The exceptional medieval town developed in their honour. Be awed by the medieval complex of Santa Scolastica which includes three monasteries, a church, a hostel for pilgrims and a library which contains copies of the first books printed in Italy in 1465. The castle, called Rocca Abbaziale, residence of the cardinals, was modified into a stately mansion, but from the outside retains its medieval fortified appearance. Subiaco was the source of two of the great Aquaducts providing Rome with Water. In this exceptional medieval town, enjoy Italian life in numerous trattorias, restaurants, cafes, the weekly market, and regular festivals.

Our holiday in the cottage on a mountain with a beautiful view was in one word fantastic. The cottage is about 7 km away from Subiaco. You live on your own, it is very quiet. We were here with two boys in the age of 14 and 16 years old. The cottage was clean, there was some fresh fruit and a bottle of wine. The owner gave us a very warm welcome. The swimming pool was a pleasure to swim in. The kitchen is a bit small, but it is very cheap, compared with Holland, to have dinner in a restaurant in Subiaco. It is already possible to have dinner for 10 euro's per person drinks included. The weather in august was constantly 25 till 30 degrees. In one hour you can drive to Rome which is a fantastic city. Leave the car at the subway parking and buy a subway ticket for 6 euro. The monastery in Subiaco is also impressive, you must see it with your own eyes. I certainly will recommend this cottage to friends and family.
