We arrived to find a wonderful house in a truly idyllic setting . The house was large , very warm and comfortable. I was part of a large group ,and so was delighted with the layout.A spacious comfortable lounge with kitchen diner attached.Perfect for a large group. We had use of the DVD in the evenings , sitting in front of the homely wood burning stove.

The bedrooms were comfortable and warm.

There were ample utensils for cooking for a large group, and we were all able to sit comfortably around the table.

Sameons was a beautiful town a 5 minute drive from the house. It was lively with a good selection of bars and restaurants. There were excellent supermarkets for when we catered for ourselves.

The skiing was wonderful , and I would be delighted to return again , and return in the summer when there seems plenty to do.

characteristic house with lots of space

  • 5 of 5

Location: 3 km (5 min drive) from the lift that brings you to Samoens 1600. Next to a ski-bus stop. Along a quiet authentic road with nice old farm houses.

House: Spacious. Suits a group of 12 people quite well. Kitchen is equiped with everyting you need. Large table for 12 people. Nice to make your fire, wood is available for free.

We missed a room to dry all your ski-equipment. So we left the skies outside and the boots in the living room.

Shower caused leackage, we had a few powercuts. But the landlord reacted adequate and we judged these as minor inconveniences. Don't expect a perfect house; expect a house with surprises: 1000 books, loads of games etc.

Our youngest childres loved to play in the snow on the slope at the backside of the house; that was as much fun for them as skiing.

We usually dont go twice to the same destination, but can recommend this house.

It is quite busy up in Samoens 1600, so we advise you to use alternatives to enter the Grand Massive ski area also: drive to Morillon, Vercland or Sixt (quite small, but nice for an afternoon). All are reachable within 10-20 min. You can also use these as endpoints of the day and take the ski-bus to your car or directly to the house.

Great venue for a ski trip

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, warm, well equipped chalet with room for 8. Short drive to the ski lift and easy access to the village and amenities with some good restaurants for those not in to self catering. Looking forward to a return trip.

Great place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

Used for 4 days walking in the mountains, this place is 3 mins drive / 15 min walk from the main village of Samoens and great for peace and quiet, with access to the surrounding mountains straight out of the door. We did a gruelling jaunt up to the Criou and back also walked along the nearby river to Sixt, viewing the spectacular gorge cutting through the rock on the way. A short drive took us to the Fer a Cheval at the end of the valley with waterfalls and amazing views with rope bridges across the several rivers. One evening we walked into the village and had a v. nice meal in the "Monde a l'Envers" restaurant - excellent cocktails and superb cuisine !

The house was just as described - we were a group of 4, but you could easily host a big group here. Loads of bedrooms, big kitchen table and big, squashy sofa next to the fire. The owners are really friendly and so was their "man on the ground" who is an English guy who moved to the area years ago and made us all feel welcome.

The kitchen was well equipped - we never ran short of plates, knives or forks, had the all-important dishwasher and a washing machine. Even came with a fondue pot which we made good use of one evening. Living room has a huge, comfy sofa which was great to collapse on after a long days walk and a big open fire which we never used as it was quite warm, but could imagine this would be very comforting on a cold winters evening.

Upstairs, two further floors contain the bedrooms which were comfortable with good mattresses and clean, fresh bedding. The main bathroom had a nice, large and modern walk in shower plus a big sunken bath (didn't try this out, but would be a must in the right company !).

Must also mention the huge collection of books and games (good if you are ever kept indoors) plus big TV/DVD. Mostly we just used the WiFi however, as we weren't really in the house for long periods in the day.

All in all, I'd really recommend this place if you want to get away from all the noise, yet still remain connected with civilisation.

Excellent 'home from home' in a perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

Le Touyot is a very substantial and traditionally built farmhous, set in the green valley floor just along from the picturesque village of Samoen.

We loved the open plan downstairs, with a large lounge area and huge comfy sofa - just what we needed to flop on with a glass of wine after several great days walking high in the mountains.

The house was excellently equipped with all the kitchen equipment you could wish for - including a fondue set which turned a meal into a whole evening's entertainment!

The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and spotlessly clean, with high quality towels and linen in each room. Excellent walk-in showers and a sunken bath - where you could watch the last rays of the sun slowly ascending the side of the valley.

We quickly found ourselves talking about 'getting home' when out in the hills - a sure sign that we had really taken to the house.

The owners were great, very helpful and providing plenty of info on the house and area. They also provided bikes, which allowed us to cycle up to the top of the valley to the fantastic Fer a Cheval (horseshoe of cliffs rising 700 metres above us).

