In a 16th century Farm (Bastide Provençale), at the feet of the superb medieval village of Le Castellet, at 5 minutes driving distance from Bandol and the beaches:

charm and authenticity in the homeland of novel writer and film maker Marcel Pagnol. We offer you to share the unique atmosphere left by our ancestors in 3 charming provence style apartments and a historical cottage for 2-8 persons. All 4 carry names of Pagnol’s film caracters and each of them has its own personality.

They all have private shaded terraces and private entrances. They have in common: a large swimming pool (11 x 5,5 m) on a property of 3000 sqm. facing the vineyards and a private parking.

A dream of peaceful and untouched surroundings, where the easiness of live and the famous «accent provençal » cherished by Marcel Pagnol himself still persists. Here, the vineyards of the world famous Bandol and the bronze coloured olive-trees are deployed as far as the eye can see.

Apartment MARIUS is located at the back of the Mas du Galantin and occupies a portion built between the 16th and the 19th century. The well equipped kitchen is the oldest unit of the farmhouse and very charming. All walls of the appartment are painted in the tradition with warm colours and all furniture is painted in the provence style. Fabrics are from “Les Olivades”, a very famous provençal factory from “Tarascon”.

The large living/dining room with a table for 6 perons is the masterpiece of Marius with its panoramic view and its large fireplace. There are 3 sleeping rooms of which 2 preserved the proportions of the ancient times and 1 is mansard-roofed.

The private terrace lies at the shade of a typical provençal pergola furnished with a wrought iron table for 6 persons. It overlooks the peaceful neighbourhood on one hand and a part of the swimming-pool on the other.

About the Owner

I am originally from Provence and Mas du Galantin was my first step towards returning back to my home turfs.

What was first a hobby, became a profession with the acquisition of a second Mas in Bandol. Renovating houses is one of my passions.

Our son is another one. He is a very lively little boy and likes to visit Mas du Galantin from time to time.

What I like most about the rental business is the many encounters it allows. Meeting our guests and seeing them happy during there holidays gives me great satisfaction !

Marius - un petit coin de paradis sous le ciel bleu

Arrivant tard le soir, pour un court séjour pendant les congés de Pentecôte, nous redoutions de ne pas trouver facilement l'adresse, mais les indications de Karyn et Tom étaient très précises. Une bouteille de rosé (Bandol, évidemment) nous attendait dans le salon - petite attention bien appréciée après la route.

Les chambres sont bien équipées et fonctionnelles, et les matelas très confortables, rendant les nuits paisibles et reposantes.

Le salon / salle à manger, aux belles proportions, baigne dans la lumière et invite à la détente, d'autant que différents ouvrages, où les auteurs provençaux sont bien représentés, sont à disposition dans la bibliothèque.

La cuisine est généreusement équipée et nous avons même noté la présence de deux frigidaires-congélateurs! Il n'y a qu'une salle de bain, mais cette dernière offre suffisamment de rangement pour la cohabitation de 6 personnes.

Côté jardin: la grande piscine, sécurisée par 2 alarmes, très bien entretenue et partagée avec les locations Fanny et César, est très agréable, même si elle était encore un peu fraiche en ce début de mois de mai! Nous avons particulièrement apprécié, en ces jours de mistral, le fait qu'elle soit abritée du vent. Enfin, la tonnelle adjacente à l'appartement offre une ombre bienvenue pour les déjeuners ou les dîners.

Pour finir, un classeur dans le salon recueille suggestions d'excursions, marchés provençaux, itinéraires de randonnées (le sentier littoral, tout proche, est de toute beauté) et autres détails pratiques facilitant le séjour. La région est belle, très belle même, donc il nous a été facile de nous occuper!

A noter que le mas dispose du WIFI, disponible dans toutes les pièces, ce qui pour nous, était un atout.

Nous terminerons cette appréciation en remerciant les propriétaires pour leur accueil chaleureux: nous nous sommes sentis de suite à la maison. Chaque chose est à sa place, rien ne manque... on voit bien que derrière cette apparente simplicité, les choses ont été pensées jusque dans leurs moindres détails. Nous avons hâte de revenir!

Vacanza Perfetta

Eravamo 3 famiglie di amici per un totale di 9 persone. Avevamo prenotato l'appartamento Cesar per poter stare tutti insieme. Purtroppo, a causa di un loro disguido questo non è stato possibile. Ci sono stati assegnati quindi 2 appartamenti: Il Marius e il Fanny che comunque si trovano nella stessa struttura e che per noi sono stati una più che ottima soluzione.

Entrambi gli appartamenti sono molto spaziosi, puliti e completi di qualsiasi necessità. Del Fanny abbiamo utilizzato solo il bagno ed una camera da letto e solo per andarci a dormire in quanto l' appartamento Marius è sufficientemente grande da poterci ospitare tutti. Il grande salone/soggiorno del Marius è stato il cuore della casa con il suo grande e ben funzionante camino. Molto pratica la cucina e ben accessoriata. Splendida la mansarda che hanno occupato i nostri 3 bambini. L'intera proprietà è splendidamente tenuta ed arredata con finiture di pregio. La Signora Vermast è stata molto gentile e carina e ci ha accontentato in tutte le nostre richieste.

