SISTER PROPERTY TO VILLA DO MAR II AND VILLA DO MAR III

If you want to get away from it all, relax and simply enjoy the beauty of Madeira's dramatic coastline, then Villa do Mar is the perfect choice. Situated in Fajã Do Mar, where temperatures never drop below 19ºC, 30 metres above the deserted pebble beach, this idyllic, this character 3 bedroom air-conditioned villa is a veritable oasis and the ultimate holiday retreat, ideal for holidays with friends and family.

The outside space is fantastic and the views will take your breath away. The doors from the lounge open on to the wooden terrace which surrounds the front area of the villa, with outdoor dining facilities and a built-in barbecue. The garden is large with a variety of indigenous plants and palm trees and leads down to the sunny swimming pool area, with sun loungers and parasols. The perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and watch the beautiful sun sets.

Steps lead down to the main door, which leads to the hall and open-space lounge dining room overlooking the garden. The quirky but fully equipped kitchen wraps around the old bread oven chimney.

The master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom, and one of the twin rooms, has direct access to the garden, and the third bedroom has a balcony with sea view. The second and third bedrooms can be made up as a double bed or two single beds. The mezzanine above the lounge has 2 single beds - ideal for children.

The villa is secluded and off the beaten track and accessed via a narrow steep driveway. Villa Do Mar I has been the home to many a happy holidaymaker for the past couple of years. It was originally built and used as the owner's summer retreat.

There are many walks around Calheta and easy access to the plateau of Paul da Serra, with its many levada walks, makes this villa perfectly located for walking in Madeira and for enjoying a lovely holiday surrounded by the beautiful Madeira countryside.

Madeira
Some seven hundred kilometres west of the African coast, Madeira is a stunning mountainous emerald island, lapped by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. The first island to be discovered by the Portuguese navigators in 1419, Madeira became an important resting place on the long trip to the new world. From these humble beginnings, the holiday trade was formed and this spectacular island, which used to be the favourite place of the rich and famous, is now the preferred choice of all sorts of visitors, from those seeking year-round warm temperatures to nature lovers and sightseers, sports and active enthusiasts of all ages. Culture, history, stunning nature, a myriad of sea and land activities, added to a great foodie scene means Madeira has something for everyone. No matter where you go on the island you are rewarded by fabulous scenery, tiny villages and friendly people. With a population of over 100,000, Funchal is not only the capital, but also the 'heart' of Madeira and home to many of the islanders. This makes it a busy, chic, cosmopolitan and fun city, full of shops, shopping centres, bars, cafés and a great variety of restaurants and entertainment; a vibrant, cosmopolitan town where historic splendour and breath-taking natural beauty combine with a thoroughly modern atmosphere.

Just a perfect retreat
We love hidden places nestled amidst nature and this house is a dream. The garden is even prettier than on the photos and you can choose between a bunch of different corners to stretch out, eat or enjoy the surroundings. Don't miss the little barbecue house right on the beach! We invited friends and had a wonderful time; we also tried the restaurant of the owner in Camara do Lobos and it was very good, nice view towards ocean and town. What you need to know: - the restaurant indicated as meeting point is right on the road facing the ocean, but its name is only written on shaky flags and if it's windy you don't see that. Take the number of the contact person with you, so you can call him if you have problems to find the meeting spot. - the road to the house itself is very steep and narrow, but you get used to do it with a car, even at night. - you have to be careful to not lock yourself out, as the front door can't be opened from outside with a handle. So once the keys are in the house, everybody is out and the wind shuts the door you have a problem (it didn't happen to us, but it's easy to happen). - pets are allowed and we appreciated that very much; please respect house and garden if you travel with a dog, so they don't change this rule... - you need to bring or buy tablets for the dishwasher, wastepaper bags and the basics for the kitchen (salt/pepper/sugar, oil/vinegar); there will be some bread, butter and jam upon arrival but the rest you need to buy and you can't reach a shop walking (a car is needed), so better buy groceries before you get there. - be careful roasting things in the kitchen, the fire alarm goes off very easily. There is a frame on the wall next to the alarm system that tells you how to switch it off, but once you are stressed you might not see that... the alarm is VERY noisy.

A wonderful home
Everything at the villa was perfect: the house, the pool, the view, the service.... Our stay in Madeira was a great experience with the beautiful nature and the climate. But the weather... unfortunately we had much of rain and storm. That was bad luck. We are happy to be back next year...

Stunning
Marvelous property and very nice, charming house at the sunniest spot on the island! Owner was very helpful and responsive when a problem occurred. The house and garden are even more beautiful than you would expect from the pictures.