The location is perfect, great for skiing - but also ideal for summer excitement. We did some fantastic cross country walks, taking us right across the haut savoie mountains up to about 2,500 metres. I've climbed mountains in many areas - but here the scenery and range of routes and difficulties to suit all abilities is the best I have ever experienced.

Samoen is an excellent village to be based near : from perfect bread in the mornings through to a choice of excellent restaurants for the evening (and moonlit strolls back 'home' afterwards).

All in all, a perfect break in a perfect place!

Will definitely be back.

Thoroughly recommended!

Gorgeous house, beautiful village & great skiing!

  • 5 of 5

In preparation for our trip the owners could not have been more helpful, which allowed for a nearly entirely stress free planning process - which when you are taking 10 friends on a skiing holiday makes such a difference! We were provided with a instruction booklet to help us along with every aspect of our stay - from arrival at the house to use of the kitchen to the best way to purchase ski passes and make the most of the mountains.

The transfer from Geneva was simple, we hired cars at the airport and drove for about an hour to arrive at the house, which we found spotless. It is set a little way out of the main village, with a gorgeous back drop of fields and mountains - very traditional, and a breath of fresh air from commercial ski resorts.

The house itself is set over 3 floors. On entering you are welcomed into a large open plan living-dinning-kitchen area, which works out brilliantly with large numbers of guests. The living room area has a large corner sofa situated across from a big fire which we lit every night, a TV/entertainment system was also provided with a number of DVDs, as well as many many board games and thousands of books! The dining table was big enough to seat all 10 of us pretty comfortably, and the kitchen was better equipped than my normal one at home - you would be hard pushed to find an appliance/utensil that wasn't in the kitchen!

The first floor consisted of 1 twin bedroom and 1 large bedroom and a separate toilet. The large bedroom consisted of 2 single beds and a bunk bed and was perfect for sharing. In between the first and second floor was a stunning bathroom with a sunken bath and a stand alone shower. The Second floor had a 2 further bedrooms - a master bedroom with spectacular views of the mountains and ample room, and another room twin/double room which also has the potential to sleep a few more. The second floor also had a second shower room and toilet. This house also has multiple balconies of the majority of rooms which was a lovely added bonus. Fresh linen was provided, as we're towels.

The layout of the house worked very well for our group of 10 friends as it's spacious and well thought out, so minimises any pre- or post- skiing faff that can easily occur!

Samoens itself we found a great little village with a good selection of tasty restaurants and bakeries, as well as a few bars!

I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone, and in fact we are hoping to return next year!!

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with the beautiful Giffre Valley the moment we saw it and never left it while we were searching for a holiday home that would give us summer and winter benefits in equal measure. We wanted somewhere with character rather than the 'standard chalet' and were so delighted to find Le Touyot, full of old charm and spacious rooms that we have upgraded to provide modern comfort and amenities.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Geneva at 70 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Samoens at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Calais at 870 Kilometres Nearest Train : Cluses at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Cluses at 20 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Samoens at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Samoens at 3 Kilometres Car: recommended

Le Touyot is situated in the small hamlet of Sougey just 3km from the medieval town of Samoens in the beautiful Giffre Valley. The valley provides fantastic skiing in the extensive ski area of the Grand Massif linking Flaine, Samoens, Sixt, Les Carroz and Morillon. The main ski lift is a flat 5 minute drive and has considerable free parking, or the ski bus stops just a few meters from the from door. The Grand Massif is suitable for all skiing abilities from beginners to those who enjoy exploring challenging off piste areas. We can recommend a good local ski school that provide tuition at all levels, There is more than enough to keep your skiing interest for weeks but If you want to explore further afield Les Gets is a 25 minute drive, Morzine 40 minutes and Chamonix an hour giving acces to a vast area of varied skiing.

In the summer the valley provides serene scenery for those who just want to relax in the garden or sip coffee in the ancient town square or a huge range of adventure activities - mountain biking, walking, swimming, tennis, white water rafting, canyoning, paragliding, rock climbing are just a few of the activities that are available through the tourist office and elsewhere.

At just over an hour from Geneva airport or an 8-9 hour drive from Calais, Samoens is a perfect location for your summer or winter holiday.

Facilities

From the Owner

Le Touyot has space, charm, comfort and beautiful views with the benefit of feeling rural, being tucked away in a little hamlet but only an easy 5 minute drive in to the town and the main ski lift. In fact our children can text us from the top of the final lift and by the time they are down we are there to pick them up!
