RECEPTIVE STRUCTURE. Albachiara stands in the sweet, green Val di Chiana between Siena and Arezzo and just minutes away from fascinating Cortona, one of the oldest Etruscan towns in Tuscany on a hill 600 m above sea level. An attractive stone farmhouse, it was originally a farm shed belonging to the nearby Leopoldine villa (where the owner lives without disturbing the guests and could, in fact, be a useful reference point for them) and recently completely renovated with an eye to conservation and careful salvage of all the original materials. The result is a comfortable and elegant country house, fitted with all accessories, with the interior characterized by natural tones that recall the colours of the earth and illuminate the rooms which are furnished simply and basically, creating a warm and inviting domestic atmosphere. Outside, the luxuriant garden, with its many flowering plants, is the perfect frame for the inviting outdoor areas set up to let the guests experience the spectacle of nature in an exclusive triumph of scent and colour while guaranteeing them relaxation and tranquillity. The house, surrounded by fields of sunflowers and with a view over Cortona, is not far from shopping centres and road links which offer the possibility of making interesting cultural, artistic and gastronomic visits to the main art cities in Tuscany, such as Siena, Florence and Arezzo, but also in neighbouring Umbria, such as Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto. The famous little rural towns around Siena, like San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino, are within easy reach, as is the magnificent area of Chianti.

The house has two floors. The main entrance on the ground floor opens into the living room, with sofas and satellite TV, then on to the dining room, kitchen and a further living room. Each room has French windows giving direct access to the garden. On the ground floor are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms with shower. The first floor, reached by stairs in the kitchen, consists of a double bedroom (with divisible bed) and a twin bedroom (with joinable beds), both served by a bathroom with shower.


The entire property, completely fenced-in and protected by a double border of leylandii hedge along the whole perimeter, occupies an area of approximately 1 hectare. From the entrance gate, the driveway, bordered by cypress trees and bushes of lavender and rosemary, leads to the parking area and to the luxuriant, well-kept park. A large grassy area contains the rich and varied orchard, with plums, cherries, peaches and grapevines. Holm oaks, lime and lemon trees alternate with bushes of herbs and climbing roses throughout the garden. On two sides of the house, embellished with camellias, rhododendrons and hydrangeas, are two pergolas set up with tables and chairs and, close by, in front of the dining room French window, is a wood oven and brick-built barbecue. At the centre of the garden, dominated by two majestic poplars and a fountain fringed with white roses, the portico, a large wooden structure surrounded by porcelain vine and set up with table and benches, provides the ideal outdoor living area for sitting in the shade and drinking in the peaceful atmosphere. The wooden structure under the portico, accessible from the outside, houses the laundry room.

Swimming Pool

Open from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October, the sun-drenched swimming pool, for the exclusive use of the guests, is located in a central area of the park, about 40 m from the house, and reached by four stone steps . The rectangular pool, with stone border, PVC lining and Roman steps for access to the water, measures 5 x 10 m with a depth varying from 0.70 to 1.90 m. It has chlorine purification and an outdoor, cold-water shower. Around the pool, a large lawn area includes the sunbathing area with sunbeds and deckchairs, bounded by plants and abundant blooms and connected by a wooden walkway to a further area of lawn perfect for children's play. Completing the area are 2 gazebos, one in wood and one in iron covered with climbing roses, set up as a lounge area with sofas, armchairs and coffee tables. There is lighting both inside the pool and in the surrounding area.

The location is an ideal starting point for who wish to have nice daily trip and sightseeing all over South Tuscany and Umbria as well: being the city of Cortona located not far either from the motorway A1 ( exit Valdichiana) and from the freeway Siena-Perugia. Very well known sites like Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Perugia, Assisi and so on can be reached in less than hour driving as well as the hidden and maybe most beautiful corners of this 2 regions. Big cities like Florence or Rome can be easily reached also by train ( and we suggest to use it in high season to avoid traffic roads) being Cortona served by 2 train railways stations. Above all we are quite sure that you will fall in love with the ancient atmosphere of this beautiful town. All shops and facilities in the big village of Camucia, nice restaurants, bars, cafes, shops in Cortona. Supermarket are open also on Sunday morning.
