Stylish Georgian Townhouse Apartment Close To Ramsgate Royal Harbour

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Nov-2016
One Bedroom Apartment Overlooking Central Gardens, Moments From The Harbour

This stylish apartment forms part of an imposing recently restored Georgian town house, built in 1792. Originally the servant's quarters with its own separate entrance, it is near the seafront and just 100 metres from the harbour with a small outside courtyard area which sits discreetly below the well kept gardens of Albion Place opposite.

The accommodation offers a spacious lounge/dining area, well equipped newly fitted kitchen, a unique fully tiled bathroom which has been built into the house's cellarage and a comfortable double bedroom positioned at the rear of the property with a king-size bed which can be split into twin beds. Beds are made up with good quality cotton linen, bath and hand towels are included and the apartment has been comfortably furnished with a mix of the owner's antique furniture, artwork and artefacts, so feels very homely. Also provided is flat screen Free view TV with DVD player, small Hi-Fi with i-Pod dock, Coffee Machine, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Microwave and Wi-fi internet access. We have now added a log burner stove for those long winter evenings!

This is definitely the best place to stay in Ramsgate. If you don't stay you will regret it.

Wonderful facilities, amazing location, everything is on your doorstep. Kiel and Stuart were amazing, we had a family member seriously ill and couldn't arrive on our set date so Kiel Atuart offered us an extra night for free.

The bed is so comfortable that you will have to force yourself to get out of it! The bathroom is very modern but if you're taller than 5'5" be prepared to bend your knees in the shower😜.

Seriously though, it is an absolutely great place to stay. We loved it!

georgian townhouse

  • 5 of 5

The appartment is very nice decorated, it feels very comfortable and has a relaxing atmosphere to it.

Everything you could possible need is availeble and i must say , the beds are excellent ! You can see that the owners have a great eye for attention , and

make sure you have a nice stay in the appartment.

We stayed during one of the warmest weeks of July, and the fact that its so close to the beach is a great advantage.

You don't need a car to enjoy yourself. The restaurants and bars are only a few minutes away, but thats something you don't notice in the appartment.

We had a great stay and we will be back .

Tastefully decorated in a convenient location

  • 5 of 5

We booked for a week making Ramsgate our hub for exploring eastern Kent. The accommodation was clean, spacious and well equipped with a comfortable 6 ft wide bed, Wi-Fi speeds I can only dream off and a printer secreted in the bottom of the kitchen cupboard!

The ceiling height in the bathroom was a bit challenging for me at 6’2”, but I refrained from cracking my cranium.

Parking was easy and I always found a space. The property is well position for a 5 minute walk to Waitrose and the plethora of other shops – including a Michael’s Bookshop - a superb second hand book shop at the end of King’s Street.

The deposit was returned within a couple of days.

Highly recommended!

Excellent flat in basement of this lovely Georgian house with a small park opposite and rock garden

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 9 nights in this great area with a short walk to the harbour and buses, about 5 minutes away. The kitchen had lots of dishes, pots, pans and more. Everything is very new and clean and our host was helpful. We had fun going to the different villages by bus and train and learning more about Kent.

We would recommend this place to anyone.

Picture perfect apartment in a great area

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is wonderfully presented with everything you could want for your stay. It is very cosy and homey whilst also having a very large kitchen.

Kiel provided excellent information before arrival and was around to say hi when we arrived.

A beautiful park is immediately across the road and the beach just after that so the location couldn't be more perfect for a beach side stay in Ramsgate.

Location

From the Owner

The property caught our eye one day with a large hand-written 'For Sale' poster in the window placed by it's old and very reluctant vendor. This vast Georgian townhouse overlooking the fantastic Ramsgate coastline seemed like the perfect home - our only challenge was to convince the owner to sell it to us, neighbours tell us that many had tried! We both love Georgian architecture - this admiration began during our time in London with some of the East End houses there, especially the Huguenot houses of Spitalfields.

Ramsgate on the Isle of Thanet is a destination in every sense of the word. Away from the bustle of the city, it’s location is almost as far south east as you can drive in the UK and it’s so close to France that on a clear day, you can see the northern French coastline. The journey to this Georgian harbour town is well worth it. Ramsgate is one of three large towns making up the district of Thanet (including Broadstairs and Margate) and sits in the middle of fifteen sandy beaches and bays that stretch from Pegwell Bay in the South to Minnis Bay in the North, beaches that have recently been awarded no fewer than 8 ‘Blue Flags’ - that's more than any other area in the country. So it’s easy to see why Ramsgate is fast becoming the place to escape to.

The area has plenty of activities, culture and shopping . You could go surfing at Joss Bay (there’s a surf school there for novices), or you could try your hand at some Windsurfing in Minnis Bay (there’s a school there too). Kite-surfing is becoming very popular, or for the more adventurous there’s a diving school in Margate. Ramsgate has the UK’s only royal harbour (just two minutes from your accommodation) which is lined by bars and cafes where you can sit al-fresco and watch the yachts roll in and out. You can also take a seal-watching boat trip from the harbour side.

One of the best ways to get around the coast is by bike. The Viking Coastal Trail is a 27-mile long seaside trail divided into 6 themed routes. There’s a plethora of golf courses really close by, two of which have held the Open Championship (so they’re pretty good). The nearest one is at North Forelands.

Ramsgate also has a brand new 25m swimming pool with Spa and Fitness Studio.

Shopping: Margate's Old Town is great for Vintage and retro, (clothes, homewares, furniture etc.)

Westwood Cross - 15 minutes from Ramsgate - has all of the big chains for those essentials. Ramsgate has a small local street market every Friday and Saturday.

Further afield, Canterbury city centre (30 minutes by car) offers a further good selection of shops and boutiques.

London is 75 minutes by High-Speed train and the port of Dover is just 30 minutes drive away if you fancy a quick dash to France - you could be tucking into moules-frites by lunchtime!

Nearby Margate, one of the original seaside towns and famous for its 1950’s and 60’s youth culture has seen rapid regeneration over the past four years. The Turner Contemporary - a world class art gallery with frequently changing shows – is a must-see, the stark architecture of the gallery alone juxtaposed with the Georgian old town could compare to the Guggenheim in Bilbao! Visit the Shell Grotto in nearby Cliftonville - a curious, almost pagan place with 70 feet of tunnels and over four million shells set into the walls in beautiful mosaics. Dreamland is also being rebuilt into Europe’s only ‘heritage theme park’ that will host a carefully curated collection of fully restored antique rides.

Broadstairs is perhaps the more gentile relative sitting on Viking Bay, a beautiful bustling cove. The town hosts a variety of events throughout the year including a Food Festival and Folk Week. Morelli’s opened their first ice cream parlour here in 1932 and it still retains much of its interior today. Essential for frothy coffee and delicious ice cream and sundaes.

Facilities

From the Owner

The Grade II listed house is part of a terraced Georgian garden square with it's listed Victorian 'rocks' and waterfall. Due to it's elevated position, the views are quite incredible and you'll even get a level eye view of the sea from the apartment. Access to the town, it's shops, bars and restaurants and of course the seafront and harbour is fantastic.
