Cottage Juanita (Photos 1 to 6) is a cozy cottage in an avocado plantation. It has a sunny terrace oriented to the south. It is near 3 of the most beautiful black sand beaches of the Island. In summary; a very peaceful place but well communicated. .
Here you will be able to enjoy reading an inspiring book on your private sunny terrace while you sip a glass of wine. Located in the protected area of El Rincon; one of the most unique and tranquil spots of the North of Tenerife.
Only 8 min drive from La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz and 2 min from TF-5 motorway which connects the North with the rest of the Island.
The property was completely refurbished in November 2013. All is brand new and offers the commodities of a high standard modern home without loosing the charm of the original construction. Accommodates 2 adults and an extra person/child on sofa bed. Babies welcome at no extra cost.

Of course you can also relax while sipping a glass of wine or reading a book on your private sunny terrace or enjoy some star-gazing on clear nights.
We will have for you as a welcome gift upon arrival a basket of fresh season fruits and bottle of Spanish wine.
Any of the cottages is the perfect place because of its tranquility and central location. Only 2 min from the TF-5, the main highway that connects the North with the rest of the Island. La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz; the most important touristic towns of the north of the Island are only an 8 min drive.
On the other hand, the Plantation is only a 20 min walk from some of the most spectacular black-sand beaches of the North (Bollullo, Los Patos and El Ancon). Playa Bollullo is a short 15 to 20 min walk from the plantation. If you like to walk, it is also a great place from where to plan your hitch hiking routes.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to explore Tenerife while staying at one of the most unique places you can imagine.
NEAR VILLA JUANITA
Restaurants – The closest restaurant is “Restaurante San Diego” Here you can eat well and at a reasonable price. Try the “Pollo a la Brasa” “Grilled Chicken”; they use firewood for the grill and it is very tasty. You can walk from the property as long as you do not mind a steep hill after eating. If you go out to the main road at the Church, you walk down towards the Ocean, at approximately 200 meters you will find the restaurant right at the end of the strait stretch where the main road splits into 2 tracks. One to the left (track to Playa Bollullo) and one to the right (track to Playa el Ancon). I will give you many more restaurants within 5 to 10 min drive with the information I send when you make your booking.
Supermarkets – You have many within 5 to 8 minutes by car. 'Lidl' is right of Exit 35 and 'Al Campo' at the 'Comercial Center La Villa' of Exit 36.
Commercial Centres - “Centro Comercial Al Campo - La Villa” is the closest one (5 minutes by car) and is the largest in the North. It has a huge supermarket, many stores, cinemas, restaurants and bars. Also you can find McDonalds and Burger King. “Centro Comercial Martianez” is much smaller but it is in Puerto de la Cruz and opens Sundays.
Beaches – Close by you have three of the most beautiful black sand beaches of the north of the Island.
“Bollullo” is the closest (15 minutes walking) and has the best access; just follow the road from Restaurante San Diego to the left. Be aware that it is a dangerous beach and I would recommend only bathing in the shore, bathe only where you see locals doing it and be careful. This advice is good for all three beaches.
“Los Patos” is also close and the largest, the access is the trickiest. It is great in the summer and, if the sea is quiet, you may bathe with care in the winter as well. To get instructions on how to get there, please ask me.
“El Ancon” is my favourite Black sand, very few people and crystal clear water. The access is good and has beautiful views of “Playa de Los Patos” and the entire shore line from Puerto de La Cruz to Santa Ursula. However the beach tends to disappear in the winter months. To get there, follow the road from “Restaurante San Diego” to the left and when you get to the end, on the left, there is a narrow trail with farm walls on both sides and at the end starts an open trail on the edge of the cliffs with spectacular views. The trail is not dangerous and following it, takes you to the beach.
In Puerto de la Cruz you have “Playa Jardín” and “Playa Martianez” you can also swim in “San Telmo” or enjoy the natural salt water pools of “Lago Martianez” a beautiful complex designed by the famous canarian architect Cesar Manrique.
Not far past Los Realejos you have “Playa del Socorro”, a beautiful black sand beach with lifeguard on duty that ensures that people swim where it’s safe; away from the natural currents that are so dangerous and common in the northern beaches.
Things to do – Places to Visit
There are lots of activities that you can enjoy and places to visit while staying at Villa Juanita.
I would recommend that you visit La Orotava (Oldest colonial town of the North of the Island dating back to 1496 and only a 5 to 8 minute drive away from the property. Here you can see The “Casa de Los Balcones” an old colonial house with spectacular wooden hand crafted balconies and a beautiful interior patio that present in all colonial houses in the Canary Islands. Here you can find all kinds of typical objects ranging from hand crafted tablecloths, typical costumes, souvenirs, gourmet specialities and local spirits. Also you can visit the 'Victoria Gardens', the Town Hall or the beautiful Church of La Concepcion. There are many small restaurants where you can enjoy the typical Spanish tapas or full meals or enjoy a nice espresso at the Kiosk of Plaza de la Constitucion for 0.80€ (and this is standard price in local bars).
