Casa Lola

Casa Lola is a charmingly restored, two storey old house which is beautifully covered by wild wines and wisteria. Curtains, fabric of upholstery, carpets and pillows are stylishly chosen and match perfectly. All ceilings are beamed, all floors are terracotta and all walls are white washed. On the ground floor is a very spacious bedroom with a romantic queen size canopy bed and antique wardrobe. The bathroom has got a big shower and nice hand painted tiles from the Siena region. Upstairs there is the living room with an open fire place, a dining area with seating for 5 people and a big sofa and armchair. Leading from the living room there is the second bedroom and kitchen. From the kitchen and the second bedroom you enjoy a wonderful view out onto the pool below and the surrounding countryside. The terrace with outdoor dining for six people is directly in front of the living room and offers a beautiful view onto the blooming garden.

About the property

Podere Fulignano

'Podere Fulignano' is a beautiful old farm house complex which has been lovingly restored. It is situated in the middle of a 300 year old olive grove.

The charming houses, which are covered by wines and wisteria, are full of character with excellent quality furnishings and up-market fittings. Beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and hand painted tiles are found throughout them.

'Podere Fulignano' is perfect for both big groups and families who love to spent some time together but also like to enjoy their privacy as well. It is set in 50 acres of ground and the three independent cottages are far enough apart to guarantee peaceful privacy if needed.

Campagnatico, the next village is only three minutes by car from the farm.

It is the ideal place for anybody wishing to get away from it all and to relax and experience real Tuscan life without having to use the car every day. The huge pool, beautiful garden and great views make it a perfect stay for everyone.

Golf Information: 3 different 18 holes Golf Courses located within 50 km from the property, open all the year: “Golf Club Toscana - Il Pelagone” (35 km), “Golf Club Punta Ala” (about 35 km), Golf Club Monte Argentario (50 km)

'Il Pelagone' is 18 holes, 5.920m, and PAR 71-SSS 70, with many facilities: training field, putting green, pro shop, hire cart, golf bags and trolley, bar, swimming-pool, volley, baby-sitting. During winter is closed on Wednesday.

'Punta Ala', opened in 1964, is 18 holes, 6.168m, PAR 72-SSS 72, with driving range, golf-cars, pro-shop, golf trolley, bar, restaurant and spectacular views all around. Open everyday.

'Monte Argentario' is a spectacular Course on the half island of Monte Argentario between the pitoresque villages of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano.

Nearest Airports to the property: Florence Airport - 130 km - approx. 1,5 hours car drive or 2 hours by bus.

About Mel

Ciao,, my husband Thomas and I bought Podere Fulignano almost 20 years ago. By then we both worked in the media business and were a bit tired of its superficialty. The southern Tuscany and its rurality fascinated and insired us. Since the very first day we consistently renovated, renewed, changed and improved and we still do :)

Mel purchased this farmhouse in 1995

Why Mel chose Grosseto region

We absolutely fell in love with this place from the very first second we saw it. For us it was like an old stage out of a film or an opera scene. We both felt the peace and the quietness and decided within one hour to buy it. The southern part of Tuscany is still so unspoilt and there are little tourists. The locals became close friends over the past years and treat us and our guests like close friends. And all major cities such as Rome Pisa Siena and Florence are within 1:30 hours reach and even the sea is only 30 minutes away. It's absolutely perfect for us and so say our guests and fiends.

What makes this farmhouse unique

For us and our friends and guests Podere Fulignano is the most peaceful spot on earth. It is heavenly quiet with clean air and no light pollution and therefore many shooting stars in the starry sky. You can listen to the fantastic nature - nightingales and crickets and fireflies. Enjoy the wonderful nature with its fantastic wild life - porcupines, wild boar, deer etc. Visit the unspoilt medieval villages of Tuscany.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Mel, I just wanted to write and let you know we had an amazing holiday in Campagnatico. Your property is truly stunning… the villa was incredible, the views to die for, the pool was great, we really couldn’t fault anything. We said all week that’s its truly a 5 star self catering villa experience! We managed to fit a lot in, but relax at the same time, with trips to Siena, the beach, but also some days by the pool, and many a night spent in the small street and nice bars and restaurants of Campagnatico (Locanda del Glicine was incredible food!) We even saw some new kittens being born near the back of Casa Roberta, so next time you are there you may see some news faces. Luciano and his wife were very friendly too, and I don’t think we would have changed a thing about our holiday (well, maybe a little less rain on some days!) Thanks very much for all your help and advice, and for letting us use Casa Roberta. I'm sure we will be back! Thanks and regards Phil, Nerys, Ben & Laura

Living 'la dolce vita' in an adorable surrounding

  • 5 of 5

The casa lola, a charming stone house for 4 to 5 guests, lies within an old olive grove near the picturesque small village of Campagnatico. The surrounding is quiet and beautiful. We enjoyed the view of a picture-perfect tuscanian landscape from our grounds. There are two other houses for travellers - anone belongs to the owners -, so the place was not

'packed' at all with people, you get loads of space for yourself (which was an important factor for us). The facilities in casa lola are impeccable, there's everything you need for a good living (well set up kitchen, very clean and neat in- and outside the house etc.), and even more: Around the corner of the house you get your own pizza-oven and barbecue-grill (runs with gas) besides a lovely terrace where you want to spend hours of cooking and 'mangiare' and fine red wine while enjoying tuscanian sunsets.

Then, there's the large pool area, few yards below the housing complex, which makes it hard for you going out for a daytrip. You just don't want to leave there. ;)

Of course - the price for enjoying peaceful solitude - you need to be motorized for doing grocery shopping, sight seeing. Siena is a one hour ride from Campagnatico e.g. Food is best when buying at the local market or super markets in Grosseto, half an hour by car.

The owners and staff (special thanks to Daniela and Luciano!) were helpful and caring. There is also a small guide book at the house for activities in Grosseto and Campagnatico, with restaurant and shopping suggestions.

We absolutely recommend the Casa Lola and we hope we have the chance to come back soon!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much! I will forward your lovely words to Luciano and Daniela as well - they will be happy to her that - without their help, dedication and passion we would be lost!! And you definitely have to come back and we should have a beer or wine together:) All the best, mel

Beste Mel

Bedankt.

Auf ein Wiedersehen.

Alles Liebe und take care

  • 5 of 5

At the beautiful and charming little medieval (c.1200 century) village of Campagnatico (700 inhabitants) you will find a small supermarket, a pharmacy, a butcher, a bakery, a bank, a post office, two bars and three restaurants: a pizza place, a trattoria and a very luxurious one (which is an insider’s tip). The next big town is Grosseto, just 18 km away. There you will find everything you need including huge supermarkets, fresh fish markets and a really nice shopping area and walking zone. Campagnatico is located exactly in the middle of a triangle between the three big cities of Florence, Pisa and Rome. There is also good railway connection between these three cities and Grosseto, which is great for arriving to the farm, as well as for sightseeing.
