About the property

Beautiful House In Beautiful Location With Mountain and River Valley Views

An exceptionally large, modern house with amazing views of the mountains, forests and river valley.

This stunning property sleeps 12 people comfortably, in good quality beds in 5 well appointed bedrooms, with an extra small single room adjoining the master. Usual bookings are for seven nights but we will consider three nights or more.

5 Beautiful good sized bathrooms (4 en suite) with luxurious natural stone flooring, cosy underfloor heating and heated towels rails ensure there will be no waiting for the bathroom.

Three huge reception rooms, which includes a sitting room with comfortable reclining seating for 12 people, a large flat screen satellite TV, DVD player and a cosy log burning stove. There are woodland, river valley and mountain views from this light and airy triple aspect room. The sunny and bright, more formal lounge has floor to ceiling windows around three sides of the room allowing excellent views of the beautiful gardens, river valley and mountains to the west. There is comfortable seating, a cosy log fire, CD player and a massage chair, which is very popular with guests.

The formal dining room has a very large dining table that comfortably seats 12 people. There is a french window leading to the patio.

The large kitchen offers a second, less formal dining area and this too seats 12 people. The luxurious, professionally designed kitchen has solid marble work tops, natural stone flooring and mood lighting. It is exceptionally well equipped with an induction hob, double oven with grill, microwave, coffee machine, an American fridge freezer with ice making machine, a second under counter fridge, a separate wine cooler, bread maker, ice-cream maker, waffle maker, toasted sandwich maker, toaster, mixers, blenders, chocolate fondue set, a good selection of professional kitchen knives, more than ample pots, pans, crockery cutlery and serving dishes for a large group. There is a dishwasher and two sinks, and a walk in larder room. Double French doors lead out from the kitchen to the patio area.

Other rooms include a good sized utility room with washer, dryer and drying space, a boot room and walk in larder room.

There are beautiful gardens and 2 acres of ground, which includes a paddock. A large gas BBQ is provided for our guests use.

Bedroom 4. 2 Single beds, en suite shower room

Bedroom 5. (Downstairs ) 3 Single beds, shower room across hall

The consistent comment that comes across from our guest is the sheer size of the property, which does not really show in the images, and as you will see by most of the reviews they are generally taken aback on arrival. The quality of the flooring, lighting, fixtures and fittings add to the overall luxurious feel to this wonderful spacious holiday let. Guests are made to feel welcome with refreshments and home baking on arrival. There is a good selection of books, including local walks, wildlife, cookery books, other reference books, children's books and novels. There are also a few large boxes of children's books and games.

About Janet Grover

We designed and built this house and it was completed in 2007. Our three sons have their own families now and so we have moved into a smaller property so that we can rent the house out as a holiday home. We are retired and enjoy walking our two dogs in the beautiful countryside. We love to spend time with our grandchildren ans enjoy family get together. Our garden takes a lot of our time but we love to just potter away.

Janet Grover purchased this house in 2007

Why Janet Grover chose Newtonmore

We chose this area because of the peace, tranquillity and the beauty. If we want the city, the theatre a change of restaurants, then it is just a short drive away. The clean air, lack of traffic and parking problems, no queues at the bank or the shops, the gentle pace and quality of life are a great attraction to us. The local wildlife is amazing and frequent visitors to our back door include all kinds of small birds, woodpeckers, birds of prey, partridges, pheasants, red squirrels, roe deer, hedgehogs and stoats.

We built this property with the highest specifications possible and made it as green as possible and so it has ground source heating, which supplies underfloor heating on both floors. The house is super insulated and extra energy is produced by solar panels on the roof of one of the out-buildings. This makes for a very cosy house and considering just how large a property it is, it shows how effective the system is. There are two wood burning stoves, more for effect, as the house is plenty warm enough on even the frostiest of winter nights. The bespoke kitchen we had fitted was absolute top of the range and definable has the wow factor with its solid granite work tops, mood lighting and stone floors to add to the luxurious feel.

