which the whole family really enjoyed.
A lovely house, beautiful and tasteful decor. Attention to detail.
Everything we needed was there. Wood for the stove fire which was needed on a few evenings.
The kitchen had everything in it . It was home to home.
Welcoming package with lovely local goodies, biscuits, tea ,coffee. It was such a nice touch and made you feel welcome in the home.
The house was spotless and clean.
The views were to die for and a wonderful beach to walk on near by.
Lots of local attractions to drive too. Driving was fun and there was so much to see.
We did cook at the house most evenings and Stornaway just ten minutes away had a supermarket open late and I have to say incredibly inexpensive, selling wonderful local meat.
The owners father was very pleasant and welcoming and available to us any time.
Also the Neighbours were lovely, we did run out of sugar one day.
The only thing that is not clearly stated when booking is if you are bringing dogs. It does state it is dog friendly but it doesn't make clear that the dogs are ONLY allowed in the kitchen and no where else.
This was a bit of a problem for us as we drove from the continent with our dogs and they are absolutely not used to being locked up in a room at night without us. This did lead to quite a few sleepless nights. So i think it may be better to either state this very clearly before one books or maybe not allow dogs at all. I do understand why there were restrictions as the house is so beautiful and one wants to keep it clean.
Apart from that we loved our stay so much and would highly recommend it to anyone. It was a perfect holiday in a perfect location and house.
We would happily return there again.
We found the house no problem following directions given by owners and met on arrival to be given "the tour". The house is certainly 5* ....furnished and decorated to a very high standard. We would definately recommend the house to all of our friends and we hope to visit again in a couple of years....Mac even organised blue skies and warm weather for our two days.....FANTASTIC. Thanks for all the communications prior to our stay and for allowing us to stay in your beautiful house....and for returning our deposit straight after our departure.
