4 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms, Very Private and Secluded Yet Not Remote.

This really is a beautiful villa. Tucked away from its neighbours about 200 yards down a winding driveway, you could easily believe you are alone in the world in this magical spot where a pretty stream runs though the garden. Yet it is not at all remote with restaurants within 50 yards of the gateway and big towns and nightlife (if you want it) only about a 20 minute trip by car.

The villa has four bedrooms,four bathrooms (2 with baths, 1 with a hydrotherapy shower and 1 with a standard showers). There are three balconies and two patios plus the pool area and barbecue. The living area is a huge open plan room with wood burning stove and satellite TV*. There is a separate dining room and the kitchen has direct access to one of the patios. If you enjoy walking, footpaths from the property lead to trails that cover the whole Monchique eco zone. For shopping, Monchique has an excellent supermarket and numerous small shops, while the large fishing port of Portimao is only about 18km away. Buses stop nearby for Monchique or Portimao, but a car is recommended.

This beautiful villa offers you a very private holiday yet it is not at all remote, with restaurants just over the road from the driveway. It is situated about 2km from the picturesque spa village of Caldas de Monchique and only a short drive from the resorts of Praia da Rocha, Portimao and Alvor. There are several good golf courses within about 20 minutes by car and also several spectacular beaches about the same distance away.

Quinta da Mimosa is located in the beautiful 3000ft Monchique mountains, but being in the foothills it is only 350 feet above sea level and 15 minutes drive from Portimáo, so not at all 'out in the sticks'.

About Alan Philpott

We are a family who live on the Isle of Wight, England. In the late 1980's, Jenny and Alan Philpott along with Alan's mother Joan fell in love with Portugal and The Algarve, in particular. In the late 1980's we were looking for a suitable location to build a large villa for our own use which would be secluded and private. We travelled the length and breadth of the Algarve, looking for the perfect spot. We went up and down dirt roads, often ending up in remote places, miles from anywhere. Eventually we came across just over 12 acres of land in the foothills of the Monchique mountains that once been a farm. It was the perfect place to build our house, but, in those pre-EU days, foreigners were not allowed to own more than one acre of land in Portugal. The only way we could do it was by owning a Portuguese company which in turn could buy as much land as it wanted.

Why Alan Philpott chose Algarve

We had spent a year searching the Algarve for a suitable spot to build a villa. We looked at all sort of places, some lovely ones were so remote we could not face a twenty mile trip to the nearest shop or doctor. Others were in prime seaside positions but with nearby development happening so fast they would soon be in the centre of a housing estate or overlooked by a tower block.

Then we found this magical 12 acre spot with all sorts of fruit trees, cork oaks, pomegranates, orange and lemon groves and of course the lovely mimosas which brighten the place so much at the end of winter. Among the trees were the ruins of the old farmhouse and stables, close to a stream that runs through the land all year. This was the perfect place, so good in fact that we had to build something special. Alan used a lot of sketch books doodling pictures of possible houses before he came up with an idea that would fit in with such a special place. The sketch was turned into rough plans that were finally turned into working drawings by a local architect. After the planning formalities and choosing a builder, work commenced.in 1992. In October that year we were joined by a new member of the family, Christopher. To our surprise, the Portuguese builders were quite reliable with any delays being down to Portuguese bureaucracy and the villa was completed in 1993.

What makes this villa unique

Privacy, beautiful surroundings, yet close to civilzation. Just a short walk up the driveway and there are two restaurants that serve excellent Portuguese food at reasonable rates.

Only 15 - 20 minutes and you are in the city centre of Portimao or on the busy beach at Praia da Rocha or the quiet one at Praia da Vau. A short way up the hill to Monchique there is a supermarket, shops petrol stations and some wonderful views especially from Foia, the highest point of the Algarve. The spectacular west coast beaches are within easy reach

The maid comes 5 mornings per week.. She is very discreet so don't worry if you want to get up late. The garden adjoins the Monchique forest trails system, so if you have the energy, there are some wonderful walks and mountain bike trails. The two nearby restaurants are excellent and good value for money. Fantastic Villa set in scenic woods

We had the please sure of staying at the villa in Aug 16.

