About the property

One of the most beautiful villages in France.3 bedrooms, huge gardenFall in love

PROVENCE IS Nature, Music, Sport, Antiques, Art, Food, Fields of colour, Sunshine.

Our lovely villa is located in the region of Gordes, officially classified one of the most beautiful villages in France. We are also lucky to be in this region which is awash with natural beauty - mountains, lakes, fields of lavender, sunflower, poppies and all the stunning places on hilltops all around. It is also close to the iconics cities of Marseilles and Avignon as well as amazing National Parks, Arles and tons of beautiful landmarks and historic places. The region is also known for a wealth of culture in art, music, theatre, dance and a wide variety of wonderful fun markets from food to antiques. Lastly, Gordes and the surrounding area is also known for great restaurants serving modern ( a few Michelin stars) gastros in beautiful settings and of course great wines and countless vineyards and caves for glorious wine tasting.

The villa is early 17th century, comprising of three bedrooms (all with modern en-suites), and 2 separate toilets, open plan kitchen dining living area. Huge fireplace. Lovely stone exterior, with a contemporary stylish and fresh interior. All modern amenities supplied throughout including TV, DVD, internet, washing machine, dish washing machine, toaster, radio, bath and pool towels and a large romantic garden.

Provence is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting and culturally lively regions in the world and Gordes is at the heart of this extraordinarily charming landscape. Experience its stunning and varied natural beauty and cultural events such as the famous Avignon Festival and an abundance of festivals in every village. There is plenty to do and see whatever you are into....sport, art, theatre, music, hiking, water sport, riding, cycling, skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, markets, antiques, food...the list is endless. Oh and of course the light of Provence and the wonderful warm weather for much of the year well into October/November.

I have been renting this house for over 14 years and happy to say that 99% of my guests have had a wonderful stay and a great holiday. This gives me immense pleasure as I love the place myself so to share it with others and give them the often magical experience of its unique location is just very heartwarming for me.

There are many websites which feature the many villages and towns all around and all the activities you can enjoy within an hour's journey even if you go as far as Arles. The scenery is always so beautiful and serene with fantastic French roads, boulevards of the famous Plane trees. Its heavenly and I look forward to welcoming you.

About Valerie Brown

I work as an event organiser in my own business. I am currently working on an Expo which will take place in the heart of London. I have four talented daughters who are my pride and joy. Like me they all love music. They work as a lawyer, a writer, a nutritionist and a journalist. We are London based except for one living in Los Angeles and my youngest who lives in Paris so its fun to go and see her on my way to Provence.

Valerie Brown purchased this villa in 1997

Why Valerie Brown chose Gordes

Belle De Jour is a place people fall in love with whether they are honey moon couples or children who love to swim and create fantasies in a large unexpected garden. There is so much breathtaking beauty in the natural landscape, the mountains, rivers, streams, fields of lavender, poppies or sunflowers, the majestic plantain trees each a work of natural art. There are tons of great markets whatever you're into. I love antiques so on Saturdays, I go to Villeneuve next to Avignon, browse or buy and then sit and eat oysters, chips and drink champagne. Local people come there so its not a touristy experience at all. Of course the most famous antique market is in Isle Sur Le Sorgue. Even if you don't buy it is always a great day and you can eat sitting at a restaurant or picnic next to the glassy clear running waters of the Sorgue. Its just enchanting. Every village has its own character and is stunning with festivals in the summer and plenty of theatre and live music and exhibitions. Also great for sport from horse riding to kayaking and loads of high adventure stuff for children.

What makes this villa unique

The house is in a village but feels like a hideaway. That makes it romantic. The pool is lovely because it is painted not tiled so the water is a lovely very clear grey blue which is cool. Les Bories which is minutes away boasts some famous neighbours. Elton John, Posh and Becks, John Malkovich and most of all Gordes is where Russel Crowe's film A Good Year was filmed and if you've seen it you know that the best thing about the film was the beautiful setting. Its also easy to have a great time here. Marseille is less then an hour's drive so you can go and have a day by the beach. The famous city of Avignon (now described as the mini Barcelona) is just a 25 minutes drive. You can have the rural, town, city, mountain for skiing or hiking and beach experience as you wish. its all yours or just stay at home and eat, swim, read, walk RELAX.

Beautiful, tranquil house and gardens

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Valerie's house for a week at the beginning of September 2017. The house was delightful and the pool area very beautiful. We had a brilliant week with fantastic weather. We loved the village of Gordes so magical and magnificent. Market day on Tuesdays is a must. There is so much to see and do though I must admit we did a lot of lazy days by the pool. Things I would recommend a visit to Domaine De La Citadelle vineyard, beautiful wines and a very informative talk on how they produce. We also took a walk around their picturesque herb garden with views of Von monteux in the distance.

We also had a fabulous canoe trip with canoe evasion at Fontaine-de- Vaucluse. It's a must.

Thank you Valerie we really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back one day. 😀

Stunning home in the depths of Provence

  • 5 of 5

It's hard to put into words how pretty this house and the surroundings are. The interior decor is very luxurious and tasteful, and the house and setting is a dream.

The Luberon/Haut-Vaucluse region is a lovely place to stay - well within reach of all of Provence's jewels - and provided our family with an excellent base. It the perfect place to both launch ourselves into the countryside to climb Mt Ventoux and visit the vineyards of Beaumes-de-Venise, or simply relax by the pool.

During our stay, Aries (the property manager) visited a few times to keep the garden looking perfect and clean the pool, and he was also extremely useful in giving ideas for things to do in the local area...like the evening market in Coustellet, which we would have never known otherwise. Valerie, the owner, was also very patient and helpful in answering all of my queries!

A perfect week in Provence.

Guests enjoying their stay and having such generosity of spirit to write lovely comments. Rob has been amazingly gracious and such a delight to host. From our first communications I felt a lovely person in him. I am so happy that he and his family had a good time. Very welcome anytime and I fully recommend him to any host. Thank you for being a part of my life.

A charming old stone house in a peaceful garden.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Belle De Jour for 11 nights in June and thoroughly enjoyed the house and peaceful setting at the end of a private track.

Everything was very clean and well furnished with excellent bathrooms and plenty of hot water.

We swam in the pool every day bar one, when there was a big thunderstorm that drenched the area and had a strange effect of gradually turning the colour of the water in the pool to green, but was perfectly ok to swim in.

Valerie was on hand to answer any queries we had despite being in the USA at the time of our stay, something that we both appreciated greatly.

Gordes and the area around was lovely with so many beautiful towns and villages to explore on foot or bike or car, a great area of France to return to again.
