About the property

Sleeps 3. 1 Bedroom. 2 Bathrooms.

The Old Stable is a charming cottage set back from the road with a private mature garden and a fantastic panoramic view of Lough Foyle, the North Coast and the Atlantic Ocean. The original house is over 100 years old and beautifully renovated. The traditional charm is preserved and modern conveniences added for comfort, includes central heating, open plan livingroom, a modern kitchen, one spacious ensuite bedroom, bathroom (two in total) and a wood burning stove. This is an ideal holiday retreat for individuals, couples or a small family who value privacy and tranquility.

The garden is very peaceful and private, enjoy a barbecue or just take a seat outside and enjoy the magnificent view. Relax watching the boats going by or while listening to the sound of the small steam and the birds. This is a great tour base for exploring the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula. A short (15 min) walk takes you to the Blue Flag Shroove Beach and Inish Head lighthouse, where you will find a beautiful sandy beach, with car park and toilet facilities. The beach is suitable for children, swimming activities and life guards are on duty during summer months.

The seaside villages of Greencastle and Moville offer nice restaurants, including the famous Kealys Seafood restaurant. A friendly local pub is a 5 min walk away from the cottage and both Greencastle and Moville offer genuine Irish pubs, live music and summer festivals. Greencastle Golf Club is a beautiful 18 hole links course, visible from the house and only a 5 minute journey by car. From the house you can join the stunning Inishowen Head loop walk (8km) or from Greencastle join a beautiful shore walk to Moville (2km). Moville also offers sea kayaking and canoeing.

In the summer the car ferry services takes you from Greencastle to the scenic coast of Northern Ireland, Giant Causeway and The Bushmills Distillery are approximately 1.5 hour car journey. The Historic City of Derry is only a 30 min. drive away.

There is plenty of space for parking. We do not permit smoking in the Old Stable, we hope this consideration for others does not cause you much inconvenience.

Fantastic location and amazing accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful cottage with everything you could possibly need. Very comfortable with quality inclusions. The second bathroom with another toilet and the washing machine was a bonus. The full fridge and oven was more than expected. Everything was great except the feather pillows that were not at all supportive. Please buy new pillows!

Lovely Easter break at the Old Stable

  • 5 of 5

We received a very warm welcome from Monica and Michael which was greatly appreciated. The cottage is very well appointed, warm and cosy and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We particularly appreciated touches such as turf for the fire etc. The views from the cottage are beautiful and it is a perfect base for exploring the Inishowen Peninsula and Donegal.

We would not hesitate to recommend the Old Stable to anyone looking for a peaceful break.

Great house, gorgeous spot, lovely welcome

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the best holiday home experiences I've ever had. Gregory was so helpful before the holiday started and the welcome from Michael and Monica made our arrival extra special. The house is immaculate, really comfy and well equipped with a beautiful garden providing stunning views of the sea and mountains. The Inishowen Peninsula where the house is situated is a very special place and no doubt we will return again to explore some more.

A cosy home from home and a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Gregory, the owner gave excellent directions and we were welcomed by his father on arrival. Immediately made to feel settled. The cottage was perfect for us, lacking nothing in amenities. We especially loved the peat/log fire for a couple of chillier evenings that supplemented efficient central heating. Plus fast wifi! The view across Loch Foyle is stunning and the cottage has a large and well kept garden. Nearby the beach at Stroove is so picturesque and a must see on the wild Atlantic way. Nearest main, but small working fishing town is Greencastle with a great coastal walk, excellent museum that gets you into the history, and a place to eat. We really enjoyed our taste of Donegal - it's beauty and its people.
