4 star newly refurbished 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom house with super sea views
Sitting next door to Portpatrick's Dunskey Golf Course and affording beautiful sea views over the Irish sea to Northern Ireland, 4 Star Cedar Lodge, has four bedrooms, all with en suites, and sleeps 8 people.
Done out in a New England clapper board style externally, inside, the lodge has the same stylish interiors as our existing Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages.
As with all our Dumfries and Galloway holiday cottages, Cedar Lodge has been completely refurbished from top to toe. Inside, our Portpatrick holiday house has a large open plan kitchen, sitting and dining room with a wall of French doors, which open onto a raised deck and which offer amazing sea views.
In the sitting room area, there's a corner sofa, three armchairs around the electric wood burner style fire and a 40" flat screen television.
The kitchen is well equipped with a double oven, dishwasher, gas hob, fridge-freezer and washing machine - all appliances are Neff. It has a good range of glasses, cutlery, Port Meirion plates, pots and pans, oven to tableware, knives, utensils etc.
There's an antique restored pine dining table in the dining area, which seats 8 comfortably.
Holidays are about sleep and rest and this luxury Portpatrick holiday house has four bedrooms, three of which can either be super king size doubles or twins - depending on your requirements and all have en suite shower rooms. The fourth bedroom has a adult-sized bunk bed and an en suite bathroom.
As with all our cottages the beds have thick feather filled duvets and pillows, crisp white linen and fluffy bath sheets and hand towels for each guest.
Colours are soothing and the holiday house is furnished with an eclectic mix of modern funky style and traditional furniture.
Outside it has a flood lit raised deck with a picnic table, parasol and wooden garden seat - it's a great place to enjoy a drink and take in the view.
Cedar Lodge has a enclosed garden with mature shrubs and car parking space for 2-3 cars.

About Kate Carrick-Buchanan
We have currently have five holiday cottages - three on our country estate - Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages on Loch Ryan near Stranraer, Cedar Lodge in Portpatrick, our newest one, and a luxury two bedroom apartment in Edinburgh. We've enjoyed welcoming guests to our properties since 2006.
Kate Carrick-Buchanan purchased this house in 2010
Why Kate Carrick-Buchanan chose Dumfries & Galloway
Portpatrick is a charming fishing village, which has been a popular resort for many years. As well the holiday cottages on Corsewall Estate we wanted to offer guests something slightly less rural but still with all the benefits that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer - from golf, beautiful beaches, tranquility to the great outdoors and lots of things to do with the kids. Cedar Lodge fitted the bill!
What makes this house unique
Recently refurbished from top to toe, 4 Star Cedar Lodge is right next to a wonderful 18 hole Portpatrick Dunskey golf course, it has wonderful sea views and is within a short walking distance of a lovely sandy beach, restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs.

A Great Find
Had a lovely, pleasant stay in Cedar Lodge. The property had loads of space for everyone and you did not have to fight for a bathroom as each room had it's own. The cottage was so cosy with the heating cranked up which was a bonus as the weather was not on our side. The beds and linen were very comfortable too. Overall everyone in our family enjoyed their stay here.
Fantastic holiday home
This sumptious beautifully maintained property is the perfect bolthole for discovering this lovely part of Scotland. Cedar Lodge sits near the 1st tee of Dunskey Golf Course a perfect situation for views over the sea and spotting the lights of N Ireland. The Lodge, itself, has 4 charming bedrooms tastefully furnished all with ensuite facilities. The open plan kitchen/diningroom/lounge is a delight with every need catered for from wonderful "smart" T.V. to a kitchen stocked with every conceivable gadget and more besides! The lounge looks out through magnificent glass wall with sliding doors to decking area, where breakfast can be enjoyed on furniture provided. Sun streaming onto and into the internal area negates the need for central heating, altho this is available if required.Do not hesitate to book this lovely Lodge you will not regret it. It should be noted that Angus and Kate call to give local info but primarily to confirm their guests' satisfaction. Their No 1 consideration is the comfort of their guests, a personal service which is an indication of their commitment to first class service.
Great Lodge with all the comforts of home - everything looked brand new & the little touches like home made cookies and fresh flowers & the rest of the welcome pack gave it that little extra touch. The description was spot-on and the location is ideal for golfers, walkers & anyone wanting to explore this area. Kate welcomed us and Angus popped round the day before we left & were always quick to reply to emails & texts so can't fault the customer care. We played several golf courses & would recommend them all, Wigtownshire, Stranraer and of course Portpatrick literally walking distance so no problem for a couple of drinks afterwards. Plenty of choice in the area for eating out although our recommendation would be the evening weekend menu at the Golf Club - be warned book early as its very popular. Four friends shared the lodge so plenty of space - could easily accommodate 6 adults & 2 kids tho I think 8 adults may be a bit of a push. If we were to return to the area we would definitely stay here and would happily recommend this to anyone.
We had an amazing weeks holiday in this outstanding Lodge. It has great views over the Irish Sea from the decking area at the front. The Lodge is very well equipped, with quality items, also immaculately clean. Portpatrick has nice pubs/hotels for meals, coffee shop etc. Great place for walking which we enjoyed. Will definitely recommend to my friends and family to visit. Thanks Kate for the cookies etc for our arrival. A pleasure to meet you. Hope to be back soon.
Location, accommodation, aesthetics and comfort all spot on. Whit more could a' body ask for.

