A superb location with wonderful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful destination for our first trip to Croatia! We chose the house due to its location between Split and Dubrovnik, but had no idea it was such a find till we stayed. Despite the Bora wind blowing for some of our stay, this didn't dampen our spirits at all. Milan and Vedrana were wonderful hosts and helped us to hire a car for our unforgettable day trip to Mostar, as well as directing us towards local restaurants and supermarkets. We went on several walks from the house in the peaceful countryside surrounded by olive groves; it's hard to believe the turbulent history of the area when such peace is so abundant. The sunsets were over the sea were truly spectacular watched from the terrace with a glass of wine; we even spotted a couple of shooting stars after dark. Watching the storm from this location was just as impressive with the lightening lighting up the expanse of sea. The house was warm and cosy with a fireplace and heating in the bathrooms, bedrooms and lounge and the outside area was enjoyed throughout our stay. A real find and we're already planning our next visit without the kids!

Beautiful house and location!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Oliva was everything we hoped it would be. Beautiful restoration of an old house surrounded by mountains with a view of the Adriatic. The location was great for day trips to Split, Dubrovnik, beaches and the Islands. The house and property were clean and well kept. The owners Milan and Vedrana were extremely nice and accommodating. They provided us with lots of good ideas for sight seeing and restaurants. We loved our stay and hope to return in the future.

An amazing week!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about Villa Oliva. It truly was a dream vacation. Vedrana and Milan were excellent hosts. They have thought of every amenity you should need, and more. The house itself is comfortable, roomy, well-appointed and so clean. We loved the 'outdoor barbeque', the pool, and the outdoor patio in general. Having coffee every morning, overlooking the town of Podgora and islands was amazing. Their recommendations for restaurants and tours were perfect. They really know the area - helped us with taxis, reservations, etc. There are olive trees all around the property from which they make their own olive oil, and a little garden where you can pick tomatoes and peppers in season. You can walk up to the old town center of Podgora easily from the house. Walking into town takes about 20-25 min., and taxis back up are no problem. The town of Podgora is charming, and has lots of restaurants and bars. The beach is not as crowded as Makarska. We loved the 'Ranc' restaurant in Tucepi (town between Podgora and Makarska) - dining under the olive trees. I can't say enough about our whole experience at Villa Oliva. Again, I can't thank Vedrana and Milan enough for all their help and information. They really know how to make a vacation special. I really appreciated their attention to every detail. I would highly recommend this property!

Best holiday ever?

  • 5 of 5

I'd have given this place 10 stars if the system had allowed. After a difficult few months, we needed a special holiday and Villa Oliva gave us exactly what the doctor ordered. We have nothing but the highest praise for Villa Oliva, its setting and our hosts, Vedrana and Milan. The villa was perfect for the 5 of us and could have taken more quite easily without feeling cramped in any way. The heated pool was a luxury at beginning and end of day before and after our days out and the setting of the villa amongst the olive groves and other fruit trees was a joy. The views over the sea and islands was always stunning. Don't forget to ask where you can get the spring water. Beautiful to drink. This was our 3rd consecutive year on this stretch of coast and we feel very at home in Podgora and its surroundings. Podgora is a family resort and not the place for clubbing or late nights in the bars but the town and villa are perfect if you're after a stress-free and relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. For the late birds there is Makarska a few miles up the road if needed. The walk from the villa to Podgora is all downhill and very pleasant down the mountain trail in the cool of the evening. Bit harder walking back tho' but local cabs help cover that... Every year, including this year, we find the local restaurants very good in quality and value. Konoba Klemic on the seafront our favourite. If you tire of the seafront / beach etc, there are some very pretty, simple resorts up and down the coast and enough activities to keep one occupied., eg scuba, bike riding, sea attractions, canoeing in the mountain rivers, boat tours etc

So, Villa Oliva is one of my favourite holiday locations and was perfect for us this year. I must add that Vedrana and Milan the owners / hosts were outstanding. Their attention to ensuring we had as good a holiday as possible was incredible and we are tremendously grateful to them for all their help, support and particularly their great company (and their cherry brandy!!). Finally, head up the mountain to Old Podgora and All Saints Church. A stimulating walk in every respect from the villa and brings things into perspective. The whole package here is just wonderful.

Perfect family break

  • 5 of 5

We arrived very late on the first night of our stay but were met by Milan and Vedrana who welcomed us very warmly and made sure we settled well for the night. They returned the next morning to inform us of all things related to the house, Maskarska area and beyond. They were perfect landlords in that they were available when required and also helped retrieve our lost luggage from the airline.

As for the villa, it is in a beautiful location with great views, tastefully refurbished and decorated to a high standard whilst also very secluded. The house has lovely touches such as the bbq that uses olive wood rather than charcoal, a vegetable garden which you are encouraged to use and olive oil made from the trees around the villa. Podgora is walkable and which we did for dinner one evening with a 10 and 4 year old so no issues for active families. There are local taxis available but the local restaurant 'Roko' drove us home one evening aftee our youngest fell asleep(very nice local people). We had a sedate relaxing week and our days were mixed between local beaches and lying by the villa pool. Watching the sunset over Hvar with a glass of Croation red wine whilst sat by the villa pool will be a lasting memory. Dubrovnik is a trek but a must though.

Both children and adults had a very relaxing and enjoyable week. We'll be coming back next year.

Thanks to Milan, Vedrana and Jimmy!

Wonderful hosts, fantastic property!

  • 5 of 5

Do yourself a favor and stay here! We were two families with five children on our first trip to Croatia. We could not have been happier with our experience. Podgora is a charming village within comfortable travel distance of Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar and Brac. The local beaches and restaurants were lovely and quite good. The house itself is very high quality and is surrounded by a large, beautiful property that offers much privacy and enjoyment. Finally, Milan and Vedrana are among the best and most professional hosts we've encountered. They go above and beyond in looking after their guests and are extremely friendly. We now consider them friends and hope to be able to visit them again sometime.
