Fantastic villa and hosts

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised to be met by Mate Lukas, the villa owner, at Split airport. He waited for us to collect our hire car and then escorted us back to the villa, showing us the local area and pointing out good restaurants and bars as we drove past. This was over and above our expectations and greatly appreciated. Mate continued to be of great help throughout our holiday, with suggestions of where to go, but was always respectful of our privacy.

The villa was wonderful. It is spacious, comfortable and maintained to a very high standard. Our children loved the pool and would have spent all day in there if they could!! The villa is very well situated - close to the sea and good restaurants. We loved the area, with lots to see and do, for all ages. Thank you for a great stay Mate and family, we hope to return soon for another great holiday!

Another excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

Having previously holidayed at Villa Lukas for a week in 2016, we loved it that much we decided to reserve the Villa for another 7 days in 2017.

Mate, the host was excellent and met us at the airport and took our bags to the Villa while we went for lunch at a local restaurant.

When we checked in, everything was as expected, clean, plenty of amenities and wifi as per the previous year.

The Villa is excellently decorated and within good walking distance of beaches, restaurants, bars and shops in Kastella Luksic. Further afield, there are more shops and restaurants in Kastella's Stari and Novi, which are a 20-30 minute walk from the Villa.

Buses run on the main road to Trogir and Split every 20 minutes (route 37) and cost around 14-17 Kuna pp depending on which direction you are heading. From Trogir or Split you can go on boat day trips around the many Dalmatian Islands as we did as well as there being many other tourist attractions on offer.

Overall, another fantastic stay and we look forward to coming back to this beautiful part of the world in the near future. Thanks to Mate and his family for being excellent hosts.

Great Propertyand a Great Host = Great Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We’ve just returned from a week in Kaštel Kambelovac at Villa Lukas - what a great holiday.

Kaštel Kambelovac is the third of 7 "kaštels", counting from East which is part of Kaštela, located on the coast of the Bay of Kaštela between Split and Trogir which are both on UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites. The villa is about 15 mins drive from the airport and was every bit as good as the previous reviewers have said. Mate’s help, support and advice (see previous reviews) was excellent as ever – always there but never intrusive.

We opted to use the local bus (number 37) to get out and about to Split (c.30mins) and Trogir (c.15 mins) with bus stops in both directions around 10 mins walk from Villa Lukas. The bus stop to Trogir was easy to spot but the one to Split was a painted yellow line box on the road – it threw us the first time but quickly got the hang of it.

We did the usual tourist things – Spilt old town, Marjan Hill (which gives fantastic views of Split and the Bay of Kaštela), Trogir, Šibenik and the Skradinski Buk at Krka National Park – all of which were super. There is a nice walk along the front of Kaštela Bay, either side of Kaštel Kambelovac which brings you to some nice bars and café’s as well as a couple of the scene sets used in Game of Thrones. There are a couple of bakeries about 10 mins walk away in nearby Kaštel Lukšić.

Like previous visitors, we went to the Baletna Skola restaurant in Kaštel Kambelovac which is about 10 mins walk away. It can get quite busy at the weekends (we went out of season and all the inside tables were booked on Friday night) but once you’ve eaten there you’ll know why its popular. The other restaurant we liked was the Maslina in Split which served up excellent wood fired pizza at a very reasonable price (service was excellent too) – it’s a bit hidden away in the centre of Split but its popular with the locals and that should tell you all you need to know.

For our trip to Krka NP and Šibenik, we also used (and highly recommend) our taxi driver Antonio (+385 95 514 7525). Excellent service and advice, costing 250 Kuna per person.

The weather was a nice 20 – 25 degrees which was slightly warmer than is usual for the time of year – we experienced the Bora Wind for a couple of days but it actually helped to freshen up the air.

All in all, a great holiday – many, many thanks to Mate and family.

Beautiful villa in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Myself and 5 other (50 something) females stayed at Villa Lukas the first week in September.

From booking the villa through to coming home, Mate the owner and his family were extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, he was happy to arrange for car hire/bikes/taxi if required.

Mate arranged to pick us up from the airport on arrival, on the way to the villa he took us on a detour to show us the local facilities, supermarkets, shops, bars etc. At the end of our stay he took us back to the airport

On day of arrival he gave us a while to settle in and then took us to a large supermarket so that we could stock up for the week

There is a bakery and small supermarkets within about 5 minutes walking distance

The villa and the view are amazing, the pictures on the website do not really do it justice. There is a small pebble beach literally round the corner with many others along the way

We would highly recommend the restaurant Baletna Skola which is a very short walking distance away, we ate here on several evenings working our way through the varied menu

We would also highly recommend the restaurant Stalla (about 20 minutes walk away- passing by several bars on the way)

The villa is situated half way between Split and Trogir, both definite musts for visits whilst there. You will either need a car to visit these two places, or we would highly recommend our taxi driver Antonio (+385 95 514 7525) who was only ever "15 minutes" away when we called him. He also took us for a day trip to KRKA National Park (another must see - approx. 1 hr drive away) which cost us approx. £250 Kuna for the six of us -

Mate and his family live above the villa and they were always on hand if we needed anything or required information etc. but never intrusive.

