VILLA LORETO 6 sleeps, villa with park, pool, tennis table, porch and much more

Updated: 04-Oct-2016
3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

RECEPTIVE STRUCTURE. Villa Loreto is the result of the salvage and recent restoration of an old, 19th century farmhouse which the owners' respect for the original materials and their love of hospitality have turned into the charming home that it is today. Handmade terracotta from Vetriolo; basalt stone; clading, exposed beams, window and door fittings in chestnut wood; furniture, crockery and ornaments, both antique and ethnic; hand-made tapestries: all this immerses the visitor in the warmth of an old-time home and puts him at ease while the three hectares of park and woodland cradle him during his stay, dedicated to relaxation and tranquillity. The porch, shaded by centuries-old trees, is set up for convivial meals and parties, accompanied by the flavours and scents of the vegetable garden. The view of Civita di Bagnoregio, seen from the pool, anticipates the scenery and splendour that this magnificent area of upper Lazio offers. The area around the villa is suitable for excursions on foot, horseback or on mountain bike amongst gullies and streams in enchanted landscapes; the geographical location constitutes an ideal departure point for important and popular tourist destinations. Villa Loreto is close to Umbria and Tuscany, in the heart of those lands where history, art, culture and beautiful scenery continue to thrill.

Villa Loreto has two floors. The main entrance leads directly into the kitchen which, with its fireplace, is the dynamic heart of the villa. On the right an archway leads to the master bedroom with bathroom with shower and a separate entrance while a second archway leads to the stairs going up to the first floor; a glass door opposite the entrance leads into the living room which leads directly to the pool. On the first floor are a twin bedroom with joinable beds, a bathroom with shower and a double bedroom. Exiting the main entrance, to the right, is the porch, perfect as a relaxation area and as an outdoor dining area as it is next to the kitchen.

The property stands in a 30,000 sq m, fully enclosed, park consisting of wooded areas and terraces with olive trees, fruit trees and ornamental plants around the villa. The 100 organic olive trees (in mill and leccino varieties) produce an extra virgin olive oil of excellent quality while the apple, cherry, apricot, black currant and lemon trees and the produce from the vegetable garden provide a whole range of flavours that cannot lack on summer tables. The 1000 sq m lawned garden, which includes the pool, is full of roses, hydrangeas, lavender, bay, rosemary, hibiscus, holly, petunias, iris, bamboo and a palm tree. A shiny laurel hedge, centuries-old European and blue spruces, chestnut and oak trees provide large shaded areas in the immediate vicinity of the villa. You can stroll around the property down stone steps and along paths that lead to a chicken run, where a cockerel and two peacocks rule the roost, and to an annex with a large corner fireplace and laundry room at the guests' disposal. A parking area is just inside the gate, about 60 m from the main entrance; it is also possible to drive up to the main entrance in order to unload people and things before parking the car.

Swimming Pool

The rectangular pool measures 10 x 5 m with a constant depth of 1,5 m; it is surrounded by basalt stone paving (the typical lava stone of Bagnoregio) which separates it from the sunbathing area on the lawn provided with deckchairs, sunbeds, umbrellas and tables. Internal and external lighting, together with the easy access from the living room, allow you to enjoy the pool area in the evening and at night as well. The pool is set on the same level of the villa which is about 10 m away. It is lined in blue PVC and has a ladder for access to the water. There is an outdoor cold-water shower. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday of October.

The sandblasted red brick colour of Villa Loreto stands out against the dark green woodland and the yellow ocher of the Valle dei Calanchi dominated by Civita di Bagnoregio, the old 'Balneum regis.' This is a borgo of unique charm, founded by the Etruscans 2500 years ago and standing imposingly on a tuff mound, with vast banks of clay as its base and subject to erosion which causes the gradual and inexorable destruction; this is why it is called 'the dying town'. A recently rediscovered gem, it is the destination of interesting cultural, artistic and gastronomic events. A few kilometres away is the Lake of Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, suitable for swimming and teeming with fish, with charming villages along its shore banks like Bolsena, Marta, Capo di Monte and Gradoli; Montefiascone, home of the wine Est Est Est!, connected to other towns of Tuscia through the Wine and Oil Route; Orvieto with its cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture; Viterbo, the papal city with the Quartiere di San Pellegrino, the famous Macchina di Santa Rosa and the Terme dei Papi; the Park of Monsters in Bomarzo; Todi, a gem! In little more than an hour you can reach Rome and in two, Florence and Siena. Closer to Villa Loreto are: Sorano, Pitigliano, Sovana and Saturnia, towns famous for Etruscan architecture and remains, fine wine, local products and sulphurous waters. And then there's the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Tarquinia, Montalto and Capalbio.