People are always surprised at the sheer size of the rooms - it has almost five times the floor space of the average UK house! This is obviously great for our guests who tend to be groups of fiends or extended families. We like to have a separate, more formal dining room and so it is possible to cook and eat together in the kitchen or to dine in the dining room. A very large sitting room and even larger lounge ensures that families and friends can do different activities if they wish. The WIFI is important to a lot of people and we are quite into it now and pride ourselves as 'older people' to be reasonably savvy regarding the internet and social networking (although we are not avid social net workers).

What makes this house unique

We love the views from Cairngorm Country Cottage and its central location for anywhere in Scotland. We like a trip out at the weekends and have never run out of new places to visit.

Perfect place for a family get together

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is so spacious .Just perfect for our family of 11 and a dog.

All the rooms are a good size and equipped with everything you need for a family holiday. We had a aTesco delivery on the day we arrrived which was a good idea as the nearest shop is the co op in Newtonmore. Lots of walks from the front door. The children liked walking to the farm to see the hens and buy really fresh eggs. The garden was spacious too so perfect for little ones and a dog to run around in. It was snowing 2 of the days we were here and the children just loved sledging down the hill in the paddock. The owners live next door and were very helpful.

There are lovely touches in this cottage that really helped make this a special, holiday - the sledges , the box of chocolate eggs for an Easter egg hunt, milk ,tea ,cofffee and shortbread in the kitchen when we arrived , the massage chair in the lounge is a treat too .

Thank you so much a perfect for a family get together .

Car: recommended

Cairngorm Country Cottage has a picturesque setting with amazing views and is located in the very heart of the beautiful, unspoilt Cairngorm National Park.

The children will love the Landmark woodland theme park with water flumes, tree top walk, tower, vast play area, maze and more, Newtonmore Folk park (free entry) with historical buildings, great play area, farm, old sweet shop and pictish village. They might also enjoy the wildlife park, sandy Loch morlich beach with water sports on offer, dolphin watching boat trips, the steam railway, the funicular railway to the top of Cairngorm Mountain, or perhaps the gondola to the top of Nevis Range. How about a picnic at a pict fort, a walk or cycle around a loch with an island castle. For the more adventurous, a zip line course down a gully, canyoning, climbing, quad biking, river rafting or kayaking might be more appealing.

Adults may well enjoy all of the above but perhaps a spot of fly fishing, golf, all levels of walking, a distillery tour, castle or garden visit, a unique shopping experience, sheep dog demonstrations, a ranger led walk, an afternoon tea on a steam train journey, or a stroll around a sculpture park may be more appealing. Perhaps, for a special evening out consider taking a short picturesque train ride to a remote moorland station which has been converted into an excellent restaurant. Enjoy a superb three course dinner with time for a stroll before returning on the train into the setting sun. The clay pigeon shooting at Rothiemurchus is good fun and a trip out with the ranger to feed the Reindeer is a fairly unique experience, as is a sled dog ride through the beautiful Caledonian pine forest. If you enjoy touring in the car then you are virtually at the geographical centre of Scotland and you can visit virtually anywhere in a day. Loch Ness, the stunning west coast beaches and pretty fishing villages, the islands of Skye, Mull, Iona, Staffa, Lissmore, Eigg, and Orkney are all possible to visit in a round day trip. Edinbrugh is just 2hrs 15 minutes drive, Perth an hour and

Inverness, the capital of the Highlands is also just an hour by car. There are very few cities with such an amazing approach, as you drive down into Inverness there are striking views of the Moray Firth, and Ben Wyvis. There is an excellent shopping centre, theatre, historical buildings and numerous reasonably price restaurants spread along the pretty River Ness. The river Ness leads into the famous Loch Ness and there are river cruises of varying lengths available. Of course, Inverness is also the gateway to the beautiful northern Highlands, with picturesque white sandy beaches and incredible, dramatic mountain scenery on the west, with the pretty little sea ports and rolling hills of the east. Ullapool on the west coast is a bustling little town set in a picturesque location and well worth a visit.
