About the property

Beautifully Renovated Apartment Inside The Walls With Large South Facing Terrace

A stunning and spacious apartment on the second floor of a historic building. Recently renovated, with original wooden beams and terracotta floor throughout.

The sitting room and kitchen-dining room have French windows which open onto the large terrace and a separate balcony. These face south and overlook private gardens. They are furnished with a table and chairs for al fresco dining, with wall lights for the evenings.

The large sitting room has two sofas and a 40 inch wall-mounted 3D TV with international satellite channels, a DVD player and an i-pod docking station. There is wi-fi internet access throughout the apartment.

The large and elegant kitchen-dining room has as its centrepiece a stunning range, including chimney and original stone sink. It is equipped with dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob, drinks fridge and separate fridge-freezer, washer-dryer, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetière and cooking utensils.

The two bedrooms each have double (king size) beds and there is a double sofa bed in the sitting room. There is also a single foldout mattress.

The bathroom has both bath and shower and an illuminated mirror, wall-mounted towel rail and wall-mounted and under-basin cupboards.

The apartment is equipped with air conditioning and a ceiling fan and all windows are fitted with mosquito nets (very important in the height of summer in Lucca!).

The apartment is centrally located within the ancient walls in a quiet street next to a coffee bar (very handy for breakfast pastries and coffee!). It is just two minutes from all the amenities of Lucca, including restaurants, the main shopping street of Via Fillungo and piazzas, with the best gelateria in town on nearby Piazza San Salvatore! It is also just five minutes walk from the bus station, 10 minutes walk from the train station and five minutes walk from the tourist information office where you can rent bikes. Cycling on the walls is a must and the best way to see the city!

Please note that traffic is restricted within the city walls and if you drive there you will incur a fine. However there are public car parks 10 minutes walk from the apartment just by the city walls.

Bedding, towels and beach towels are provided. There are also a travel cot and child's car seat in the apartment.

Great Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Both the owner and Tanya were easy to work with. Tanya gave us good info on restaurants, explained the operation of the apartment and set up our transport to Pisa airport. We have used a number of VRBO apartments and this one was the most well stocked we have ever encountered. Between the owner and items left by prior tenants (coffee, wine, paper towels etc) you could function in the apartment without even going to the store. The apartment is very convenient a five-minute walk to the wall, bike rental, restaurants, wine shop, gelato shop and a grocery store. Lucca is a great town. We spent a week there and never left the walled portion of the city. The terrace was nice for breakfast and a glass of wine in the afternoon before dinner. it also served as a great place to dry clothes.

Absolutely excellent apartment. Exactly as advertised. Our impression was the pics did not do it justice. Excellent communication with property owner and local property manager Tanya with very helpful hints about local travel and resources and support for queries through phone calls and texting. Tanya was very gracious when we inadvertantly broke the key off in the street door lock. Minimal cost was exacted from us for the csts to fix. Apartment wireless connection was excellent. All facilities as advertised. The A/C really only cools the kitchen effectively and in the end wasn't really necessary. With the shutters and widows closed to keep the heat out when we were away in the day travelling, when we returned in the evening the apartment was always cooler than the outside and comfortable. We had 4 VRBO's in our Europe tour, this was the best for our needs (2 parents, 2 teens) during our tour. Lucca is a wonderful place to visit. I reccemend renting a bicycle.

We would most definitely rent this VRBO again.

Fantastic apartment in beautiful Lucca

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at David's apartment in Lucca, the booking was processed quickly and David went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay.

Upon arrival we were met by Tanya who gave us a through overview of the apartment, which was fully equipped, and finished to a very high standard.

The main street(s) of Lucca were only a short walk away, and Lucca was the prefect base from which to see Tuscany.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Very happy with the apartment. Tanya made everything very easy and was already there to greet us. A very useful information sheet was sent in advance of our stay. Apartment was in great location and was clean, spacious and very well equipped. Loved the extras, I.e., robes (was a bit cool in the morning), umbrellas (it was showery one day), beach towels (went to Viareggio twice) - all things you dont want to clutter a suitcase with. Hope to go back one day.

Characterful conversion

  • 5 of 5

The initial approach to the apartment is not too promising as the two floors below are unoccupied and in need of plenty of TLC. However, once inside everything changes. The owner has done a great job in modernising what was evidently very dilapidated accommodation but has retained the character of the original. A lot of consideration has gone into guests needs and nothing is lacking, although the original stone sink cannot really be used without a bowl, so everything needs to go in the dishwasher. The terrace overlooking gardens and ancient buildings is a real bonus.

The location is a reasonably quiet street, an easy 5 minute walk to the bus station and 5 minutes from the centre. If travelling from Pisa by public transport, the bus is much the better option. All in all, highly recommended.

Lucca is a delightful small city, far more attractive than Pisa and far less hectic than Florence and blessedly free of the pickpockets and petty crime that bedevil the other two. It is very convenient for travel by train to Florence, Pistoia, The Garfagnana and even Siena.
