About this property

Castle, Swimming Pool, Stars, Olive Trees, Bikes, Winery Route, Relax, Evora

Welcome to my favorite place on earth.

The property has 2 houses, fully autonomous and independent.
Casas de Santa Rita is a rural retreat located in the wine region, in the heart of Alentejo (the most beautiful non mainstream region of Portugal), in the beautiful historic village of Evoramonte, 150 km from Lisbon, 25 km from Evora and 15 km from Estremoz.

In our homes (fully autonomous and independent) it is possible to disconnect from the busy days and return to feel the tranquility and the nature. We take the comfort of our guests very seriously, and for that reason our accommodation units (rooms and houses) are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Outside, in addition to the garden, we have a pool overlooking an olive grove and mountains and the world's most starry sky.

Ideal for serious rest, read the books you´ve had not time, hear the birds, take a swim and watch the stars while you drink a bottle of wine and stare to a beautiful sunset. The landscape is a combination of olive and cork trees, and we have a plantation of goji berries.

Excellent accommodation in the heart of Alentejo.
Our stay was really great. The reception by the host Miguel was very friendly. The location is excellent for those who want to rest in the calm of Alentejo but it's easy to travel to some of Portugal's main historical sites: Évora; Estremoz; Vila Viçosa; Évoramonte; Arraiolos; Montemor-o-Novo, etc. The accommodations are nice and clean. The pool and the space around it are perfect for the summer.

An experience in paradise
It was really a wonderful experience of Portugal and Alentejo. From the location we were able to roam free in all the region and easily went to Lisbon. What's even better is that after an long day on the road, there was always the pleasure to go take a swim! Everything was perfect!

A fabulous setting , great food, and the best people
We arrived on Jan 4 for 3 month stay and were met by Miguel's father. His welcome was so warm and friendly, we felt at home immediately. The house exceeded our expectations. We have rented homes in several countries, but here we found almost everything you could think of at our disposal. The dishes provided were very nice and plentiful. Various appliances including a coffee grinder, juicer, toaster, coffee machine, single cup coffee machine, hot water heater, etc. were available. Sra Antonia kept the house and our clothes clean and was delightful. Although we arrived in winter, the house was warm and the bedding was wonderful. Miguel even provided rain suits for our use. My sister and I used them on a few rainy days. The house is set up well for two couples and two singles or two children (we had my sister and 2 friends stay with us for part of our time). We also never had a problem with hot water or water pressure. You could look out the windows or step out the doors and be greeted by the castle just above us. Next door, the farmer had three ewes, which all had lambs while we were there. We met new lambs and baby goats pretty much where ever we went and were highly amused by their antics. The house is well situated and a short drive to Estremoz or Evora for groceries. A small grocery in the village also provides much of what you need on a daily basis. We found the Café O Emigrante in the village a wonderful place for meals. Iana speaks English, French, Spanish, and probably a few others, which makes ordering easier. We recommend taking time to explore the walled city and wander through its castle. The views alone are worth the trouble. Vila Vicosa, Elvas, Marvao, Monsaraz, Evora, Merida, Montemor-o-novo are just a few places we would recommend seeing as well as the antas and caves. We chose this spot as our center for explorations and found it to be a marvelous base. You are only 60 km from the Spanish border, you are close to a toll road and there are several other roads leading in every direction you will want to go. There are several roads/paths to walk around the house and village and Miguel also provided us with a link to a site "Alentejo a Pie" for walks/hikes throughout the region. We tried a few and really enjoyed ourselves. We left on March 25. We were sad to leave this beautiful place with its warm people, great food, and fabulous areas to explore. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this home.

A place to come back
I didn't think it was possible for Santa Rita to be more impressive in real life than it is in the photographs but it is. We spent the christmas holiday and new years eve there. The bedrooms are all well appointed, and kitchen is complete. The outdoor eating area is just the perfect place to relax. Then there's the pool. And the olive trees...What a hidden gem. We spent countless hours out there enjoying the wonderful Portuguese night views and stars. On top of this fabulous house, the owner, Miguel is super helpful. He was a great resource when I wanted to put together a wine tour of the region, helping me find and communicate with vineyards, organise transport and many other things. At the last minute the maid, Antonia looked after our dog so we could spend the day in Lisbon, they made sure the fridge was stocked with everything we needed and kept the place tidy. Overall a fabulous holiday was had at Santa Rita
