Overview

About the property

3 DOUBLE BEDROOMS, 3 BATHROOMS, Sleeps 6-7

Villa Etoile du Sud is in a tranquil setting of two acres of olive and fruit trees, with stunning views of the village and Maures hills, minutes from the village. If you're looking for somewhere special for family or friends then this is it. Just read the reviews. Beautiful Provencal villages abound, St Tropez and beaches 40-45min, vineyards, golf, watersports, horse-riding, family entertainment - all nearby. Don't miss visiting the Gorge du Verdon about 40 minutes to the north with spectacular views, and outdoor activities from pedaloes on the lake to white water rafting on the river. The villa is 1 hour from Nice airport, 1hr 20 from Marseille and for those lucky enough to fly into the provencal airport at Toulon it's an hour. The pool is 10m a 5m, HEATED from May-Oct with salt water and an electric security cover. The villa is furnished and equipped to a high standard for easy home from home living. It's light and spacious and sleeps 6 people comfortably. A child's z-bed and/or cot are also available as is a high chair. There is Central Heating and duvets if you wish to stay during the cooler months. Throughout the year the skies are invariably blue - it's not called the Cote d'Azur for nothing. We have SKY TV wich includes SKY Sports, a DVD Film Library and plenty of books. There is a Stereo system with CD/Cassette (I-pod compatible) and to keep your valuables safe there is a Wall safe. The phone will accept incoming and outgoing calls and we offer free WiFi. CHANGEOVER IS GENERALLY FRIDAY TO FRIDAY FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER. POOL OPENS IN MAY AND HEATED MAY TO OCTOBER

Sports: The famous Gorge du Verdon offers Canyoning, Rafting Kayaking, sailing and swimming and beautiful sightseeing. The close lake of St Cassien also offers watersports. Bicycles, tennis courts and crazy golf available at Figanieres (5km) and we believe there's a new riding establishment about 1km out of the village. There are at least 8 golf courses within an hours drive. The nearest is the beautiful 18 hole course at St Endreol, La Motte (10-15mins). St Endreol also has a Day Spa with Spa Packages from €59. The Terre Blanche at the Four Seasons Hotel at Fayence (approx 25 mins) is stunning and now reportedly one of the best in the Provence/Cote d'Azur area. A keen golfing client recommended Taulane as one of the most beautiful he's ever played and with wonderful restaurant. In winter Downhill Skiing available at Praloup, Isola 2000 and Auron (2hrs drive) or more locally at Greolieres (45mins). Ever been gliding? Try it at Fayence. Callas has it's own Tourist Office.

Medical: Callas has a medical centre and dentist. The doctor speaks some English. A general hospital with Emergency department is at nearby Draguignan (15-20 minutes). Nearest Pharmacies are at Bargemon (5mins drive) and Figanieres (10 mins drive).

Wine: There are hundreds of wine Domaines in the region. You'll pass 6 or 7 just driving from the motorway to the house. In the villa is a book 'The Top 100 Vineyards in Provence' which is just a tiny fraction of what's available or read what other guests have enjoyed in our visitors wine book. Dame Jeanne in the village has an enviable selection. Plenty of sampling on offer. Try the Maison des Vins at Les Arcs which is laid out like a library of wine from only the Provence region. They have at least a dozen wines on tasting.

About Debbie Stratford

We live in the UK and both work in TV production. We found this house in 2003. It was unloved but in a fabulous spot with outstanding views and loads of potential to make it a comfortable home from home which is what we lovingly did. Unfortunately we have little time to visit ourselves during the summer so we have chosen to rent to others who would like to experience and explore this beautiful part of France.

Debbie Stratford purchased this villa in 2004

Why Debbie Stratford chose Callas

The views, the views, the views. In the height of summer it's away from the crowds of the coast but has so much you can see and do. Don't miss visiting the stunning Gorge du Verdon and Lac St Croix about an hour to the north. Often we and quite a few guests choose not to go anywhere and just stay put! The villa sits in an olive grove of nearly two acres and is not overlooked making it beautifully private but not remote as the village is just a few minutes away. We hope we've thought of everything to make it a home from home. We have numerous guests coming back time and time again so we think we're getting it right. One client returned for the ninth time this summer.

What makes this villa unique

Because we've tried to make it a home from home you hopefully won't think it feels like a rental property lacking this and that but where you can settle right in. Gill our villa manager is English, will meet you on arrival and because she lives locally is a source of information plus she is on hand should you have any little mishaps and need some help.

Heavenly!

  • 5 of 5

In keeping with its celestial name, this place is heavenly - we have just had 11 wonderful days there and loved every minute of it. The villa sits on a hillside overlooking the town of Callas. It is well equipped, very comfortable and offers wonderful indoor-outdoor flow. It is clean and well maintained by Gill, the lovely caretaker. Eating under the mulberry arbour was delightful and late afternoon drinks on the sunny patio became a daily ritual. Being Antipodeans, we made use of the BBQ, purchasing our produce from the local markets- we particularly liked the market in Fayence. The pool is superb - salt-water and heated - it simply entices you to relax, and you can't resist. The village is delightful with a lively and colourful Saturday market. We frequented the friendly local cafe daily for coffee, and ate our pastries there, which we bought from the nearby bakery - just a few minutes walk from the villa. We dined at La Grupie in the village and loved both the food and the friendly service. Callas is a perfect base for exploring local villages, the Riviera and the magnificent Gorges du Verdon. We drove the southern side and took an electric boat ride through the Gorges - utterly amazing, plus we enjoyed the towns of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Aups. L'Etoile du Sud is definitely a star. Thanks Debbie!