The pool is wonderful with a beautiful relaxing view of the sea and islands

We would totally recommend a stay at Villa Lukas for family or friends who wish for a relaxing holiday and hospitable owner.

Thank you to you Mate and your family

Lovely Villa

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week at this villa In Kastella. The villa is great. Very clean, comfortable, well maintained and has everything we needed for our time here. The villa occupies the whole downstairs and Mate and his family live upstairs. They are a delightful family and as other reviewers have noted they are very helpful but unobtrusive. Mate's english is excellent. Mate picked us up from Trogir and happy to arrange Taxi's and bike hire. All the outside facilities (pool, terrace and BBQ) are left for your own use and so it does feel very private.

There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance serving typical dalmatian food and 4-5 bars in Kastel Lucksic 5 minutes walk away. There are a number of pebble beaches within easy walking distance.

We came here for a weeks relaxation by the pool and at the beach having had 2 days in Trogir and a week on a boat visiting a number of the islands and Split. As such we didn't hire a car, however the nearest decent sized supermarkets were probably 45 minute walk and so the car or bus would be helpful for that and if you want to visit Split and Trogir (both of which are fantastic and should be visited if you are in the area) it is about 250 Kuna each way to both in a Taxi.

Overall a lovely week in a great villa

Clean, Spacious with a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday renting a villa after previously opting for package holidays. We were a little apprehensive as we had never done a holiday like this before. We were a family of 6 adults and 1 infant (17 months old). However, we were not disappointed at all with Villa Lukas, and the excellent host Mate and his family.

Any apprehensions were blown away as soon as we arrived at Split airport and Mate was there to meet and us and take us to our accommodation. On arrival we were very happy by the cleanliness and layout of the villa; Plenty of space with all mod cons including dishwasher, Wi-fi, air conditioning and DVD player. To top it off the outside pool, Sun beds and shower were as good as the photo's on the web page suggest.

The parents of the infant were overwhelmed at how child friendly the villa was - a brilliant cot, high chair, spacious living areas and just 3 steps leading from the villa to the patio and pool area, and even though there were 7 of us we did not feel we were living on top of each other.

The villa is set in a fabulous location, with stunning views of the sea and only a 2 minute walk to the pebble beach. There are plenty of amenities within walking distance, including a bakery, mini markets, chemist, restaurants and bars.

We did not hire a car as we had opted for a relaxing villa holiday and spent the majority of our time relaxing by the pool and on the beach. We did hire a boat for the morning and hired bikes on another day, although there are options to rent jet ski's, go on boat cruises and explore the surrounding area of Kastela and Split. In the evening we would eat at the local restaurants which were all excellent, incredibly good value and the local wines and beers, also up to a high standard.

Mate was a brilliant host and did not bother us unless we had any queries - he was only more than happy to organise bike hire for us and taxi's if needed.

Overall, we would highly recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing time away, especially large families and we look forward to returning.

The city of Kaštela lies in the coast of the Kaštela bay under the Kozjak Mountain. With the city of Solin and the cities of Trogir and Split - both on the UNESCO list of protected patrimony makes them an urban complex. Although the area of Kaštela is indisputably a rich archeological site with remains dating back through history - since prehistory to the ancient Greek, Roman and Croatian times - Kaštela is mostly renowned for its fortifications - the castels (Kaštela). Urban settlements Kaštel Štafilić, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Gomilica and Kaštel Sučurac were built at the end of 15th and during the 16 century as a sequence of fortifications - castels, as well as villages surrounded by massive walls that today form the city of Kaštela.

We invite you to take a walking tour at the promenades thru Kaštela and old town central areas that are often praised for their particulary interesting architecture of castles and churches.

All the fortifications and churches are open for public viewing and can be visited, but it is to be mentioned as extraordinary sightseeing spot the little church of Virgin Stomoria, the Biblical garden in Kaštel Novi, the Botanical garden and the Museum of the city of Kaštela in Kaštel Lukšić. The permanent exhibition of the museum is the testimony praising the history of our town. Cultural and entertainment shows (exhibitions, concerts, fishermen's parties), diverse sportive and recreational possibilities (tenis, sailing, hiking, ...), as well as parties on the terraces of the taverns accompained by homemade food specialties, make Kaštela an interesting place for everyone.

In addition, excellent trafic connections (Split Airport - Kaštela, highway, railroad) shall enable an extremly fast arrival to all chance travelers passing by our town.

The natural beach resort can be reached within two minutes from house, an excellent restaurant in five and the town center in ten minutes by walking.

The beach which is 100 meters away from the house is marked by water of excellent quality, with natural shade from the sunshine during the day due to nearby trees. There is a 15 km long path specifically aimed for riding and walking along the coast.

All seven little historical cities with medieval castels can be seen either by walking or riding.