Its roughly 1 hr away from Faro airport, and if you follow the supplied instructions its very easy to find.

The villa is very spacious with separate living room and dining room, the lounge comes with satellite TV which gives you the basic BBC and news channels.

The villa comes with Wifi which is 3G based so the connection speeds can be intermittent, its fine for web browsing, IM, snap chat etc, however you may struggle to watch netflix or BBC iplayer i would recommend downloading any films.

The bedrooms again are spacious, and the mattress are nice and firm, my only grip is whilst all the rooms have fans, their is no AC, due to the location of the villa its quite cool at night however towards the end of our stay it the temperature reached the late 30s and we would have preferred AC.

cleaning lady visits every day to clean the villa and change bedding and she can help resolve any issues and also advise on places to go and see, when we arrived at the villa some of the sun beds where damaged and she arranged for new ones the next day. a few more parasouls would be good.

The villa is clean and the photos fairly depict the furniture and style of the villa.

The pool is a lagoon style pool in a figure 8 shape, its split into 2 halfs, the first half is shallow about 70cm deep so ideal for young kids, the 2nd half is 1.80cm deep so older kids can jump. The pools roughly about 8m long so you can really do lenghts in it.

It looks amazing at night with the pool lights on so some great pictures..

The best thing about the villa is its locations, its away from any main stream tourist bars and restaurants and .so if you want to experience the real Portugal this is the villa for you. There are a number of local restaurants on the main rd, and they are great value for money and very friendly.

One of the gems about this is villa is its very secluded so at night the Sky comes alive and if you go to the top balcony its great for Star gazing.

If you want to go a bit more main stream the large town of Albufeira and Portimao are roughly 30-40 mins away in a car and approx 20euros in a Taxi.

Another great drive is mount Foia which is approx 1000m and if you have the nerve to drop to the top you will be rewarded with some amazing views.

The owners provide a fantastic guide to the villa and how to use the facilities and also the local area, which has some handy tips about locations to see and visit.

Peace and tranquillity

Spacious villa with wonderful pool and spa set in 12 acres of private grounds. Owner Alan very helpful, promptly responding to all requests and especially helpful with providing information on the local area and restaurants. Maid service 5 times a week. Villa within walking distance of a couple of restaurants and the bus stop. Very private, unpretentious villa made for a relaxing stay.

Awesome holiday!

This property was very private and we were blessed with gorgeous weather for nearly the entire month that we were there. The villa was clean and well kept. Only draw back would be that it was quite cool during the early morning and after sunset. There are electric heaters, but the system can only handle a couple heaters plugged in at a time. So just remember to bring cozy clothes for when the sun has disappeared! Close to loads of beaches and restaurants. The owners were awesome to deal with, we would absolutely recommend this villa!

A palace in the mountain

The house was beautiful, spacious and clean. There was everything we needed for our holiday. Much much better than the pics show. Pool and jacuzzi fab. Very tranquil you could only hear the sounds of nature. Wish I could live there.

Excellent!

A wonderful stay! Ideal for relaxing, after a day of travel. Despite the absolute privacy and tranquility, it's located close to the road and it takes 25-30 minutes to get to the beach. We preferred to Meia Praia, although there are many other equally interesting beaches. Just not far from the house is a termal Caldas De Monchique Spa Resort and Monchique mountain with stunning views. The nature around is amazing. The house is large, very clean and bright. Bedrooms are comfortable, with nice balconies. Kitchen is well equipped. Lovely pool, great place for a barbecue. Huge convenient parking. The place is so picturesque that do not want to leave. The owner, Alan, responds immediately to every email. He is very kind and provide exellent service. I would recommend this house to all those who seek tranquility, serenity and comfort.