Nei 5 giorni passati in Provenza abbiamo visitato La route de Cretes, Les Calanques di Cassis (splendida la camminata fino a D'En Vau), Roussillon e Rustrel con i sentieri dell' Ocra, Aix En Provence, Avignone, Nizza e La Corniche de L' Esterel.

Consiglio vivamente questa proprietà che ci ha permesso di rilassarci al meglio dopo le nostre escursioni e consiglio anche una visita della provenza nel periodo invernale.

Owner's Response: Mille scuse per il disguido e mille grazie per il commento molto completo! IT - E vero che il periodo invernale e molto simpatico in Provenza. Oltre la luce ben speciale, il tempo rimane gradevole e sono organizzati tantissimi attività in questo periodo di Natale et Ano Nuovo. I camini negli appartamenti César e Marius danno una nota romantica alle vacance invernali. FR - Il est vrai que la période hivernale est très sympathique en Provence. Outre la lumière bien particulière, le temps reste agréable et sont organisées une multitude d'activités à la période de Noël et Nouvel An. Les cheminées des appartements César et Marius rajoutent une note romantique aux vacances dans le sud en hiver. DE - Es ist wahr, dass die Winterzeit besonders sympathisch ist in der Provence. Neben dem schönen Licht und dem angenehmen Wetter werden viele Aktivitäten rund um Weihnachten und Neujahr organisiert. Die Kamine in den Wohnungen César und Marius tragen mit einem romantischen Touch zum winterlichen Urlaub im Süden bei. EN - It is true, that winter time is a special period in Provence. A very particular light, comfortable weather and a bunch of activities around Christmas and New Year make the experience quite complete. The fireplaces of apartments César and Marius add a romantic touch to the winter holidays in the South.

Stay in Mas du Galantin May 2012 appt. Marius

We first tried this year to spend some holidays in Provence for Pentecost. It was a wonderful experience with great wheather conditions and not too crowdy, even more while enjoying the cozy atmosphere in Mas du Galantin and its sourroundings like beautiful vineyeards and the Gros Cerveau mountain. Our children (12 and 14) greatly enjoyed the location with its nice swimmingpool and the space of the Marius appartment which gave them some privacy too...

Special tours are recommended to the market of Sanary, the beaches of St Syr - Les Lecques (diving opportunities not to be missed) and last but not least a wine tasting visit to the neighbour vinemaker "Le Galantin" at walking distance with no risk for your licence !

On a historical note we'd like to add that Mas du Galantin (original name "Mas Le Galantin") and Domaine Le Galantin belonged to the same landlord, a seigneur from Marseille, a long time ago. The myth wants that the name came from the landlord's habit to bring his mistresses to that place. Domaine Le Galantin nowadays is owned and run by the Pascal Family and it is Jérôme Pascal who conducts the visit of the cellars with a lot of passion and competence. Their vines are among the best in the region in terms of value for your money!

Beautiful Provence

Mas du Galantin is situated in a beautiful landscape, overlooking the vineyards of Southern Provence. One can see the medieval hilltop village of Castellet from the house.

The apartments (we stayed in two) are very tastefully appointed. I found the kitchens (I am the family cook) outfitted well beyond the "kitchens" I have experienced in other rentals. For me this is very important.

The local bakery is awesome and the house is not far from the nice beaches on the Cote d'Azur.

We visited in early April, so the weather was on the cool side and we didn't get to use the beautiful pool, but we intend on returning in the Fall and the weather should be warmer, but not as hot as the summer.

A local property manager is very friendly and quick to attend to any of our questions and needs.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for this great comment. The apartments the guest is referring to are Marius and Fanny. The kitchens of apartment César and cottage Panisse are equally well equipped. And yes, the waters (pool and sea) are warmer in fall than in spring. The bathing season usually lasts until october. Holidays in spring benefit from the renaissance of the green and flourishing nature. Thus, each season has its special features in Provence. Welcome back after the summer!

I always dreamt of owning an old Mas. Mas du Galantin is the realisation of my dream. The renovation of the Mas took all in all about 2 years and I continuously improve the quality and the comfort of the premises. To preserve the style of Provence is very important for me. I am a fan of gardens and put all my love into the garden of Mas du Galantin. And here again the provence touch is important as I use only plants from our region. From the first visit on, I felt very positive vibrations at Mas du Galantin and many of our guests confirmed me this. You are close to the beaches, the pulsing life and the tourist attractions but when coming back to the Mas your relaxation time starts immediately.

MAS DU GALANTIN is located at Le Plan du Castellet, small village located between the famous medieval village of Le Castellet (2 min driving distance) and the famous seaside resort of Bandol (5 min driving distance). Easily accessible (via A50 Marseille-Toulon highway or 45 min. driving distance from Marseille airport), it is surrounded by and presents beautiful views of the vineyards of the famous Bandol AOC as well as the Gros Cerveau mountain chain. Lots of sports activities within short distance and very diverse sightseeing spots nearby.

The Bandol area has a wonderful microclimate with pluviometry not exceeding 650 m/m per year. Bandol is a true seaside resort. Many sand beaches, cliffs, inlets and creeks are all part of this natural environment and are surrounded by hills of pines and willows.
