Georgian terraced family cottage - 3 minutes walk from beach

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, sleeps a maximum of 8

This delightful Georgian cottage (Visit England 4 star rating), is one of a picturesque row close to the church and overlooking a quiet square. It is very warm, comfortable and well equipped. Charming enclosed garden and separate annexe sleeping further 3 people. One of the best locations in Lyme; choice of two totally different beaches- one famous for fossils, each only 2/3 minutes walk. Shops just around the corner.

'Appletrees' is gas centrally heated and provided with everything you will need in the way of bed linen, towels, duvets, pans, crockery and cutlery. In the kitchen there is a 4 ring gas hob and built-in electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The spacious dining area with long table and bench seats is open through to the lounge, where ample comfortable seating and colour TV create a cosy family room. A door leads upstairs to bedrooms, bathroom and garden. The pretty patio garden, equipped with table, chairs and benches, is safe and enclosed.

Across the garden the 'boathouse' comprises day room, bedroom for 3, shower and laundry.

Lyme Regis is a lovely little town with something for everyone. Apart from the attractions of beach, harbour, pubs, cliff top rambles and golf course, the town itself is full of picturesque buildings and little alleyways. Close to 'Appletrees' runs the river, on its way through the town. Here you will meet Lyme's other residents - ducks!

Thank you for the New Year Champagne and Chocolates. When we asked our 3 ½ year old what she liked the best about the holiday she said firmly “All of it!” (27th Dec 06 – 3rd Jan 07 Sedgley Family -Sussex)

Thank you for the chocolates. Fantastic weather and lovely to be able to walk into Appletrees and feel at home! (2nd Feb 07 – 4th Feb 07 Quinn - London)

Wonderful! Well equipped and loads of room and atmosphere. Lovely to come back to the end of a rainy Day!! (16th Feb 07 – 23rd Feb 07 Susan Brett, Annie Holley, Mandy Wall, Hazel Short - Bath)

Great time, Cottage very well equipped and cosy. Pizza place in alley off Broad Street is lovely. Lovely being by the seaside. (30th Mar 07 – 6th April 07 Linn, Riley Barrett - Ringwood)

A Previous year quote: 'We have visited Lyme every year for 30 years and without doubt, Appletrees is the best equipped and most charming holiday house we have used.

Lovely holiday in cosy, well-equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely cottage, which is situated in a tucked-away location just off the sea-front. The cottage is thoughtfully appointed, and the kitchen has lots of little extras which make it feel like a home-from-home rather than a holiday let. There is a pretty courtyard garden at the back, which is nice to sit in or have a barbecue in.

Lyme Regis is full of pretty side streets, courtyards and interesting shops and galleries to visit, and a good selection of cafes and restaurants. There is a nice shop just around the corner from the cottage with beautifully made silver jewellery, where I couldn't resist buying a ring.

It is worth mentioning that the someone unsure of their footing might find the stairs a little tricky, and also that it is necessary to park the car in a car park nearby (permit provided, so no cost). However if that is not a problem then you will not regret booking this cottage for a holiday or short break. We had a wonderful time!

Long weekend with the family

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous place to wile away a few days... Warm, comfortable and full of character.

A party of 6 adults and we brought along our 2 year old and 4 year old nieces and a little dog - suffice to say we were all very comfortable and the property lent itself beautifully to nanny and grandad having their own space in the annexe!

2 minute walk to the beach and shops, we couldn't believe how fabulous the location would be!

AMAZING breakfast served up at the bakery a 30 second walk away, and endless beach for the girls to play on safely while the grown ups put the world to rights in one of the many beach side pubs and cafes.

I cannot recommend this little gem highly enough, we were very warmly greeted by Charles who ensured we knew where everything was and that we had everything we could possibly need. We are already thinking about when we can come back !!! Thank you Charles, from Madeleine and the rest of the Hills

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Appletrees is in the perfect location with access to restaurants, shopping and the beach. Having stayed there for two years, we have already rebooked for 2012!

The property is in good condition and also now offers Wi-Fi for those all important work emails :-( !!!!

The garden terrace is the perfect location for the evening barbeques and although close to the town, it is very quite.

Two showers, a bath, washing machine and dryer all help make it a great place to stay, highly recommended.

Delightful, cosy cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is delightful and accurately described. Although it was a busy Easter weekend we had no problem unloading 3 cars and parking nearby. We enjoyed sitting in the sheltered garden and were comfortable in the cosy sttiing room. There is lots to do in the area and it was lovely to walk to the beach, local shops and restaurants. Communication with the owners was excellent and we appreciated the wine, milk and delicious brownies on our arrival.

Breath of fresh air in Lyme!

  • 5 of 5

Another wonderful week in cosy roomy cottage in Lyme, just 3 minutes from the sea. Cottage clean and well equipped. Love the bathroom!

we were pleased with out welcome pack of brownies, milk and bottle of wine, lovely gesture.

Lots of local eateries, lovely deli up the hill, good range of friendly shops. Lovely bookshop.

We always start the day with a walk along the Cobb, pick up the papers and have leisurely breakfast . we visited and strolled around Honiton, Sidmouth, Bridport, and West Bay.

And then back to our lovely cottage, comfortable beds awaiting!

Parking not right outside the cottage but easy access to car parks locally, and we are provided with free pass to put in car, so no car par tickets to buy, a welcome bonus!

Very recommendable!

Location

From the Owner

My father bought Appletrees as a family holiday home back in the 1950's. As my boarding school was in Taunton it was useful as a holiday get-away. Now with our family grown up we are bringing our own grandchildren down to Appletrees.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Exeter at 30 Miles Nearest Barpub : The Ship Inn at 150 Metres Nearest Ferry : Portsmouth at 100 Miles Nearest Golf : Lyme Regis Golf Club at 2 Miles Nearest Train : Axminster at 7 Miles Nearest Motorway : M5 J25 at 29 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Italia at 70 Metres Nearest Beach : at 500 Metres Car: recommended

Lyme Regis is the perfect place for a family holiday and Appletrees has been equipped particularly with families in mind. When our children were small, the short level walk to the beach was a huge advantage with its glorious bay of golden sand which curves around and joins the celebrated Cobb and its tiny harbour.Within easy reach of Lyme Regis lie many places of interest. For walkers, try any of the cliff top walks for spectacular coastal views, or travel west to the river Otter or east to fascinating Chesil beach, Abbotsbury Swannery or Portland. For children, try Cricket St. Thomas, Seaton Percorama or Farway Country park. Or, close to home the Seaton to Colyton tramway. The town offers a good golf course, many excellent restaurants and old fashioned pubs and the whole area abounds in traditional tea shops and antique shops. Further afield lie Exeter with its beautiful Cathedral, Dorchester with its iron-age hill fort and Corfe with its extraordinary ruined castle.

Golf: Lyme Regis Golf Club recognised as one of the finest golf courses in the south west.

The course occupies a cliff top site with coastal views towards Portland Bill and overlooks the historic town and world heritage site of Lyme Regis.