Owner's Response: We're thrilled you had such a gorgeous stay at Etoile and that you saw so much of the gorgeous surrounding areas. The Gorges du Verdon truly is spectacular isn't it. Good hint about the electric boat ride, up until now we've only white river rafted which is also amazing, although a little wetter I suspect!

Very enjoyable and relaxing stay at Etoile du Sud

  • 5 of 5

Etoile du Sud was like a comfortable beach house in sunny Provence. Meaning it was peaceful, relaxing and had a lovely outdoors feel with its different terraces and places to sit– a sunny spot for breakfast with views, a shady table under the mulberry trees for lunch, another space with comfortable chairs for an evening apero gazing at the panorama in ever-changing light. We were there in April so too early for the pool and its lounges. The access road was a bit daunting the first couple of times but not a problem after that, and it’s quite rutted after winter storms so needed to be taken slowly. The house is clean, well-equipped, the appliances work fine and the furniture and bedding are comfortable. It’s conveniently located between two villages – Callas itself and the slightly larger Bargemon – which between them offer a range of eateries and stores for provisions. Clotilde’s croissants are superb and getting advice from Dame Jeanne about her wine was fun. Further afield there is plenty to explore. We skipped the Gorges du Verdon having visited them previously, but on this occasion enjoyed the local countryside, e.g. the drive via Chateaudouble to Villecroze (good lunch at La Place in the square) and the beautiful Seillans (highly recommend Chez Hugo, we lunched there twice). Debbie was a great host, patient with all my questions, responsive and prompt in her replies. Gill greeted us on arrival and was most helpful in explaining how things worked. All in all, an excellent holiday in a beautiful part of Provence.

Star of the South is Heaven x

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two children , 11 and 6 and I spent a fantastic week at this stunning villa. Everything about the place was perfect, the heated pool, comfortable loungers with parasols, every sort of outdoor furniture you could want, the outdoor gas BBQ, Sky TV, DVD's, books , 3 bathrooms a fantastically equipped kitchen, where do I stop!! And I haven't even mentioned the view yet...... which is beautiful.

The nearby village of Callas has everything you need, a bakery for bread and croissants, a shop and some lovely restaurants, our favourites being La Fontaine and La Grupie. With the dramatic Gorges du Verdon and the Cote d'Azur only half an hours drive away the location is perfect for exploring.

I would highly recommend a stay at Etoile Du Sud and can't wait to book another holiday there!

Another month in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Having had such a wonderful time at L’Etoile three years ago, it was with a little trepidation that we approached our one month stay this year. We need not have worried!

Everything was just as we remembered it- the comfortable rooms, the expansive views, the peace and calm and the magnificent pool. We again had some friends join us for a few days at a time -most had been on the previous occasion and were more than happy to rekindle old memories, while those new to L’Etoile were delighted with the amenities of this superb villa.

We found some picturesque new restaurants to visit as well as returning to those we had enjoyed before, and had numerous coffee stops at the many local villages. And, as ever, Gill was available to help out with assistance or advice.

L’Etoile lived up to all our high expectations-it really is a home, not a rental. Next time we go back, there will be no trepidation, only anticipation!

Southern French gem!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived to a very warm welcome at Villa Etoile, a beautifull and very well equipped Villa set in a olive grove and overlooking the unspoilt village of Callas.

The stunning heated pool and garden terrace made it easy to relax and take in the stunning views. Although Callas is a small village it offers plenty of choice of restaurants, all to a high standard with friendly locals and plenty of atmosphere.

We had to drag ourselves away at the end of our holiday, the villa was homely, offering every comfort with amazing weather. We would highly recommend staying at Villa Etoile, it's a gem in the South of France not to be missed.

Callas is a pretty medieval Provencal village with a grocery, patisserie, post office with 24hr banking, Newsagent, Tourist Office, restaurants, Beauty Salon etc. There's a market in the square every Saturday. Only a 10 min drive is Draguignan, the old capital of the Var, where there is a wider selection of shops and supermarkets. There is a plethora of Vineyards and Olive groves , creating a beautiful contrast against the Azure skies plus wonderful opportunities for some wine and oil tasting. Within 45 minutes you can be in the stylish resorts of St. Tropez, St. Maxime, Antibes or Cannes. The boat trip across the bay from St Maxime to St Tropez is fabulous plus you avoid the traffic jams. There's a choice of sandy beaches, the closest being at St Aygulf or Les Issambres. 45mins North you'll discover the spectacular Gorge du Verdon, one of the most beautiful canyon's in Europe. It leads down to the beautiful Lac de St Croix offering plentiful watersports . There's a variety of golf courses within an hour's drive including the highly rated Terre Blanche. The St Endreol Golf Course with its own Day Spa and a wonderful place for lunch (don't forget to book) is only 15 minutes from the villa. For days out with the children there are Waterparks, Zoos, crazy golf etc. Callas has a playground by the church. Or, hire a bike, take a beautiful walk, or sit and do nothing but drink in the quiet, the views and the wonderful local wines. Etoile du Sud is a special place.

Other Activities: beaches 40 minutes.

Gorge du Verdon: Whitewater rafting, mountain biking, sailing, kayaking, picnics

Golf, Horse-riding, Vineyards, pretty Provencal villages
