Welcome to 'Casa de las Flores', a beautiful, self-catering Rural Retreat, located in Sortes above Órgiva in the heart of La Alpujarra in Andalusia, southern Spain.

Here you will find our beautiful rental casitas, Casa Jazmin with it's private pool & Casas Rosa & Casa Camelia with their large shared pool.

Built in the traditional Alpujarran style, the 3 rental apartments (casitas) are part air-conditioned and heated via the same units and/or open fireplace.

The views of Órgiva and the surrounding mountains from all the casitas are absolutely stunning.

Each casita is self-contained with its own entrance, a kitchen/dining/living area, bedrooms, bathroom(s) and spacious, partly-shaded terraces for outdoor living.

All casitas have Free view TV and Internet access.

The air-conditioning/heating units are for your convenience but as the cost of electricity in Spain is the highest in Europe & subject to 21% VAT, the use of these is subject to "Fair Usage Agreement". When you are in your casita, of course, you may use it as necessary, although heating is never needed during the night, we provide adequate bed clothes to keep you very warm. The air-conditioning is only needed, & it is only "Fair", if you use it when you are actually in the casita. We reserve the right to enter the casitas & turn the units off, if they are left running when you are out.

There is a central laundry with automatic washing machine and tumble dryer.

As a holiday rental, you will find Casa de las Flores unique in this area, suitable for singles, couples, families or large groups. One or more of the units can be rented together for social functions, special occasions or corporate events, with a total sleeping capacity of 14 persons.

Walking, Horse Riding & Climbing:

Hiking and horse riding, along with many other activities, can be arranged locally.

It is a particularly delightful area to explore on foot and there are many well-signposted walking routes, ranging from a short stroll, to day long hikes into the Sierra Nevada.

For the really serious walker there are two famous long-distance foot paths that cross La Alpujarra. One is the GR-7 which begins in Tarifa in Cadiz Province and crosses Europe all the way to Greece. The other is the GR-142 which runs from the spa town of Lanjarón (only 15 minutes from Casa de las Flores) to Fiñana on the northern side of the Sierra Nevada in Almería. Before your walk, you can fill your own water bottles at the spa in Lanjarón.

Horse riding is very popular in the area, with several equestrian centres offering rides.

Cycling and Mountain Biking :

Cycling and mountain biking are hugely popular in the area, partly due to the 325 days of sunshine and stunning, mountain scenery. Las Alpujarras are Spain's southernmost mountains and include the longest downhill in Europe.

You can hire a bike locally. If you want to 'do your own thing', then this is an ideal base.

The property is located on the main A-4132 road to Trevélez, which passes through the famous Alpujarran 'pueblo blancos', including Carataunus, Pampaneira and Pitres. A short detour takes you to Bubión and Capileira in the Poqueira Gorge from where you can ride up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and up the track to Pico Veleta (3,400 metres).

The trails are generally quiet and in the mountains, devoid of traffic.

Climbing, Scrambling and Mountaineering. The Alpujarras are a well-kept secret for rock climbers and scrambling (grades 1 to 3S). Climbing is possible year-round and there are over 200 routes within a 25km radius of Orgiva, with a full range of grades up to 7c.

In the winter months, mountaineering, ice climbing, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering and snow shoeing are all possible in the area.

Driving: Casa de las Flores is located at the end of a short drive off the main scenic road between Órgiva and Válor. Driving this scenic route through La Alpujarra and Sierra Nevada National Park is highly recommended. The scenery is spectacular and you can visit the pueblo blanco white villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira in the Poqueira Gorge.

From Capileira, the highest of these villages, there are fantastic bike rides and walks into the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Further afield, there is Granada (45 minutes), with the iconic Alhambra Palace. We also encourage guests to visit the Albaicín, the ancient Moorish quarter of Granada.

In the opposite direction along the coast towards Malaga, the Caves at Nerja are well worth visiting.

Beaches: The closest beaches are those of the Costa Tropical, approximately 35 minutes' drive away. The town of Salobreña has a good beach with lots of beach side restaurants and cafés. And if you don’t just want to sit on the beach, you can visit the 10th Century Moorish Castle in the old town.

A further 10 minutes drive west along the coast, the resort of Almuñécar has seafront restaurants, shops, a weekly market, a castle, botanical gardens, a bird sanctuary and a water park.

Casa Camelia is a beautiful 2 bedroomed casita full of character.

From the private terrace you enter through the rustic, wooden "Stable door" into the living area which also incorporates the fully equipped kitchen & dining area. This area has air-conditioning, which also provides heating in the winter. There is a chimney with open, wood-burning, fireplace.

From this area you access the hallway, leading to the shower room & both bedrooms, both of which have ceiling fans. The shower has an extractor fan, very large shower cubicle, W.C. & pedestal basin.

Views through all the windows are south-facing towards the town of Orgiva & the Sierra Lujar.

Casa Camelia's private terrace is accessed via it's own walkway & has amazing 180 degree views to the Rio Chico, the gorge, El Penon Espinosa, Sierra Lujar & the main town of Orgiva. Also the white villages of Bayacas, Carataunas & Soportujar can be clearly seen from here.

