Perfect weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of female friends looking for a leisurely weekend away from it all. We ended up at The Stables somehow randomly, due to a last-minute cancellation of a reservation we held elsewhere. It turned out to be exactly what we wanted. The house itself is spacious, comfortable and clean, with well equipped kitchen, lovely outdoors sitting area in the backyard, and nice hot showers. It is also a perfect base for exploring. We went road running, walking in nature reserves, and also spent time in some of the local towns. Carnforth has great quirky shops and the rail station is well worth visiting; Silverdale has a beautiful coastline and some good walks too. We had a good dinner in a pub down the road and visited the English Heritage site of Warton Rectory which is about 2 min walk away. Overall, a lovely trip and zero problems with accommodation, all smooth and comfortable.

Excellent Value

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely restful week here and found the accommodation was more than we'd anticipated. The property was beautifully presented, very clean and tidy and had a delightful courtyard garden which we were able to enjoy on a couple of lovely warm sunny days during our stay. The lounge is quite dark but this is compensated for by the spacious conservatory during the day so not really a negative.

We cooked a variety of meals and were able to take full advantage of a well equipped kitchen - some kitchen scales and sharp cooking knives would have been useful but that is being picky.

The cottage is located in a very pleasant village and very convenient for lots of places and activities in the surrounding area. We visited Arnside and Silverdale, Windermere and Kendal even venturing as far as Sedburgh with ease.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

Well-equipped and comfortable. Very good communication with owner. Anne across the road invaluable. TWO real ale pubs within staggering distance and a brewery! Parking not easy but good out of school term time but we had been told this clearly before we went. Showers temperamental as regards temperature but no real problem. Slats on single beds kept popping out (and it wasn't that the people in them were particularly large!) and could do with some form of strengthening (it's a common problem with this sort of bed). All in all, an excellent property and we really enjoyed our stay there...if only the weather had been better...but we did win the pub quiz!

Ideally located to enjoy the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales (and the Three Peaks), wildlife at Leighton Moss (featured in Autumn Watch) and the beautiful Morecambe Bay.

The property is set within a rural location in the village of Warton, with its connections to the George Washington family, two Public Houses, both serving real ale and home made food, and a Post Office.

There are a multitude of walks in the area including the Warton Crag, from your door, offering the most beautiful views over Morecambe Bay.

If you enjoy water sports there is water skiing, sailing, kayaking and Banana boating at Pine Lake Resort, a mere mile away.

Visit the historic County Town of Lancaster, famous for its castle and witches.

Leighton Moss, featured on the BBC programme Autumn Watch, a mere mile away, is a paradise for bird watchers.

Bring your bikes, or hire them locally, as with over 70km of traffic free cycle paths, Lancaster and Morecambe are some of the best places in the country to cycle.
