About the property

Auberge sur la Montagne, Ste Foy

The Auberge sur la Montagne, personally run by the owners, Sue and Andy Mac, is equally well-placed to ski Sainte Foy, Val d'lsere, Tignes or Les Arcs in winter as it is to explore some of the most stunning mountain scenery in the French Alps in summer. This boutique catered chalet featuring contemporary design in a rustic setting, offers 5 comfortable ensuite bedrooms, a separate 3 bedroom apartment, spacious lounge/bar & dining room, a friendly atmosphere and superb home cooking, including vegetarian options, in the traditional village of La Thuile just 3kms from Sainte Foy resort. We have a sun trap south - facing terrace and outdoor jacuzzi and sauna in the garden for relaxing winter or summer.

Winter at the Auberge sur la Montagne: Our position in the middle of everywhere gives you the most fantastic choice of downhill winter sports! The world famous Val d'Isere - Tignes circuit is an 8 minute drive away and Les Arcs is 10 minutes, whilst La Rosiere with it's links to Italy is 25 minutes away. The off-piste powder paradise of Sainte Foy is a 5 minute drive, and there is a regular bus service. It's uncrowded pistes also make it ideal for children and beginners. Non-skiers are well-catered for with facilities for cross country skiing, dog sledding, ice climbing, ice fishing, ice skating and swimming. Or take a leisurely stroll round the shops and weekly markets at one of the nearby resorts.

Summer at the Auberge sur la Montagne : We're right on the edge of the Vanoise National Park and have walking and hiking routes written out and ready to give you! Sensational mountain scenery. Some of the best mountain bike and road cycling routes in the world on our doorstep, as well as a multitude of other sports e.g. glacier skiing, white water rafting, golf, horse riding, swimming, tennis, fishing, parapenting and rock climbing. Gentler pursuits include the Baroque church trail, local vineyards, concerts and local fetes.

Location: We are in one of the most easterly and most beautiful parts of the French Alps, nestled on the side of the mountain just off the D902 between Bourg St Maurice and Val d'Isere. Our nearest airports, Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva are about 2-3 hours drive away. In winter there is a direct Eurostar service from Waterloo to our nearest station at Bourg St Maurice, about 15 min drive away. With pre-booking we have a minibus available for local transport or airport transfers at a reasonable charge.

About Ruth Anstice

We are Sue & Andy MacInnes and we have lived in Sainte Foy since buying the Auberge sur la Montagne in 1995. We met at Bath Uni where we both obtained a degree in Business Administration. Our love of skiing first brought us to the French Alps, but we now love the summers here just as much. We have been maanging properties for other owners in Sainte Foy since 2003.

Ruth Anstice purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Ruth Anstice chose Val d'Isere - Tignes - Sainte Foy

The Auberge sur la Montagne was built in 1975 for a successful local restaurateur. He used original materials from two derelict 17th century barns that still stand about 500 metres away from the current site. The bar ceiling is constructed from the floor of the barn and the stone wall in the restaurant is clad in original stone from the barns. He ran it for 5 years and sold up in 1980 to a 60+ year old American lady who had been brought up in Paris during WW2 and wanted to return to France, Since buying the Auberge in 1995 we have lovingly restored it to its present rustic splendour and have been running it as a catered chalet ever since.

What makes this apartment unique

The Auberge sur la Montagne has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is situated in a peaceful corner surrounded by fields, yet easily accessible to the mountain resorts of Val d’Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Rosière as well as Sainte Foy Tarentaise. It boasts a state-of-the-art outdoor hot-tub and sauna.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Sue, Just a quick message to say how much we enjoyed our week in Ste Foy. The apartment was very comfortable, well equipped & quite spacious compared to our previous experience of French Ski resort accomodation. We all loved ski-ing in the local area, great snow conditions, no queues & lots of exciting runs through the trees. We had 2 excellent days with Nick Quinn, I would certainly recommend his services. The skis we hired from you were perfect- I think we were the first to use them. Also thanks to Jess for her input & for booking our Christmas Dinner. I'm sure we will return to Ste Foy in the future.

very nice

We spent four days in the apartment Marquise in Sept. of 2010. The apartment was very clean, nicely furnished, and quite pleasant overall. Prior to our arrival, the proprietor was very helpful and tried to accommodate all our requests. The apartment enjoys a beautiful view from its balcony, and the building is a walking distance from the centre of the small town of Sainte Foy Tarentaise.

The accommodation for 4 - 5 people comprises : - Garage parking and ski locker - Entrance hall - Double bedroom with double bed, built-in wardrobe, en suite shower and patio door to the terrace - Twin bedroom with adult-sized single beds, built-in wardrobe (an additional folding single bed can be added) - Bathroom with bath/shower, wash basin and WC; washing machine - Large, open plan living room, with comfortable sofas, TV/DVD, dining table for 6, patio doors to the terrace - Well equipped kitchen area with dishwasher - Large sun terrace offering stunning mountain views across the valley with large teak dining table and chairs. As it is a private home, the apartment has a very high quality of furnishings and equipment throughout with plenty of storage space. There's very efficient heating and plenty of hot water. The apartment is available all year on a self-catered basis. We regret that animals are not accepted and the apartment is strictly non-smoking.
