Or for the even larger family holiday you can combine the farmhouse & barn together sleeping between 10 – 12 comfortably.

Originally the hub of a hazelnut plantation, the villa is surrounded by fields, trees and gorges which create a landscape where there is a different view around every corner. The twisting and sometimes steep country lanes are variously cut into the rock, bridged over ravines and simply bordered by rolling fields.

It’s the ideal location for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. The area, part of the Alta Langa, is famous for its' medieval castles, wines, cheeses, gourmet food including truffles, and of course, hazelnuts – many of which are grown for Ferrero and enjoyed throughout the world.

Fabulous Italy Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

All three couples enjoyed a relaxing and perfect holiday in Bergolo.

Your hosts will make sure you are connected for great places to eat, vineyards to visit, and more.

Kitchen was well laid out, beds cozy and comfortable.

We all enjoyed our stay, the location and the hospitality were five star!

A fabulous villa, in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

A friend and I spent a week at Villa Bergolo and discovered it was every bit as beautiful as it seems on the pictures... in fact, it was even better.

From the pool, which from experience is larger than at many villas, and the various loungers and sunshades around it; to the multiple terraces you have to choose from, with each equipped with a range of chairs, benches and tables; and then fabulous, large 'farmhouse' style bedrooms with very modern en-suites - Villa Bergolo was an amazing place to stay.

It's location, the perfect mix of stunning views whilst being only 10-minutes from villages and towns, was ideal and the owners could not have done anything more to make our stay both comfortable and enjoyable.

We would highly recommend wine tasting at Isolabella della Croce, which was kindly organised by the owners for us, and would suggest people take advantage of an offer to walk the grounds and hear about the history of wine making in the region as well as how environmentally 'kind' techniques are being used today.

We met some friends of the Villas owners whilst at the wine tasting, who we got on very well with, and so promptly invited them to a BBQ at the Villa the next night. Lee and Deana joined us too, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

You do not get a true sense from this website as to quite how luxurious and well equipped Villa Bergolo is.

The house has been refurbished to a very high standard and had everything we could need for real comfort during our stay. The kitchen has a large, range cooker; dishwasher; and enormous fridge and freezer cabinets.

All in all - you really should choose Villa Bergolo for a perfect time away.

Owner's Response: Peter and his companion were lovely to have stay at Villa Bergolo. In fact towards the end of their stay we felt like we had friends staying. They kindly invited us to a BBQ were we had a great evening watching the sunset whilst sharing life experiences and eating great food and drinking excellent wine. They both took excellent care of the house and left everything just as they had found it. We would love to have them back and be able to share more about this truly amazing part of Italy.

Villa Bergolo

  • 5 of 5

Villa Bergolo is a beautifully restored, spacious farmhouse. Each double room is comfortable and large with a TV, an ensuite shower and WC. Nets over the windows prevent any insects from invading, there is plenty of storage space. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a comfortable sitting-room and a dining room, if needed. We thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool with its magnificent view.

We had some lovely walks from the Villa and around the local village. We had some excellent meals out - there is a very good, authentic Pizzeria in Cortemilia which we enjoyed several times and a very special restaurant in Bergolo. We found that these meals were extremely good value compared with the equivalent in England. The countryside is magnificent with its hazel groves and vineyards and steep hills with amazing views.

Lee was a patient host in answering any questions and extremely generous in his hospitality. We had a marvellous holiday and would like to return.

Owner's Response: A kind loving Mother, Aunt & daughter who came to Villa Bergolo. Our Guests daughter of 11, took part in The International Music Competition at San Francesco Church, behind the walls of Franciscan Convent. Because of their late arrival we cooked them dinner and they kindly returned the gesture for us on another evening which was nice as we got time to sit and get to know them a bit better. They were lovely guests to have and we look forward to meeting them again. .

Wonderful villa in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 (children 8, 12 and 16) and we stayed at the wonderful Villa Bergolo for two weeks in July 2016.

The Villa is located in the beautiful Piedmont with stunning views from the hillsides and winding roads as the perfect basis for a relaxing family holiday with nice wine and good food. The cities of Alba and Acqui Terme are less than an hour drive away, and we also did longer trips (1.5-2.5 hour drives) to Liguria (Portofino, Genova, Savona and Albenga) and the capital of the region Turin.

The Villa is a refurbished farmhouse restored to a very high standard. It consists of two parts: The B&B part and then a part in the refurbished old barn.

