EARSDON HOUSE Belford - Just a Short Drive From the Stunning Beach at Bamburgh

Updated: 27-Oct-2016
Sleeps 5+2, 4 Bed, 3 Bath - Excellent Amenities, Local Attractions, Superb Beach

Earsdon House is an attractive, period property centrally located in the charming village of Belford in North Northumberland. It is perfectly placed for exploring coast and country and sits just a ten minute drive from the stunning beaches of Bamburgh and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. With doorstep amenities and good road links, Earsdon is an excellent base for guests to enjoy the advantages of rural village life, but with easy access to the vast number of attractions and activities of the wider area.

The property is well-presented and offers spacious, comfortable accommodation for up to 7 guests (please note bedrooms 3 and 4 are best suited to children). There is plenty of space for families and larger groups with a charming sitting room with a cosy wood burning stove for the cooler months, separate dining room, very well-equipped kitchen and a small sun room. The four pretty bedrooms are a pleasing mix of old and new and the overall style is both warm and inviting. Outside a small terrace provides a sheltered spot for dining al fresco.

The pretty village of Belford offers a good range of local amenities including the excellent Sunnyhills Farm Shop and Cafe which sells fabulous local produce, gifts and excellent coffee and tasty food. It was awarded North East Champion of Local Food 2013 and is also a recognised tourist information point where you can obtain leaflets and make bookings for outings. The village also offers amongst others a beauty salon, craft shop, small Co-op supermarket, two pubs and a hotel bar and restaurant. There are good local walks from the house; further details are available in the information book provided by the owner.

Activities and Attractions

An appealing feature of Earsdon House is its proximity to the stunning heritage coastline and the outstanding scenery of Northumberland’s National Park. For walking, it provides an ideal gateway to the Cheviot Hills and the extensive walking routes available there, including ‘The Big One’, ‘The Muckle Cheviot Circuit, and ‘The Three Burns Horseshoe’. You can link into St. Cuthbert’s Way from Wooler or St Cuthbert’s Cave near Holborn. For coastal hikes, take time out to spot the rich birdlife on the Northumberland Coast Path or perhaps enjoy more relaxed strolls on the stunning beaches of Bamburgh or Holy Island.

Golf enthusiasts are well catered for with Belford, Goswick and Bamburgh nearby, and easy access to an incredibly varied choice of PGA, links and parkland courses right across the Borders and Northumberland. For fishing, head to the lakes at Chatton which offers fly fishing for trout, or try Coldingham Loch for bank or boat fishing - both extremely helpful and friendly. River fishing is available on the Till or world-renowned Tweed system, a short drive away.

For a little bit of history, pay a visit to the dramatic castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh or Chillingham where you can discover tales of bloody battles and royal rebellion, or enjoy the stunning stately homes and gardens of Belsay, Cragside, Wallington or Paxton House. Perhaps stop-off along the way to partake of some fine local produce in one of the many pubs or restaurants in the area - everything from fish and chips to fining dining experiences! The very popular Barn at Beal is nearby with amazing views over to Holy Island, and there are also good local amenities in the village of Belford, including the excellent Sunnyhills Farm Shop with tempting treats from its deli, food hall and gift hall - perfect for that special picnic lunch!

For riding, Swinhoe, Kimmerston and Slate Hall riding centres all come recommended, offering lessons, treks and wonderful beach rides. For action-based sports, surfing and kitesurfing is available at Budle Bay, Beadnell and Bamburgh, while canoeing can be arranged on the nearby coastal waters or river systems. There are also extensive cycling and mountain biking trails in and around the area, with the Coast and Castles route a firm favourite.

Further information on things to see and do across the wider area can be found on our ‘Activities’ pages.

A most charming and wonderful family house, very well presented and thoughtfully equipped.

We were delighted with the property and found Belford a charming village. We stayed in the area because of a local wedding and our adult children were able to join us. Weather was poor but there was never a dull moment! We played music, walked, cooked and even did jigsaws. The Blue Bell Inn served good food and the local people were lovely. This is a real 'home from home's and we are planning our return. Many thanks to the owners

What a lovely house to stay in, the owner has literally thought of everything. The welcome pack was delightful, far more than expected. The beds were really comfortable and lots of towels provided. The Bluebell in the village did delicious food, and all 3 pubs were dog friendly. Belford is a great base to visit Bamburgh, Berwick and surrounding countryside. Will definately stay again.

Great multi-generational holiday

We really enjoyed our stay in Earsdon House. Thank-you for the home baked scones, and supplies left for us. The house had everything we could have asked for. The house was warm, comfortable and spacious. The wifi was speedy which helped entertain the children when we came back from long days exploring the area. We enjoyed trips to Alnwick castle and gardens, cycling to Bramborough and Seahouses and pizza at Milan's in Wooler.
