Lanzarote: The most easterly of the Canary islands, formerly named the 'Fortune Islands', Lanzarote basks in almost constant sunshine all year round, and is very distinct from its sister islands, both in landscape and climate. Lanzarote was recently named by the World Health Organisation as being the 2nd healthiest place to live in the world. Due to the tireless work of the local artist Cesar Manrique, the island maintains a unique blend of architecture and ecology, resulting in a totally unspoilt, traditional feel. Famous for it's amazing volcanic landscape and superb beaches, the island has a unique character all of it's own. There are many places of interest and sites to see - 'Jameos Del Agua'one of the islands many natural phenomena's, a volcanic tube caused by an ancient volcanic eruption creating an under ground lake. 'Timanfaya National Park '( The Fire Mountains ), words are inadequate and would spoil this experience. This visit is simply a must.

Car Hire: Cars can be pre-booked and collected from the Airport on your arrival or can be arranged for local collection within Playa Blanca.( Example - 5 seater Opel Corsa approx 135 euros all in per week ) . Like any where in the world, there are good & bad car hire companies. We recommend Cicar or Cabrera Medina, both companies are based at Arrecife Airport and have offices throughout Lanzarote, including several within Playa Blanca.

Playa Blanca ~ Eating & Entertainmnet: Playa Blanca mainly caters for families, couples and the more mature visitor. The village is host to a wealth of cosmopolitan restaurants, most of which serve fresh local fish / seafood and a wide selection of 'Canarian' specialties. The main wine making/ growing area of 'La Geria', is nearby, hence most restaurants offer a wide selection of local, quality, reasonably priced wines to suit all palates as well as many international wines. The Village Nightlife is generally low key and is mainly focused on those wishing to eat, drink and relax. However there is a handful of music bars that open late, the nearest from Villa Ocaso being 1 kilometre away( The Irish Anvil ~ Recommended ). These bars are safe and are well managed, and are ideal for the older teenagers in your party ( or yourselves ) to escape to for an hour or so. For those of you that want a more hectic night, Puerto del Carmen is only a Car/Taxi ride away ( 28 kilometres ).

Beautiful Villa Ocaso

  • 5 of 5

Dear Ocaso

Just a quick note to say thank you for allowing us to rent your beautiful villa. A fabulous time was had by all. The weather could not have been better. A wonderful location so handy for beach, shops, restaurants, etc. Could not fault anything . Look forward to booking again in the not too distant future.

Once again, many thanks.

Terrible Experience on day 2 of our Holiday, The safe was taken out the wall & went into the shower

  • 1 of 5

We where so upset & had very little support .

The Villa was not very clean sticky bed side table sticky shelf in wardrobe & blood stained Duvet. Tha villa had no security & told us to put all our Valuables in the safe, which was taken away with all our passports & money & Valuables.

We left the villa at around 6.30 & where back at 7.45 when this happened, so looks like we where watched not a very nice experience

Owner's Response: Both Hazel & I were deeply shocked and disappointed to learn that the guests had such a traumatic experience. The safe provided was in a lower section of a wardrobe and partly concealed under a shelf, it had been professionally installed and cemented in to the wall some 15 years prior. The thieves must have waited for the guests to leave the villa on the evening, they gained entry by springing the villa’s rear access doors open, they then located the safe and proceeded to demolish the wall that backed on to the safe, they then removed the safe and made their getaway. The local police and the Guardia Civil were duly notified and they are currently investigating the matter. We do not believe that we can be blamed for advising guests to secure their valuables, unfortunately, where ever you travel in the world today, there will be opportunist thieves and it is therefore most important that travellers are vigilant and totally aware of their surroundings and security. We feel that the comments regarding lack of support are unjustified. The guests contacted us approximately 40 minutes after the event, after which we immediately arranged for a representative to visit and advise the guests accordingly. We then arranged for a maintenance man to be at the villa early the following morning to check and secure all access points and to also clean up after the break-in. The same man then arranged to carry out the necessary remedial repairs only to be advised by the guests that they would prefer the works to be done a week later after they have vacated the villa. One positive point worth mentioning is that the same maintenance man was working the following day, a short distance from the villa when he was approached by one of his customers advising him that she had found a wallet containing three passports, all three belonged to the guests and were duly returned to them that day. It is of primary importance that we maintain the high standards of Ocaso so that guests have an enjoyable stay and we therefore welcome any justified comments that enable us to maintain this goal. With this in mind we asked the management to investigate the guests’ comments regarding cleanliness and they have reported back with assurances that the villa was thoroughly cleaned and prepared in readiness for the guests’ arrival.

Fantastic Villa in fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic Christmas in Villa Ocaso. The villa was just like the pictures. The kitchen was well equipped with full size oven & hob, fridge & freezer. There was also a full size washing machine which was great as we travelled with our grandchild.

The living area had plenty of seating for the 8 of us. We had 12 English Channels, Dvds and a wide range of books & board games to fill the evenings. The only downfall was the TV is a little dated and did not take HDMI cable.

The bedrooms were all a good size with plenty of wardrobe space. The master has a en suite with full bath. Great again for the grandchild. All three bathrooms had instant hot water at the turn of the tap so no one was waiting on the shower.

The pool and pool area were very clean and the kids never left the pool, the only downfall was the outdoor shower was not working.

The WiFi was fantastic and all the kids could use their devices all at the one time which they were delighted about.

The location is amazing. We were in walking distance of supermarkets, restaurants and bars. We could even walk to the centre of town along the coast without having to use the main road.

Kevin and Hazel you have a beautiful home and we would love to thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay in it. We have already recommended it to our family & friends and hope to return soon.

