About the Owner

We both grew up in Scotland, Ros in Aberdeen while I started off in Dundee then spending my teens in the eastern Highlands. After I'd moved to Aberdeen, Mum's career took her to this more southerly area of the Highlands. While she worked here and after she retired, we visited frequently, as much to enjoy the peace and quiet as to have a family catch-up,

Wonderful stay for families

  • 5 of 5

The Beeches at Invergarry is beautiful. The perfect stay for familes if u are wanting to explore the highlands of Scotland. Peaceful and quiet with a lovely walk through the bushlands behind u. The Invergarry pub just down the road had beautiful food as does the Boathouse restaurant in Fort Augustus. The house is huge and has everything u need for no matter how short or long your stay is. Belle the housekeeper is a lovely lady that makes u feel at home. Fantastic price as well. LOVED IT!!!!

Location was perfect for day trips to Inverness and Isle of Skye.

  • 3 of 5

Location:

This was a great location to reach several great locations. We managed to drive to the top of Isle of Skye for a short hike on Quirang, stopping at Eilean Donan Castle, and Portree. On the second day we were able to reach Inverness, stopping at Urquhart Castle.

Service:

We really appreciated Bell meeting us at the property and helping us get settled.

Property itself:

It was a bit difficult to find in the dark, since it was up a small road behind two other houses. We traveled in October, which was expected to be a cold period. There was very minimal heat on/working when we arrived. We had to use a considerable about of time to heat working in all the rooms. That was not a positive experience. It would have been better if the housekeeper (Belle) checked things out and warmed it up before we arrived.

The kitchen was fully equipped. The bedding and towels were clean.

Owner's Response: Dear Richard, Firstly, we apologise sincerely that the house hadn't been warmed through when you arrived. This is normally done all year round. We have investigated the cause to make sure it doesn't happen again. Thank you too for your suggestion about locating the driveway, work on this is under way. It's great that you got to see so much of the Highlands and Islands in your short stay. Invergarry is ideally placed for such visits and we hope that our technical glitch didn't detract from your enjoyment of this beautiful part of Scotland. We take all feedback very seriously, so thank you for taking the time to record your constructive review. It helps us learn everything we can to ensure that each guest has an enjoyable visit. Safe travels, Mike & Ros @ The Beeches

Relaxing home beautifully placed

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful relaxing time spent in a clean, really well equipped home. Lovely local walks and well placed for visiting the Caledonian canal; Loch Ness; Fort Augustus; Nevis Centre; Ben Nevis (3 of our party made it to the top) and further afield. The house has everything you could need including good variety of games to keep the children happy; maps; local interest books and a well equipped kitchen. Mike, Ros and Bell were extremely helpful and friendly and gave excellent easy to follow directions for finding the property and good local advice for shopping and eating, try the pub beside the locks in Fort Augustus. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return some day

Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at the Beeches – the house itself is well stocked for all your self catering needs, the décor and accommodation is warm, welcoming and very relaxing. Enjoyed some fabulous walks in the local area (particularly the walk which you can take from the back of the house up to the Loch Lundie) and there was plenty to do and visit locally.

Our 2 children in particular loved seeing the resident pheasants in the garden as well as all the other birds and wildlife in the garden and local area.

Bel who looks after the property was very helpful and staying locally was able to provide us with information on almost anything we asked.

Overall a short, but thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay and without doubt, we will visit again.

Fabulous, Relaxing Stay in Invergarry

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at The Beeches. The house is snuggled in the woods with a perfect trail just behind the house. We were close to Ft Augustus (check out the lock system) and even made a day trip to the Isle of Skye. We cooked in one night as the kitchen had all the essentials. Belle checked on us several times and Mike called to make sure we had arrived okay. I only wish we had stayed.

Location

From the Owner

So, when Mum decided that she needed something smaller, we settled on holiday lets as the ideal way to keep our connection with the village and share it with other visitors who have enjoyed the area as much as us. While we've visited many far-flung corners of the globe, there's nothing like the grandeur of the Scottish Highlands or the welcoming hospitality to be found here. Yes it rains, a lot, but the ever-changing moods of the glens and mountain-sides, not to mention good waterproofs, make it so worthwhile.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Inverness at 50 Miles Nearest Barpub : Invergarry Hotel, Invergarry at 1 Miles Nearest Golf : Fort Augustus at 7 Miles Nearest Train : Spean Bridge at 15 Miles Nearest Motorway : A9 Inverness - Perth at 30 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Invergarry Hotel at 1 Miles Nearest Ski : Nevis Range, Fort William at 20 Miles Car: recommended

Invergarry is where the roads to the Western Isles, the Highlands and Lochaber's adventure centres meet. It's a quiet, friendly spot that was once the seat of the MacDonnell clan, the partially ruined Invergarry castle are an impressive sight, and the village formed part of a great estate. The nearby Glengarry Castle Hotel was once the centre of society sitting at the end of its own railway line to Fort Augustus. The Heritage Centre at the Glengarry Community Hall directly across the road from The Beeches has a wealth of information on the local history.

The village prospered as the Great Glen saw the development of the Caledonian Canal and the locks that make up the waterway are a fascinating attraction as boats of all kinds make their way up and down at Fort Augustus and Neptune's Staircase at Banavie near Fort William.

Their is a wide range of tracks and trails around the village, some that make for a pleasant amble, to others that offer a real challenge to the seasoned hill-walker. Of the 284 Munros in Scotland, more than 50 are within an hour's drive of Invergarry.

Taking in such breathtaking scenery, whether on foot or by car is great for the appetite. It is no wonder then, that the Great Glen boasts a mouth-watering array of eateries and producers of fine food. Invergarry has its two hotel restaurants, Fort Augustus has half a dozen hotels, pubs and cafes great for dining out and there are many shops with a range of fine local produce.

Only an hour's drive north-east is the city of Inverness, with its castle, ancient streets and busy shopping centres. Twenty-five miles to the south-west lies Fort William and beyond, the majesty of Glencoe. Drive west out of the village and marvel at the rugged beauty of the mountains as you pass Eilean Donan Castle on the road to Skye.

Almost any road or track will take bring you to a loch or a river, many offering the opportunity to go freshwater fishing (most hoever, do require a permit). Equally, wildlife abounds in the area, and you won't go far without coming across some of the bird-life, deer and red squirrels who live nearby.

So whether you need a base for exploring and adventure or a tranquil spot to recharge your batteries, Invergarry has just what you need.

Facilities

From the Owner

For 25 years now, we've watched the birds and squirrels feed on the rowan tree by the front window, hiked up to Loch Lundie behind the house through all all kinds of weather and enjoyed a warm welcome in the village and hotel. Hidden from the road and perched up high, the house is a tranquil oasis with views across he glen. You can spend the day sight-seeing, bagging Munro's or ambling around the glen. Whichever takes your fancy, you can look back on it as you sit in front of a roaring fire or in the group-friendly kitchen-dining room.