The rooms in the house are all very spacious and pleasant. The 3 bedrooms for the B&B part are located on the first floor, with individual and modern bathrooms for each room. Downstairs a great and well-equipped kitchen with all the needed facilities. We enjoyed spending time in this cosy kitchen with games etc. The living room was also a pleasure with comfortable sofas/chairs and a TV equipped with SKY TV bundle to keep up with all the sporting events during this summer (Euro 2016, F1 and Tour de France). The WiFi coverage throughout the house was very good and much better than what we have been used to in other holiday houses in Italy.

Outside the pool area was a real pleasure especially with temperatures above 30C during our stay (pool temp. 26-27C). The pool depth increased from 1.0 to 1.6 meters – perfect for our youngster who is still learning to swim. The pool was kept in a good condition during our stay with daily cleanings. There were also a ping-pong table, badminton, tennis tetherball and pool floats available – so no excuse for not having fun as a family.

The owners of the Villa Bergolo are a super nice English couple Deana and Lee who lives in the refurbish barn part of the Villa. There is always a risk of feeling it a bit awkward when the owners are present, when you have rented an “entire villa” – but not in this case. Lee was like a very good neighbour who you enjoy talking to and get some valuable advice from – but not in any way intruding - always prepared to help or answer questions or just provide inspiration for good trips or local wineries. He did his outmost to make sure we had a perfect holiday – and he surely succeeded!

Thank you for a wonderful stay and our highest recommendations for the wonderful Villa Bergolo.

Ein wunderschönes Ferienhaus mit Abendsonne, Pool und freundlichen Gastgebern.

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: A really lovely family. Very polite and respectful. It was nice to see them enjoy the swimming pool and also put the cover on when they had finished, even though this wasn't a requirement. The little boy was happy to peddle around on his bike, skate board and like swimming with the blow up crocodile. He was very interested in the wild life and would show us his catches of the day. He was caring and kind as he would also put the little bugs back in the wild. His 3 grown up sisters would sit around the pool reading and generally enjoying the gardens. The family loved to cook and sit outside under the gazebo altogether eating. This is really nice to see as families of today don't seem to have the time to do this. When departing we found the house clean and tidy, they put all their rubbish out and even smoothed the peddles out on the drive. Hopefully we will see them again.

If hiking and walking are things that you enjoy doing, there are many attractions that can be reached on foot. One of the most scenic of all walks that visitors can experience is the trip to the Castle of Prunetto. The views from this historic castle are nothing less than breath-taking. The castle itself dates back to the Roman Age and is one of the oldest in the region. Visitors who come often love to take pictures, so remember to bring your camera along.

This region of Italy is known for its great selection of vino, a wine lover’s paradise. A visit to Isolabella della Croce is definitely a great opportunity to sample some of the areas’ best wines. Be sure to stop by while you are here. Food is another thing this region is famous for and there a many fine restaurants to try. L’Bunet is one of Bergolo’s excellent restaurants and they have really great traditional Italian food, including some of the best spaghetti in town. Another restaurant that is popular with tourists and locals alike is Osteria Langhet. People who come here often return again & again.

Along with delectable foods and wines, Bergolo also provides an impressive range of activities and events to occupy the visiting traveller. The fresh clean air and stunning views will lure holiday makers outside. The variety of nature trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and leisurely walking, can keep you busy all day. On days you don’t want to travel, you can swim, play tennis, volleyball, or simply relax on one of the terraces, a typical Langhe tradition. During the summer evenings, Bergolo hosts numerous lively and entertaining concerts. The commune has just finished the outstanding building of an amphitheatre, where you'll be able to sit under the Italian stars & watch live performances.

If you want to travel further afield, Alba, known for its white truffles and where they hold the annual Langhe Food and Wine Festival’s is a short trip away. Of course, if Barolo wine is of interest, one could simply travel to Barolo itself to taste of the wine and see the archaic but charming castle that presides over the municipality. Barolo itself holds a wine festival, called the Itinerary of Taste, which attracts and welcomes street artists, jugglers, actors and musicians as well as villagers and tourists.

The Piedmont region, known for its picturesque vistas of rolling hills, has so much more to bestow on the traveller than just wine and food. In Northern Piedmont, visitors to Cherasco can enjoy the enchanting antiques and collectibles market with all types of ceramics, kitchen utensils, hand-made linens and antique bric-a-brac.

In the nearby province of Turin, tourists can roam the halls of the Savoys' Royal Palace and, if the TIMING is right, can see the Holy Shroud which is kept in Turin, which is only on show once every 10 years.