Also within a 5 minute drive you can be in Puerto de la Cruz (main tourist centre of the north). Here you can visit the Botanical Gardens, enjoy a relaxing Spa at the Hotel Playa Canaria, visit the Loro Parque which holds one of the most extensive collections of Parrots of the whole world (also has Killer Whale and Dolphin shows, Kids adventure play area, Shark Tunnel, Aquarium, Piguinarium and much more). Also in Puerto de la Cruz you can enjoy the salt water swimming pool complex of “Lago Martianez” designed by the famous canarian arquitect Cesar Manrrique or enjoy a relaxing walk from San Telmo to Plaza del Charco. There is also a gambling casino, restaurants, bars, a fishing pier, etc. Bathing in the ocean can be done at Playa Jardin, San Telmo or Playa Martianez.
Don’t miss out on visiting the National Park “Las Cañadas del Teide” The road to get there as well as the National Park itself constitute one of the most beautiful volcanic landscapes of the world.
Of course there are many more things you can do while staying at Villa Juanita. Let us know if you have a special interest on a particular activity or place to visit and we will give you all the information we have.
Chris my wife and me are professionals, I am an engineer and my wife is an interior decorator. We feel blessed to live in the avocado plantation and we wanted to share with others this beautiful and peaceful place.
Ted purchased this cottage in 1998
If you want a unique place were to stay with all the commodities of a modern home but with the charm of a country property this is the place for you.
Location, surrounded by nature, very quiet and close to everything.

Very comfortable and well-equipped cottage in a lovely quiet rural setting on an avocado plantation. Although quiet, it is only a couple of minutes drive to the Autopista for easy and quick access to the rest of the island. Puerto de la Cruz is only 5 minutes drive away, with numerous restaurants, cafes and touristic sights.Ted was welcoming and helpful, without being intrusive. Highly recommended.
The cottage has been well planned and thought out, beautifully finished and well equipped and is both comfortable and welcoming with plenty of space.
As Ted was not going to be able to greet us on arrival as he would normally do, he made sure well in advance that we were aware of how to access the property and that we had his contact number.
The outside space is pretty with colourful plants surrounding the terrace giving privacy. The owners are friendly, helpful and available if needed to give any local advice or recommendations.
The San Diego restaurant at the bottom of the hill, 5 minutes walk away, has a great menu and lives up to Ted's excellent recommendation. The volcanic scenery on Mount Teide is unmissable and the north coast is well worth a visit.
All in all, a great space to stay which we would be happy to recommend to friends and family.
Brilliant location in walking distance of beach, restaurant and Puerto de la Cruz. This a great base to enjoy the best of Tenerife. However, the biggest assets are the charming and helpful hosts- Bernard and Christina!
We've already booked again for next year!!!
The very lovely little cottage Juanita was the perfect place for our short holiday hiking around Tenerife. It was peaceful, beautifully kept, and close to all the necessary amenities, such as Supermarkets, restaurants, etc. The private terrace had both sun and shade all day long, and the house had everything you could need. Bernard is very friendly and helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
If you love sitting around pools on package deals then this isn't for you. But, if you love to see some of the real Tenerife, in a lovely location, away from it all but still with every amenity, then you cant go wrong with this. All in all, perfect!
We had some difficulty finding the property although it is very close to the TF5 but when we did we were delighted. It is in an avocado plantation which we loved but the downside was that we had little direct sunshine on our patio. It didn't stop us having meals out there as it was usually the perfect temperature. Bernard was very helpful without being obtrusive. This was our second visit to Tenerife and our first to the north of the island. We found the cottage the perfect location for exploring the north and for visiting El Teide again. There was more cloud in the north as we had been warned but we didn't have rain and the area is so green. The restaurant San Diego which overlooks the sea,was lovely and within an easy walk so we used it several times both for meals and drinks. The town of La Oratava is very close and well worth a visit.
We have no hesitation in recommending this property.
Cottage Juanita is a beautifully decorated and modernised cottage for two. Situated among avocado and banana plantations it is a peaceful location, yet is also within 10-15 mins walk of two of the best beaches on the northern coast. Puerta de la Cruz is also a very pleasant 30mins walk away with its restaurants and busy holiday town centre. The property is very well maintained by owners Ted and Chris making this a highly recommended holiday home. We enjoyed Cottage Juanita very much and would return again for another stay on Tenerife.