Well equipped apartment with spectacular views

We spent a lovely week here in October. The apartment is spotlessly clean, has everything you need and the owners, Nick and Pauline, couldn't be more helpful. It was an ideal base for our holiday plans - walking the Sierra Nevada trails and visiting Granada. As we were out exploring all day and every day we took little advantage of the pool but good to know one was available if you wanted it and the one swim we had at the end of a long day's walking was brilliant. This area has so much to offer, is convenient for airport, coast, mountains and of course the Alhambra - what more could you want! Oh and apparently there are plenty of good restaurants nearby but, after being out all day we enjoyed just returning to our comfortable apartment to eat and relax. All in all would strongly recommend. Thanks again, Nick and Pauline for sharing your beautiful home.

Highly recommended - 5* location + accommodation

We would highly recommend a stay at Casa De Las Flores, in particular Casa Buganvilla where we stayed in July. The accommodation was immaculate, and provided every single item to make staying a pleasure - from kitchen equipment to ironing facilities. The terrace is large, making it the ideal place to sit and enjoy breakfast while the sun rises. The pool area is beautiful with wonderful views. The owners, Nick and Pauline, were extremely helpful when giving advise about local amenities and suggestions for things to do in the surrounding areas. We had a wonderful time, and plan to return. Highly recommended.

Wow! Just a perfect place to stay

5 stars isn't enough! We've just returned from our 10 day holiday in Casa Buganvilla. Just the 2 of us, so Buganvilla was absolutely perfect, the views from the terraces are spectacular and exactly as Nick advertised them - or better! On arrival Nick and Pauline showed us around, all the rooms were a good size (especially the bathroom) very comfortably furnished with everything we needed. The south east terrace was huge and great for star gazing at night with a glass or two after a bbq. Although the pool is shared we had this mostly to ourselves when we had chill out days, a great size and deep enough at 2.4m to cool off nicely. It was a special anniversary for us and Nick and Pauline had put a bottle of bubbles on the table ready when we arrived - they're such a thoughtful couple, really fabulous, so happy to help when you need advice or to recommend local places to eat. The location here is just perfect - to the right you have easy access to the beautiful white Alpujarran villages - Bubion was a favourite of ours. To the left a short trip to Lanjaron and onto Granada for the not to be missed Alhambra and below the small town of Orgiva with its relaxed lifestyle. Walks are plentiful from easy circular to some more challenging routes. We loved this place - 10 days simply wasn't enough.

Beautiful property in an area of outstanding beauty.

We had a wonderful short break in a beautiful and well equipped apartment. The views from the property & in particular the terrace were amazing. There was a lovely pool which we ventured into despite the cold weather!

The owners Pauline & Nick were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Casa de las Flores is unique in the area, offering outstanding views, peace and quiet, and excellent facilities. It is within a short drive of the town of Orgiva (5 minutes), which has a wide range of shops, supermarkets, a weekly market, banks, cafés, restaurants, parks and good medical facilities. Being in the heart of the Alpujarras, there is plenty to do, including visiting the world famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, touring through the Sierra Nevada mountains with its white villages, or driving to the coast, which is quieter than some of the other costas.

Casa de las Flores offers stunning views; to the south over the town of Órgiva and the Sierra de Lújar down to the Mediterranean; to the north and east towards La Alpujarra and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Opposite the famous Cueva (cave) de Sortes, it overlooks Órgiva, which is a thriving, friendly town and is a great location from which to explore the wonders of Las Alpujarras.

The area offers some of the best walking or bicycle rides in Europe, with almost constant sunshine, stunning vistas of the mountains and the famous Pueblo Blanco white mountain villages that cling to the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada.

Órgiva has an abundance of tapas bars, several restaurants, cafes, bars, banks, internet cafes, shops and supermarkets. A larger choice is available in the nearby coastal resorts of Salobreña and Motríl or in Granada. A 'must see' is the world famous Alhambra Palace in Granada.

Other Activities: Bird watching; rock climbing (462 routes in 6 areas within 25km radius)

Golf: There are golf courses at Granada (1hr) and Motríl (35 minutes). There are numerous other courses on the coast towards Nerja.

Ski: The impressive snow covered ski slopes of the Sol y Nieve resort in the Sierra Nevada are just a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Órgiva. It has practically guaranteed sunshine and some of the best snow conditions in Europe. As one of Europe’s highest resorts, it has a surprisingly long season by traditionally opening in November and running to the first week in May. The Alpine skiing championships took place there in 1994.

Whilst staying at Casa de las Flores, it is possible to get to the ski slopes in the morning and return to sunbathe by the pool in the late afternoon.

Casa de las Flores is set on a hillside overlooking Orgiva at an elevation of 625m. The views are absolutely amazing in all directions. Conveniently located only 3km from Orgiva it is nevertheless a tranquil location offering peace and quiet. There is plenty of space to relax, either on a private terrace or next to a swimming pool. However, if you prefer a more active holiday, there is plenty to do in the area. Because there are multiple units, Casa de las Flores is ideal for family reunions or larger groups, as we can sleep up to 14 people. And there is ample space on the terraces for outdoor entertaining.

Notes:

  • The terrace is to the south east of the casita providing stunning views to the East towards the Pueblo Blancos and the Sierra Lujar Mountains. There is a central laundry facility with tumble dryer close to the casita. We ask that guests do not smoke inside the building. Small children will require supervision on the terraces. The nearest golf course is Los Moriscos, located between the coastal towns of Salobrena and Motril on the Costa Tropical (about 35 minutes drive). It is an 18-hole links course with a driving range, club house and excellent restaurant. There are Aqua parks in Granada and Almunecar.
