'The Garden of France' is famous for its legendary châteaux (over 150 of them), which guard a fascinating array of secrets. With its sparkling wine and delightful countryside, its the perfect place to rest and relax.

The Primetiere Manor House is a 16th century nobleman's house with a tufa (stone) tower on the south front edge and an unusual opened stone step on the grounds. This building is surrounded by 50 acres of fields, cultures and woods.

On site there is : a swimming pool (10 m x 5 m, shared with owners), badminton, a tennis table with other games, a play area for children with a sandpit and a swing.

About Augonnet

With my husband, I settled in this manor given by my grand mother and we restored it for 30 years.

I used to teach in primary schools. I can help your children to speak a little more french, why not ?

When I was 15, I had a crush on this very old farm (16th century) and I just wanted to live here with my future family.

Augonnet purchased this apartment in 1985

Why Augonnet chose Maine-et-Loire

We decided to have a rental, as my sister (Benedicte Goodwin, Chateau Vary).

We had an inoccupied large room which became the living room and the kitchen.

We shared incredible moments with all our guests during 15 years!

What makes this apartment unique

A typical 500 years old manor from Anjou with tufa stones and "fenêtres à meneaux", surrounded by a lovely flowered garden (swimming pool in the middle, a safe hidden troglodyte, a little farm greedy animals!).

A wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

What a glorious gem hidden in the countryside. Dominique, the owner, was lovely and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. My children loved her as much as we did. They fed and milked goats, talked to Nutella the pony, were introduced to the baby rabbits and held hour old chicks in their hands.

The house and pool are wonderful and in the most beautiful setting. The owners live on site but they are not intrusive in any way. The tiny village of Jarze has an excellent butcher and boulangerie and a small Proxi supermarket for essential supplies. The bigger town of Bauge has everything you need. There are daily markets in the beautiful surrounding villages. We went to La Fleche and Beaufort en Valle.

There is a games room with all sorts including table tennis table, a child's bike, go kart and scooter. It was a tranquil week in a perfect setting. We will be returning.

Fabulously relaxing - 5 *****

  • 5 of 5

We had such a relaxing stay at la Primetiere I cannot recommend it enough. The hosts are warm, welcoming, yet inobtrusive and respectful of your privacy. Each morning we awoke to the pool being cared for, ready for us to enjoy again - a major draw for our 7 and 10 year old children! After a busy day out, or one chilling by the pool, we enjoyed barbequeues in the evenings whilst being entertained by the owners cats chasing butterflies, moths and crickets. Often we were provided with fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden - peaches, plums, courgettes - gorgeous! The property is full of character and was more than roomy enough for the 4 of us. If you're after a peaceful retreat with access to nearby towns and activities la Primitiere provides exactly that. We enjoyed canoeing down the Loire from Menitre (near Saumur) and hiring bikes at Gennes. We also visited the Troglodyte village & the BioParc zoo (fantastic) at Doue la Fontaine and several chateaux. The children also enjoyed visiting the owners' ponies, goat and sheep in the grounds to the rear of the property. A truly relaxing holiday - thank you!
