About Anna

We have lived in Barjac since 2000, our four children were born in France and go to the local schools. We renovated our own house first and have finally finished renovating this property which is next door to our own.

Anna purchased this house in 2005

What makes this house unique

Barjac is a beautiful little village with lots going on. We are able to walk to the shops and have all necessary amenities right on our doorstep. Seasonal fruit and vegetables are sold on the local market or from roadside vendors - cherries, apricots, peaches, melons... We're surrounded by hazy lavender fields and smiling sunflowers interspersed with vines and olives. We live in a region with a lovely climate and delicious food.

In the summer the old limestone houses keep cool in the summer due to their thick walls, if you close the old shutters you can take a nap in the afternoon. It's a joy to be able to eat outside on the terrace for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Holiday in Barjac

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic time in Maison Brown and the village. House was very comfortable and tastefully equipped. Location was perfect for either spending time in the village or traveling further afield. Owners very welcoming and we would certainly recommend it to friends and hopefully will revisit in the future.

Beautifully restored and well equipped. Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully restored and thoughtfully appointed house, where you could even park at the front door! The charming owners, who live next door couldn't be more helpful, and speak both French and English. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone wanting to relax in a very attractive French village. We didn't want to leave!!!

Lovingly restored town house within short walking distance of the center of beautiful Barjac

  • 5 of 5

We, a family of five with kids aged 8, 6 and 4, tremendously enjoyed our one-week stay in August 2017. The beautiful house has been lovingly restored with all necessary amenities and lots of attention paid to detail. 3 bedrooms with each having their own fully equiped bathroom, a nice living room with lots of interesting books about the area and many games for children and adults, a large and well-equiped kitchen as well as a large terrace to the quiet back of the house as well as one to the front made for an exciting time at this wonderful house. Anna and her family are the most charming hosts with lots of ideas off the beaten track for visits to the beautiful surroundings in Ardèche. Caves, rivers and beautiful villages are all within close distance. We highly recommend this house and the hosts.

Séjour très agréable dans cette maison en pierre située dans le village typique de Barjac. Bien située entre l'Ardèche et la ceze. Les chambres sont spacieuses et équipées chacune d'une salle d'eau. Très bon accueil de la propriétaire.

Our property is located in the picturesque medieval village of Barjac. Situated in the very north of the Gard department between the Cèze and Ardèche rivers. Surrounded by fields of smiling sunflowers, hazy lavender fields and olive groves.

All amenities are within a few minutes walk and there is a market every Friday morning selling local produce.

The Brocante, an international Antique Fair, is held here twice a year at Easter and mid-August.

This area is famous for the Ardéche Gorge where you can swim, canoe, kayak, rock climb and cycle. The newly opened centre for the Grotte de Chauvet caves containing some of the earliest known paintings is approximately 15km away. The spectacular Aven d'Orgnac caves are 10 minutes drive away as well as the new Grotte de la Salamandre caves near Méjannes Le Clap.

Indy Park, a tree climbing adventure park is just five minutes drive.

Barjac is a great base to go on day trips to visit the Arenas of Nimes and Arles and the Popes' Palace in Avignon.

In the summer there is plenty of river swimming either in the Cèze or the Ardèche. There is a lovely big public outdoor swimming pool in Méjannes Le Clap which is 18 km away.

Visit the silk worm museum at the Chateau des Roure, 8 km away and learn about the production of lavender oil at St. Remèze.