Activity and Interests
Portpatrick is a charming and pretty small fishing port, with a lovely sandy beach and harbour as the focal point of the village. There is a good number of restaurants, cafes pubs along the waterfront including Campbells - one of our favourite restaurants, the Crown, which has a good reputation for good pub grub, the Waterfront and the Port Pantry - which does excellent lunches, tea, coffee and irresistable cakes. There's a well stocked village shop and post office in addition to a bakers and a number of gift shops.
Cedar Lodge is right next door to the Portpatrick Dunskey golf course so it's ideally located if you are playing a round or two of golf in south west Scotland. The Club has two courses - the Dunskey, which is an 18 hole, 5913 yard Par 70 course and provides a good challenge for golfers of different standards while the Dinvin, a 9 hole, Par 3 course well suited to families. If you do take your eye of the ball, both courses have the most amazing views across to the Isle of Man, the Mountains of Mourne in Ireland and the Mull of Kintyre. Visitors are made very welcome.
There are other good courses nearby - Stranraer Golf Club, Wigtownshire Golf Course and St Medan Golf Course near Port William - which made the headlines in 2014 as the most southerly golf club when the Ryder Cup played a flying visit as part of its 'Four Corners of Scotland' tour before the event teed off at Gleneagles. To round off a golf trip to the south west in style, the championship course at Turnberry is only an hour's drive up the coast.
There are lots of walks right on your doorstep - a pretty walk across the golf course takes you into the Dunskey Estate, which has pretty woodland walks and beautifully restored walled garden to visit. There's a hedge maze designed to fox children and grown ups of all ages. Stop at the tea room after a walk round the lovely gardens - you can sit outside sheltered by the charming walled garden - it's a real sun trap.
Portpatrick sits at the gateway to the Southern Upland Way. From Cedar Lodge you can join the route on the cliffs above the harbour and walk along the coast enjoying beautiful views over the North Channel to Ireland and passing tempting sandy beaches including Laird's Bay and Killantringan. The first leg is just over 13 miles and takes you inland to Castle Kennedy. After having completed that, there are nine sections to complete the challenge to reach Cockburnspath on the east coast.
Of course, you don't have to complete the full 13 or so miles and one lovely circular walk, which you can do with children, is to go as far as Killantringan Lighthouse and then walk back along the quiet road (B738) into Portpatrick.
The Portpatrick area really is spoilt for sandy beaches. There's the beach at the harbour - which is perfect for small children armed with buckets and spades. There are also lots of rocks tucked away at the far end of the beach, which have fascinating rockpools and are ideal for budding climbers. If you want to take a picnic and explore just outside Portpatrick, a short walk along the cliffs will bring you to Laird's Bay also known as Sandeel Bay. It's a wonderfully sheltered cove with a large sandy beach, waterfall and cave.
Killantringan Bay is a short drive outside Portpatrick. Overlooked by a Robert Stevenson lighthouse it is accessed down a grassy hill and few rocks to climb over - which puts off the masses. Make sure you work out when low tide is as if you hit the right spot you have a massive expanse of sand to enjoy, plus a cave and a little stream - ideal for children who love to create dams.
Slightly further afield at Sandhead, there is another huge sandy bay. As with all beaches in Wigtownshire you'll only find a handful of other families there too - so you'll almost have the beach to yourself. The best thing about Sandhead is when the tide comes in, the sand warms up the sea, so swimming is a distinct possibility, even for wimps!
Using Cedar Lodge as a base, there are so many things to do and see in Dumfries & Galloway - mountain biking at one of the 7Stanes mountain biking centres; walking in the Galloway Forest Park; visiting the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm and the Cream O Galloway ice cream visitor centre near Gatehouse of Fleet or the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown. National Trust of Scotland property Culzean Castle and Country Park is just over an hour's drive up the scenic Ayrshire Coast - which is a great attraction to visit as there is so much to see and do.
There are a number of pretty gardens to visit - from the Logan Botanical Gardens and Ardwell to Dunskey and Glenwhan to Castle Kennedy where you will see exotic plants in abundance and riots of colour.
The Mull of Galloway, with a working lighthouse, which you can visit and climb right to the top of the light tower, is a must see. It is Scotland's most southerly point and on clear days you can see England, Ireland and the Isle of Man
- We also provide rental rates for smaller groups of people in low/mid season - do drop me an email if this is of interest.
- Dogs are very welcome at Cedar Lodge provided you let us know in advance. We charge £20 per dog per week.