NOT a luxury villa - very dated with no mod cons

  • 1 of 5

We were very disappointed with our 'luxury' villa. It was very dated with an 'unloved' feel to it. 'Basic' and 'in need of modernisation' would far better describe Villa Ocaso. The villa would greatly benefit from having air conditioning. The 4 grubby fans provided weren't enough to keep the rooms at a comfortable temperature. We were unable to open the windows as the majority of the mosquito nets were broken or torn. Mosquitos and a cockroach flew in when we did try and get some air into one stuffy room. The shutters were broken and the louvre slats could not be adjusted. We mentioned this to maintenance on day two but nothing could be done to rectify the problem. There was a large brown stain on the pale living room curtain. We hope this was chocolate and nothing worse! We were told that nothing could be done to clean the curtain as there was no replacement available. One reason for booking Ocaso was that it had Sky TV. However, the very antiquated Sky digibox had only the most basic, free channels and no BBC, ITV or main Sky channels . We also had to 'wiggle' the wires at the back of the old fashioned TV set to get any sound. We were advised before arriving there would be no internet. Neighbours told us had the owner paid for a satellite dish as well as a Sky subscription, there would have been far more channels available. Likewise with the Wifi, had the owner paid to have a certain 'wifi box' fitted to the roof of the villa, there would be no problem with Wifi (most of the neighbouring villas have it). In the basic 'designer' kitchen, both fridges were broken inside making it impossible to stand bottles up. The crockery was basic and did not include any cereal bowls. The dishwasher was not full sized so we had to turn it on a couple of times a day and often ran out of mugs or glasses until the wash had finished. The tiny freezer is not in the kitchen but in one of the bathrooms (via a bedroom). Dated but adequate bathrooms. Some of the bath mats were badly stained with bleach. The toilet brushes were very well used and should have been replaced. The toilet seat in the bathroom I used was stained and one of the sliding bars for the shower head was covered in rust. The sun beds were comfortable but there was no umbrella. The only dining table is a plastic one with plastic chairs outside. Due to rain, an indoor table was require. The proximity of the villa to the water park was great for us but beware it can get very noisy - music and announcements.

Owner's Response: 1. We appreciate all feedback whether it be good or may be not so good and therefore take on board all your opinions regarding the general appearance and contents of the villa and we will therefore, with immediate effect arrange for a local property maintenance company to inspect and report back to us regarding any issues that you have raised, and thereafter, if necessary, rectify all that needs to be done. 2. Please note that Sky TV was professionally installed, fitting two separate transponders to service two villas. The villa's Sky digibox has exactly the same facilities as any other more recent Sky box has. Please note that we pay a monthly subscription for a Sky Family Package, however, Sky are continually reducing the available channels to all domestic installations in favour of commercial installations. The existing system is therefore being removed and replaced with an alternative system that will receive many more channels including BBC1, BBC2, ITV & C4 but not Sky. 3. We have offered a 3G WI-FI service as a none profitable optional extra for a number of years, however, the service providers decided to withdraw the service without notice. With respect, you have been wrongly advised regarding the 'simplicity' of installing WI-FI. Satellite broadband & remote 3G / 4G units are presently unreliable and only work intermittently. We are currently awaiting for the island’s telephone provider to make a land line available, we will then arrange for broadband and WI-FI to be installed. 4. Lanzarote is known for its windy weather systems, and it was for this very reason that we decided not to provide umbrellas because of the constant danger of them blowing over and maybe causing damage and possibly injuring people. The purpose made solid shaded pergola adjacent to the patio doors was constructed so that guests can have a relaxing respite from the sun without the dangers of any ‘flying’ umbrellas. 5. We purposely decided to supply a quality resin plastic eight seater dining table & chairs because they are located, as described, in an all weather ‘Alfresco' area. 6. The new water park caters for all age groups and can occasionally interrupt what is normally a tranquil area. Please note that we have never hidden the fact of the park's location. We are really sorry that you feel the way you do and sincerely hope that this does not prejudice any future visits you may make to the island. Sincerely, Kevin & Hazel The Owners.

Villa Ocaso Lanzarote, Playa Blanca

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the villa for 6 nights with our 2 sons aged 18months and 7. I chose the villa because it had a gated and heated pool for our toddler. The villa is in a good location approx 10 min pleasant walk to beach and the lovely promenade walkway which goes right along the coast and has gorgeous views. The terrace in the villa also has lovely views which I was pleasantly surprised about as you don't get a sense of it from the website. The villa itself is nice if a little dated. It was clean and tidy as was the pool. The kitchen equipment could be doing with being updated as could some of the outside furniture and a bit of decoration wouldn't go amiss, but it was good value for money with plenty of space if more than one family was sharing. Paying extra to heat the pool was definitely a good idea and we used the pool every day. The area is lovely. We are South of France fans and go every year so I was a bit worried about Lanzarote and the area being tacky but the thought of heat in january won. There are plenty of things to do on the island and the volcanic landscape is gorgeous, no greenery but all reddish rock, reminded me of Arizona. There were plenty of good restaurants to choose from which although a bit samey all served good fresh fish which you can see being caught and gutted on the rocks on the main restaurant area at Marina rubicon, the fried baby squid being a highlight. There are plenty shops with holiday tat to amuse the kids but without making you think you are in Benidorm -no offense if you're fond of Benidorm! The stunning views, great food, warm pleasant weather and nice little beaches as well as the villa made it a great winter break and we will definitely return.

Thanks for a great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Kevin and Hazel,

Thank you for a lovely holiday at Ocaso. The villa layout was perfect and of such a high standard. We had a great time enjoying the views and there was plenty of space for the children to run about. We couldn’t have asked for more.

We hope to use Ocaso again as it fulfilled a much needed holiday.

Thank you so much.
