THE NAUTICAL BASE OF REALS

At the locality of Réals, dolomitic chaos where the rock forms deep grooves, the Orb rushes into a passage forming impressive rapids. A little further is the bridge of Réals, beautiful work of the late 19th century. The wild setting of the site is ideal for fishing and relaxing on the picnic area. Regularly, the base of Réals hosts competitions of canoe-kayak on the rapids.

ROQUEBRUN

It is a charming little town in an attractive setting on the river Orb, known locally as "Nice de l'Hérault". It is possible to swim there. After visiting Roquebrun, we recommend visiting the villages of Minerve and Olargues. Both are among the most beautiful villages in France.

THE HERIC GORGES (near Olargues)

Whether you are hikers, climbers or simply lovers of remarkable landscapes, come and discover this exceptional natural site! Since 1993, Les Gorges d'Héric and a large part of the massif of Caroux are a classified site. Stroll along the stream, to discover the many waterfalls and chasms. The Gorges d'Héric are also a place of bathing (unsupervised). Enjoy sunny days to cool off in the natural pools.

THE ECLUSES OF FONSERANES

This is the major work of the Canal du Midi.

It has eight egg-shaped basins, nine doors, which allow to cross a difference in height of 21.50 m, over a length of more than 300 m. The majesty of the place, the technical prowess it represented in terms of civil engineering, still capture the visitors of the site today. Traditional buildings such as the Coche d'eau, the stables, the lock keeper's house still exist ... This set makes the locks of Fonseranes the 3rd most visited tourist site in Languedoc-Roussillon.

THE MONTADY POND

Old briny marsh, responsible for epidemics, it is cleaned up as early as 1270. Ditches arranged "in sun" are dug to make exploitable 420 ha of land. The network of channels allows the drainage of water from the periphery to the center. They are then directed to the stream of the Grande Maïre which joins a gallery of 1300 meters. The set is now a masterpiece of hydro-agricultural equipment designed in the Middle Ages. Since the archaeological site of the Oppidum Ensérune, the view is remarkable.

CIRCUS OF NAVACELLES

At the heart of the Causses and Cévennes UNESCO World Heritage site, the Cirque de Navacelles is an old meander that the Vis dug into the limestone of the Causse. Today, the waves of the river have abandoned it, offering us this wonder of nature.

THE CIRCUS OF MOUREZE

Make your imagination speak! 8 km from Clermont l'Hérault, gigantic dolomitic columns stretch over nearly 300 hectares. They form a natural landscape, chaotic and tormented, produces erosion. Huge sculptures take the form of ruined houses, medieval towers, grinning heads, bizarre animals. It is also a reference site for geographers and geologists. 2 circuits-walks are proposed starting from Mourèze. A hike from Liausson leads to the ruins of a hermitage, offers a remarkable view of the circus and Lake Salagou. This site is very hot in the summer, the walks are recommended in half-season.

LAKE SALAGOU

In a vast expanse of water surrounded by hills of arid red rocks, Lake Salagou offers an extraordinary palette of colors, combinations of several geological phenomena: the brick red of "ruffes" (clay sediments loaded with iron oxide) The basalt black is of volcanic origin and blends perfectly with the blues of the sky and the waves. This artificial lake was created in the late 1960s to allow irrigation of surrounding crops. It also regulates the floods of the Lergue river and the Hérault river.

THAU PONDS

Covering 7500 hectares, the Thau basin is primarily the largest pond in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

It has also been a breeding ground for oysters and shells since ancient times. Two thousand people work on shellfish farms, mainly family farms. Between Bouzigues, Mèze and Marseillan, the oyster beds stretch out as far as the eye can see, like small, neat gardens, at the water's edge.

SETE

Browse Sète through its history, its emblematic places, the eras that shaped it, this is the new appointment of Tuesday proposed by the tourist office. A guided tour accessible to all. The children discover the heritage of Sète while having fun around puzzles to solve.
