About the property

Main House Sleeps Up To 13 In 5 Bedrooms And 3 Bathrooms. Extra 4 Beds In A Barn

Casa San Nicola, restored in 2011, is a lovely 19th century stone farmhouse. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it sits in farmland, five minutes walk from Sant' Angelo in Pontano.

The house offers spacious luxury accommodation for up to 13 people in five bedrooms. Outside, 20 metres away, in a beautifully converted barn, is additional accommodation for four more people. With underfloor cooling in the summer, and central heating, open fires and a wood burning stove in the winter, the house is suitable for large or more modest sized groups throughout the year.

A large private pool (15 metres long), multiple terraces and a series of lawns, all with views across rolling hills, provide the perfect summer location for sunbathing and relaxing in the sun. The gardens, designed by a landscape gardener and featured in 'Ville & Casali', are full of colour throughout the summer.

Sant' Angelo, a five minute walk or two minutes in a car, is a lively village with a range of shops, bank, three bars and three restaurants.

The house, rebuilt in 2011 to a very high specification, has a carefully designed layout and a great mix of rooms, making it spacious and comfortable for up to 13 people, with room for an additional four people in the converted barn. It is furnished as a home and not as a holiday rental.

About Harriet Morgan

We are a family of 5 living in West London

Harriet Morgan purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Harriet Morgan chose Province of Macerata

We fell in love with this part of Italy having travelled across by ferry from Split, Croatia arriving in Ancona, just an hour away from the house. The area has beautiful views, very friendly people who encourage you to chat in Italian with them and always make you feel very welcome. The house is an easy walking distance to the village and both the mountains and the sea are close at hand.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The house is furnished as a home, not a holiday rental. The wall are lined with books and the kitchen is fully equipped by a cooking enthusiast. Every detail has been thought of.

Fabulous house in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house for 2 weeks in August and would highly recommend it. It is furnished to a high standard and provides plenty of space whilst managing to feel cosy. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped and the beds very comfortable. There are endless board games and a wonderful selection of books so always plenty to do.The outside space is perfect with a pool big enough to cope with the 10 of us! Lots of extras at the house that you don't usually get at a holiday rental and the housekeepers were always on hand to help with any issues. We fell in love with the area, the beauty of Tuscany without the crowds. Lots of gorgeous towns and villages to visit, we felt like we had hardly scratched the surface in 2 weeks and will definitely return.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your lovely review Vicky. I am so glad you had a good time. You have mentioned lots of the things we love about the area and the house too. Please do consider it at other times of the year. There is lovely walking and the markets are even better outside July and August, with the benefit of coming home to a roaring fire and underfloor heating!

An Italian Pastoral Idyll

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect house in a perfect location. Le Marche is a forgotten region of Italy, peppered with medieval hill top villages to rival anything in Tuscany or Umbria. The house is very much a home where the beds are comfortable, the showers powerful and the kitchen fully kitted out even for the most discerning cook.

This really is a beautiful holiday home if you are looking to recharge your batteries

Taste & Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Casa San Nicola is a real tribute to the owners, who have created here in the gently rolling countryside of Le Marche a true paradise in miniature.

Our week's stay was as close to perfection as can be imagined, with the villa itself being the true highlight. Though the photos convey a good sense of the high standards one can expect, they do not in fact do complete justice to the sheer joy of spending time in this wonderful place, with its exquisitely laid out grounds and generously proportioned indoor spaces.

Pictures in themselves can also never provide an adequate clue to the comfort of beds or to how well a kitchen is equipped, but visitors to this property need have no anxiety on either count. Bibliophiles will be heartened to learn that they are also very well catered for in the cosy sitting room-cum-library at end of the central hallway. As has already been mentioned in an earlier review, this is very much a home (and one on which a great deal of taste and individuality has been lavished) rather than simply a holiday property.

The swimming pool area is a delight, with a sweeping panorama over the valleys and distant hills; the loungers are robust and comfortable, and the pool itself a delight.

Another attraction is the proximity of the village of Sant' Angelo which, with its variety of amenities, allows for a very relaxed approach to grocery shopping.

In short, our experience of Casa San Nicola - from the initial enquiry, through reservation process and ultimately the stay itself - has been effortless. Congratulations, Harriet, for creating this idyllic home and sincere thanks for allowing us to share the experience.

We stayed at this beautiful home for two weeks in July and wholeheartedly recommend it. The interiors are elegantly and luxuriously furnished - such a contrast to the usual, Spartan holiday villas - and there is a huge library of books, DVDs and games. There's even a fully stocked larder in addition to the generous welcome pack that was provided for our arrival. The grounds are stunning: from the sparkling pool to the gloriously planted garden. It's managed locally by a very friendly mother and son team who ensure that everything remains immaculate.

The house is fabulously situated and an easy walk to the charming village of Sant'Angelo in Pontano. It is uphill on the way there but our 2.5yr old and 4yr old managed it so not too arduous! There are lots of wonderful restaurants in the area and we sampled most of the recommendations in the comprehensive house "handbook".

Harriet really seems to want her guests to have a lovely time and we felt looked after without any sense of intrusion. This was our perfect holiday rental (and holiday!) and we very much hope to return. Thank you, Harriet.

As fabulous in winter as in summer

  • 5 of 5

As the owner says, this is furnished as a home not a holiday rental, and a very comfortable, high spec home at that. Last time we stayed in August, which was wonderful, and we could not wait to return. We had been assured that it was warm and cosy enough for a winter visit too, but as we drove through a blizzard en route from the airport we did begin to wish we had packed hot water bottles. We need not have worried. The house was incredibly warm, the wood burners easy to light, and the super comfortable beds were cosy. 2 days later we were eating meals outside in bright sunshine. The local restaurant and cheese maker recommendations were impeccable, the markets, even in winter, were groaning with seasonal produce and we discovered that the kitchen is seriously well equipped. We even used the pasta machine. We felt refreshed and indulged. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
